I live in the heartland where folks savor the season of autumn like nobody’s business! Seriously. The passion for all things gourd-sy gorgeous, changing colors, football tailgating, raking leaves, spicy, cozy and FALL wonder is HUGE in the Midwest. Fall Vintage Farmhouse Styling Inspiration + 10 Rustic Decorating Ideas From the Midwest kicks off what I call #cozyhuntingseason.
Speaking of COZY…did you see my tour of Storybook Cottage, where we stayed in Leiper’s Fork on our road trip to the South?
I’ll be heading to Main Street Market for fall magic this weekend, and if you missed highlights of farmhouse shopping in Franklin, Tennessee, come see!
Fall Vintage Farmhouse Styling Inspiration + 10 Rustic Decorating Ideas From the Midwest!
People who endure the long winters, grey days, and extreme temperatures in the middle part of the USA develop a certain toughness and conservatism. But there’s a paradox too.
These same souls are soft and gooey and romantic when it comes to the warm embrace of an apple picking, prolific pumpkin season with its deliciously mild weather and scenic majesty.
Did someone say pumpkins?

Fall Vintage Markets are Wildly Popular in the Midwest
In terms of fleamarket shoppers and lovers of vintage like me, the fall becomes this paradise with markets popping up everywhere, and vendors styling their booths so evocatively we just want to linger and touch the textures of fall that take us back to childhood or the farm.
So I’m taking you shopping with me to a few friendly shops overflowing with lovely fall decor inspiration.
Even if you have no plans to visit the Midwest, you may just: score a decorating idea or three, notice a unique color combination, or be compelled to shop eBay this very moment (ha! that’s me!) for shabby treasure to feather your own fall nest.
Nostalgia & Farmhouse Go Hand in Hand
I wasn’t planning on stopping at Pick-a-Dilly Antiques in Rockton, Illinois, but this clothesline!!! I mean!
Then I learned the back story of these white petticoats and nightshirts from the “picker” who styled the window, and some of them insisted on coming home with me…ha!
Can you blame me? They go back to the 1800s and are my favorite color to boot! Unfortunately, they don’t work well after Labor Day in these parts, but I have suggestions for fall fashion here!
This shop is full of sweetly humble treasures, and the service was so friendly and warm that I lingered and found more pretty things.
You don’t have to drive far past Rockton to arrive in Wisconsin which is where I headed next.
Vintage Bliss in Beloit, WI
Vintage Bliss Decor (3100 S. Riverside Dr. Beloit, WI) is the sweetest community of sellers with found, rescued, and reloved treasures you never knew you couldn’t live without. I have never left this place empty-handed.
Enjoy these vignettes and also score rustic farmhouse decorating ideas as we chat along the way about trends, color stories, and what makes the rustic farmhouse mix so charming.
1. Neutral Colors Everywhere
Here’s the color story I saw again and again: warm brass, fresh greenery, black, and light toned wood.
2. Black and White is Still Classic
3. Understated Painted Accents
4. Nubby Stripey Pillows (Trove Vintage)
5. Vintage Galvanized Watering Cans
6. Architectural Salvage + Antlers
7. Mass Those Brass Candlesticks!
…or stair parts!

Fairy on the Prairie Behind the Blog
Part Two with more inspiration from this rustic fall farmhouse shopping excursion is HERE, and soon I’ll update you on my health as well.
Still a rollercoaster ride, but that joy I expressed in this soulful ditty, is STILL HERE and I’m still here, and the “holy indifference” I am experiencing is such a gift to my spirit even as Grace covers all the uncertainties like wildflowers on the fall prairie.
I don’t know what battles may be raging for you, but I want you to know I’m right here muddling through with you. And we’re growing, friends, even if we’re not yet glowing.
I penned the quote below yesterday, and if you think it’s worth sharing, I’d love to see it pinned.
Thank you for the prayers and kindnesses…you really know how to make a fairy FALL for the magic of MERCY in all its disguises and loveliness.

Hahaha – it’s hard to beat September in Northern Illinois with the inspiring evolving landscape, wildflowers, orchards, and color. If only I could sleep through the storms! Bon weekend, friend! 🙂
Such delightful fall fun goodness here in this post! Enjoyed each morsel! Glad I had extra time to watch the videos. Loved your festive Fall Bucket List & your cool vintage scores: the metal bird cage, some sort of interesting basket, and that other thing! haha! So curious what it is? Flea Market Flip was entertaining, and can’t wait to try those delicious-sounding, healthy pumpkin recipes from two blogs I’m so glad to find out about…Clean and Delicious with Dani & Mind Over Munch with Alyssia! Thanks for sharing all the lovely that you find with us!! I’m so touched and inspired by Anne Frank’s quote, & last but surely not least…my fav quote from you…”It was me. I let the dogs out.” hahahaha!! It makes me laugh out loud every time I read it! So thanks for a post packed with punch!!

Hahahaha – so happy there were some winners in here for you! I cannot even believe you are asking about that crazy mystery item I bought from an estate sale in that image because omg, there is a story there, and I’ll take more pics of it and share it with everyone…stay tuned. (Um, no idea what it is, just knew I had to own it.) I feel so awful about letting the dogs out. 🙂 LOL

The hubs and I go small town shopping quite frequently. I am jotting these stores down just in case we are ever up your way. I loved each and every photo and found something I wanted in each one too. Which is a bad thing when you have two kids in college. Saw this on TFT. Loved it!
