Fashion Over 50: Feel Good Comfy Finds is a look at spring and summery finds, boosts, and pieces that are easy to layer and not too trendy. Who has time, room at home, or patience for things that won’t be relevant next year? And if this “fluff” post falls flat during this holy season, maybe pair this ensemble with the more substantive soulful ideas spun HERE. Today’s OVER 50ish ditty also spotlights a few small Etsy businesses I admire. So in one fell swoop, we can consider comfy warm weather pieces, pin quotes that resonate, and support small enterprises struggling to stay afloat in a competitive arena!

Fashion Over 50: Feel Good Comfy Casual Finds

If you happen to be in the mood for less fashion and more practical lifestyle everyday ideas – see this piece where I muse about living with chronic illness in life hacks for daily coping. (I had no idea when I penned it how it would be relevant in fresh ways to pandemic life.)
Is this lovely and smartly priced dress above my favorite of the whole caboodle featured here? Ooh la la!

Find a wealth of Brene Brown quotes right here too!
Luxurious, Organic, and Glowy
The packaging for these cheek/lip color “bullets” (below) will blow your mind – heavy, luxurious and a delight to see on the vanity.
Here is a trio in my bathroom, and yes, the packaging of these heavy magnetic close bullets is THAT lovely.
Just seeing my linen robe hanging on a hook waiting for me to get comfy is a blessing! Wrap yourself up in bed, after a bath, or all day as you recover and renew.
Easy Cake Baking Hack
Oh, and even though I don’t have an oven yet so I can’t bake this Easter, THIS would be a feel-good find if I did.

The method is straight forward: divide your batter three ways, tint, and proceed! Who cares if the layers aren’t perfectly equal or the cake ends up wobbly?
Yum.

These energy snacks (below) are a feel good lovely find for me because (1) the energy they provide comes from green tea (2) every flavor I have tried is utterly delicious and (3) they’re low in fat.
What is Renewing Your Energy These Days?
I welcome all of your over 50 wisdom, creative ideas, and experiential advice because oy! I wake up at 5 a.m. no matter when I go to sleep. And this is tricky since there is so much work to be done, and I may be up past 11. A consistent sleep pattern is so important yet challenging at times to establish.

Timeless & Just Dang Wearable
Never met a shift dress or tunic I didn’t like. My mama got me loving shifts back in the 60s as a child, and since we were poor, those knee grazing shifts became mini dresses as I grew taller (hahahaha – it’s all true!).
Do you need to hear this?

Because there are messages everywhere telling you otherwise. It’s amazing how a single setback can set our insecurities aflame. How easily a sense of unworthiness and shame can grow when we fail, stumble, or are betrayed.
Know what can turn things around rather quickly?

Talking about it with someone trustworthy. For some reason, just bringing those insecurities into the light can purify and refine the unlovely.
When I shared this with my audience on FB, it really made an impression:

So much lip service is paid to embracing imperfection and living vulnerably, but the reason it is so very hard is because of how it is received by others. We want our fellow human beings whole and polished up and strong.
And the reality is – we are all weary travelers on a journey toward wholeness – all of us require a hand because the road is not smooth.
Some of us may look less polished up on the outside if only because of invisible battles we fight every single day.
This is why grace, as it flows freely from unseen realms is so amazing and critical to our fleshy flawed humanity.

Pull-On Skirts are My Spring & Summer Wild Card
I don’t wait for a special occasion or lunch date (ummm, my friends are too busy or too newly introverted to have these anymore) to wear a skirt.
The prairie style ones I started wearing in the 80s are a favorite, and I pair them with casual tshirts and even sweatshirts. I don’t even care if the patterns of the top and bottom sort of clash…I think to myself ‘how very avant garde Frenchy of me.’
I’m not sure, but I think this is what it means to grow up.
There’s a freedom that comes when you decide to live courageously for YOU and not for judge-y sorts of spectators who thrive on discussing your choices more than embracing courage themselves.

Wear Colors That Make You Feel Alive
We should know this by now, yes? And yet we need reminders. I remember a couple of years back when I was venting to my youngest son about the loneliness of my job and living in a small town and sort of disappearing as my age climbs and beauty fades.
And his is an old hippie soul, and he said:
“Wear happy colors when you go out…you’ll meet new friends.”
As simple as that sounds, there is something to it.

