Early Summer Soulful Reflections & Decor Inspo continues a review of beautiful interior design inspiration, design ideas, paint color resources, and lovely finds shared last month (May 2019). There was so much lovely to share, that it requires two installments, and the first is HERE. I’m also sharing personal reflections from my soul, right where I am.
Soulful Reflections: Purity & Seeing
How is your soul today, friend? If you have a few minutes to consider this stream of consciousness flowing from right where I am, I’m ever grateful. But it’s also okay to scroll right by to get to the decor inspiration that follows.
This week, as part of my daily devotional time, I have been reflecting upon the beatitudes.
“Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8) means something different for me today than it did years ago when I was feverishly hustling for my worthiness and earnestly attempting to achieve a measure of ‘purity’ through moral behavior and good works.
Today, I move through my life with less haste and with more intention. I still fail and stumble as usual, but muddling through involves less insecure striving and clinging. There’s more trusting in the Mystery.
If I’m honest, my steps forward rarely feel secure as I learn to walk in the dark.
Today, right where I am with a desire for purity of heart, I long to cultivate greater heartfulness where I can move out of lingering in my head where judging, dissecting, worrying, critiquing, and scheming rule.
When I fall asleep to tending my heart and keeping it vulnerably open, I run the risk of becoming just another floating head in a sea of so many other floating heads. It’s all too easy to become detached from the heart with easy access to virtual worlds that fail to engage bodies, souls, or relationships.
There is so much to see, and as my desire grows to see as Love sees, it does seem Providence moves. Has any of the mystery of this beatitude illumined your own spiritual journey?
While I don’t know much of anything at all, I have begun to notice how welcoming more space in my heart for the divine somehow creates capacity to hold paradox there.
When I can step over myself time and time again, and welcome the divine flow, nature begins to resemble a paradise Father Richard Rohr calls ‘a Christ soaked world.’
Why bother with such intentionality and cultivation of heartfulness? Why not simply rely upon my own resources and self-transformation strategies?
Such a fair question! In my own life, I can see all the times I have come to the end of my resources. Opportunities like loss, chronic illness, and heartbreak will do that.
But my desire to see grows too from the warmth of a mysterious divine spark I sense. From a sweet echo that author David Brooks soulfully names ‘the faint crackling of our inner fire.’ From deep calling to deep within me.
This desire arises from an innermost pure spot of loveliness in the ethereal landscape of beauty in my soul.
New eyes see new things. Like blessings where there were only curses. Like purpose, belonging, and grace within unsavory circumstances–not because of clever silver lining imagining–but because of the purification and holiness of the filter through which they are viewed.
Greater purity of heart brings a capacity to see the sacredness of my life, your life, and the life of the universe.
As heartfulness grows, so too does the knowing…that I am supported in an infinitely trustworthy relationship that will hold–that will sustain me–no matter what harms may come.
