While a coastal home may remain a daydream, that won’t stop me from scheming and dreaming to create a coastal cottage bedroom retreat! If your daily life remains somewhat socially distant, now may be the ideal time to give your bedroom extra thought. Because no matter what its size or architecture, a more soothing retreat is within reach. Hope you enjoy these Coastal Cottage Bedroom Décor Ideas and glimpses of beautiful design!
This week I have been finding moments to paint trim in a small spare bedroom which we intend to makeover into a dressing room/closet/home office. There is nothing pretty to reveal yet as the work is slow going and the room overflowing with boxes.
Still curious? Fine.
With a paintbrush dripping with white paint in hand, my mind is free to imagine how the space COULD feel. These days, as I share interior design inspiration and revisit particular posts, I am seeing the designs and home tours with fresh eyes.
Let’s consider how we might lighten the mood and increase calm in a tranquil bedroom, shall we?
Inspiration for a Coastal Cottage Bedroom
A Tranquil Seaworthy Wall Color
Light blue walls can be a challenge for a grown up room. That is why it is so helpful when designers and bloggers share their successful projects!
Do you have a board on Pinterest reserved for PAINT COLORS? Create one!
Reclaimed Wood on a Statement Wall
What a huge statement a Hamptons Stikwood accent wall made in our former cottage. The white painted reclaimed rustic pine was just enough calm contrast with our furniture washed with BM Revere Pewter.
Will a rustic wood wall look appropriate in our new bedroom? Time will tell!
Spare, Scrubbed & European Inspired
I like everything Desiree Ashworth of Beljar Home likes! Whether your home is actually on a coast or not, you can evoke feelings of seaside breezy moments when you mix vintage with a light hand.
Don’t you want to run your hand across the wood poster bed?
California Cozy Modern
I highly recommend books by Jenni Kayne if you love a laid back, cozy Pacific mood!
The texture on that bed though!
Cheerful Color for Coastal Kids Room
You can create a nostalgic coastal kinda mood simply by mindfully combining colors for the bedroom. This design (in a showhouse) pulls at my heartstrings.
Isn’t the green fabulous? And don’t you love the idea of a desk between the twin beds as opposed to separate little tables?
A Small Bedroom is Rustic Yet Soft
Many of us would not be confident enough to mix so many elements in a such a small space. But just look at the possibilities when a proper balance is artfully maintained…
Tone on Tone English Coastal Cottage
In this architecturally splendid space, horizontal lines play a starring role with white!
Those wide and white planked floors are making me want to rip up the carpet in all my bedrooms at the new place!!! Do not share this confession with my husband!
Add Charm With Wallpaper
Is this Feather Wallpaper calling your name?
Calm & Natural Color Palette
It remains a favorite bedroom and is just so luxuriously liveable.
Even Brooke and Steve’s tattered old chair looks inviting! Here are a few more peeks from inside my copy of their book:

Timelessness of Blue & White Stripes
So many bedside benches look uncomfortable, fussy, formal, and out of place. What a coup when the bench is this sumptuous and inviting:
Tranquil Nature Inspired Backdrop to Set a Tone
Isn’t this Bloomsbury wallcovering (in Sky) inspiring?
Invest in a Timeless Quilt
I don’t ever tire of pickstitch quilts!
Need a paint color idea to emulate the door above?
Here’s an idea:
Cozy Up a Corner With a Reading Chair
Think Beyond White for Trim
While the trim below in this timeless bedroom is a custom mixed grey-green-blue with a sophisticated Gustavian feel, let it inspire you to explore chalky blue-greens and aquatic inspired hues.
I’m also beyond charmed by those relaxed Roman shades!
Bring Nature Inside
Simple branches from the yard and sprigs snipped from the landscape seem to instantly quiet and sweeten the mood inside.
Psst. While the amazing poster bed chosen for the designer’s cottage bedroom above is discontinued (Universal Furniture Moderne Muse Maison), I am always on the hunt for something similar!

Bedroom Décor Ideas From My Bedroom
My own bedroom never fails to deliver comfort…chronic illness (Crohn’s disease and beyond) means I often retreat for rest and rejuvenation. If you find yourself especially stressed during this season of pandemic weariness, do visit this story.
There are plenty of nods to airy coastal design in my own bedroom with its marshmallow-y soft colors and soothing white, light grey and pale pink accents.
I brought in a mix of metals, white oak solid hardwood, and just-right-for-a woodsy-cottage planked alder doors. Here’s a before of elements in our bedroom before we renovated:
Rustic Wood Interior Doors
Door Hardware
Reclaimed Planked Wood Wall
Pale Color Palette
Accent Chair
The RH Belgian linen slipcovered chair in our bedroom was a desk chair in a former home. We tend to think a chunky, overstuffed club chair or chaise is what is needed in the bedroom, but sometimes a smaller scale chair will do the trick.
Simple White Coastal Cottage Inspo
Light Blue Bedding
Traditional Swing Arm Sconces
Coastal White Bedside Tables
A Swing!
What a dream to have an adjoining patio or porch off the bedroom!
I guess we don’t need a porch to swing…how about a swing in lieu of a bedroom chair?

Airy Parsons Style Side Tables

Blue & White Quilt
Obviously, this dreamy hall tree would work beautifully in a mud room too and could be built-in for a more custom look.

Oh boy do I ever remember that song….. Haven’t thought about it in years, but I can still sing the WHOLE thing! Did you mean to say that you were NOT hospitalized? Or were you? In any event I’m lifting you up today and asking for God’s healing hand to touch you right now, right where you are.

AND MY NIGHT WAS TURNED TO DAY…hahaha, I too remember the words, and what a gift when they come rushing back when the heart gets stirred. Never gets old. Thank you, Marilyn – Yes, should have read NOT hospitalized! I have never coped very well for hospital stays so I don’t go near ’em unless it is critical. (You may be surprised to learn what procedures I have had as an outpatient without general anesthesia…I’m tough and very drug sensitive!)

Where is the chandelier from, in the first photo? Thank you.

Thanks so much for visiting and the kind words. Are you referring to the beaded chandelier we just put in the closet/office with all the boxes on the floor? It’s an inexpensive antiqued silver 3-light one here: https://rstyle.me/+uTRcXxp0zVU8doITw3jxdQ. It has a companion ceiling light we also installed in that room here: https://rstyle.me/+kbpO_0WINyzf-N5yNilMww Hope this helps.
Hello,
Where did you get the lovely rattan wall scones in the blue and white twin bedroom? Love them!