Cheerful, happy colors draw attention and can lift the spirits of the wearer and of the observer. The thing is, when you get stuck in a rut of wearing neutrals, you tend to forget how you are blending in and maybe even missing out on the joy that color brings to your very own self.
It’s not about dressing for other people, but dressing to feel vibrant and cheerful and open…ya know?
There’s a dynamic that develops when you change it up, wake up the senses, and invite the new.
Perfect Linen Dress (With Pockets!) to Pair With a Denim Jacket
Not that there isn’t value in buying neutrals too!

Because I know how practical they are and how they can be worn for years and years!

We need staples that we won’t grow tired of…
Classically Timeless Denim Jacket
I love how a denim jacket can make slightly fancy pieces less fancy.
And how classic floral prints can lift the mood.

Comfy Cute Maxi Dress
Colorful or neutral, the secret for me is how comfy the piece is!
I just can’t do all those cropped boxy things or statement pieces that feel like a costume.

Wear it Alone or Open With a Tank
While the drape of this is slightly boxy, it seems comfy enough:
Need an everyday earring?
I’m loving the mixed metal effect.

Just in case you need to pick up some spring gift wrap for weddings, grads, and birthdays!
Lovely Giftwrap Finds
There’s something so enchanting about fresh bright pink with coral-y orange!
And if blue hydrangeas are wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

By the way, aint this the truth:

If you haven’t browsed Rifle Paper Co. in a spell, check them out. What I love about the brand’s site (beyond the amazing patterns and tasteful, cheerful finds) is how it isn’t overwhelmed with choices. Just enough means a calmer shopping experience.
Because Checkered Everything Is In Our Consciousness
How do these things happen where we begin seeing certain geometric patterns everywhere? No idea, but it isn’t like checks are going to go out of style.
Especially for the over50-ers who are noticing changes in short-term memory. While dementia and memory loss are not laughing matters, we have to develop a sense of comfort with the changes that come with the natural aging process. Sometimes, it helps to laugh at ourselves, even as we feel compassion for each other.

For Fans of Zella
I love the brand Zella and it’s one of the reasons I find myself turning to Nordstrom. I had never seen a hoodie dress before and see its value as a tunic hoodie over leggings for walks on breezy days.

Here’s a reminder I need every single dang day:

Pretty Lip Color
I do love me a lip stain. And not just for adding color, but for sealing in moisture because where I live, mercy, it is not tropical.
I’m so impressed with the way the makers of beauty products are formulating colors that look good on every complexion.

This Blush Color Though!
Oh the quiet pinks I can’t resist.
I’d wear it with a white tee and white sneakers!
Protect Those Peepers on Walks & Errands
Do you have a signature sunglasses style you stick to? I need new ones and am thinking about prescriptives. Warby Parker has my favorite styles HERE.
More ideas:

Don’t the times feel a lot like the 70s? Except I don’t remember the 70s being a season where people were overly concerned about being cool.

I am so happy to see all the flared jeans and platform sandals around town!
Something about the 70s even if it’s just the superficial, carefree skater vibe happening, makes me feel young and more carefree.

Cheerful, Nostalgic & Sweet for Spring
Thank goodness we are all so different and don’t see life through the same lens. We need all of the lenses because it’s a strange beautiful miracle that we’re even here.

We’re hanging in there. This is just the weirdest time ever. I can’t even describe what I’m feeling these days because I have never felt it before and “alien” and “foreign” don’t capture it. Love you right back, beautiful soul. xox
Really love so many of your choices, especially the Etsy Linen. It sure is a time to be comfortable and cosy. Funny, every morning I get up, put on my makeup and get dressed as though someone might see me. When in reality, it’s most likely only my husband who will. Guess it just makes ME feel better to still try and look my best. Crazy but I stocked up on my makeup thinking the factories might stop shipping it. Am I nuts? Now I have to figure out how to dye my own hair!

We are all nuts! I am thinking these same things about makeup and raspberry jam and…I don’t want to admit how much I shelled out for a supply of acai sorbet (the way I have been keeping aloha spirit alive since our return!). Sending you smiles, laughter, and love.
Why do you keep showing the same photos over and over in the same post?

You’ll have to be more specific – do you mean why are there multiple banners to pin to Pinterest with the same photos? Please feel free to contact me through email if you are not a blogger and truly want further explanation to understand the structure of blog posts.
Love reading your posts and looking at all the pretties. Alot of the clothes are not in the budget, but I still can dream. Happy weekend my friend.
