Notting Hill Paint Colors for Front Door Inspiration
I snapped these images on a stroll through Notting Hill and the Holland Park neighborhood where we booked a flat through Ivy Lettings. At the time, I was in London as a nominee for the Amara Interior Blog Awards.

Farrow & Ball Middleton Pink
Let’s start with an elegant pink even though I don’t personally know anyone in the USA searching for a pretty pink door color. Hahahaha. This pretty pink hue on the door and row house exterior below is reminiscent of FARROW & BALL Middleton Pink.
It feels so romantic and Parisian-like, oui?
You MUST have nerve and the proper architecture to pull this one off!

Sherwin-Williams Bitter Chocolate 6013
Sometimes you want the door to play less of a starring role or to be understated when the rest of the home is bold. If your door is not stained wood, you could try a chocolate brown paint.
Peek at Sherwin William’s Bitter Chocolate.
I personally would paint this door a cheerful bright green. What color would you choose for it?
Here’s a chocolate brown door on an elegant residence which is likely home to a celebrity or dignitary.
Wait.
I can’t keep looking at chocolate brown doors without salivating. Have you see these individual chocolate boxes (to maybe fill with chocolate mousse?)?
Benjamin Moore Trout Gray
Isn’t a grey door just classic and dreamy?
Sometimes it takes a little time to find the right gray that isn’t too warm or too cold.
Bear in mind the paint color in the pot may seem darker than what you’re after. However, in most cases, the natural sunlight is going to wash the color out.
That’s why it’s so smart to sample at least three colors even if they seem quite similar.
The grey reminds me of my new Staub French oven with a rooster on the lid…so beautiful, I don’t ever want to put it away!
Benjamin Moore Light Blue 2066-70
If this color is your jam, you probably won’t find a good quantity of options. think I know why. It’s the type of bright blue most homeowners avoid since baby blues or sky blues can be so cloying and too sweet.
Cool blue colors are tricky since you don’t want it to read little boy nursery blue or wow, now that’s blue.
This blue door reminds me of a cheerful blue used in animation or straight out of the 1980s. I find it happy and inviting, if not fantasy-like.
Benjamin Moore Salsa 2009-20 (a Shocking Red-Orange Front Door!)
But maybe red is more your fantasy?
There’s something quintessentially British about this combo!
It’s very close to this Pantone color:
For a slightly warmer red-orange, you could try BM Salsa:
or with more yellow undertones, Outrageous Orange:
They are definitely appetizing and energetic hues!
Notting Hill Paint Front Doors: BM Dark Royal Blue
I spotted these blue doors in the Mews.
(Mews are stables along an alley or homes converted from former stables.) Here’s a suggestion to get the look:
It does feel royal and special, and considering the rusticity of the doors and architecture, it’s an interesting juxtaposition.

Benjamin Moore Razzle Dazzle (Barbie Pink on a Front Door!)
Speaking of alleys…this front door color’s right up mine.
Reminds me of a rosy lip color by Gucci I wear:
Not sure what this pink conjures for you, but it’s giving me blushy cosmetics, Barbie, femininity, and sort of a grown up pink.
It’s bold, but it still feels so sophisticated.
Sherwin-Williams Notable Hue
Sometimes you’re after a very specific blue. Say, a Swedish blue that also borders on a French blue.
This one seems in between and a not quite suggestive of denim:
If you like a little less green in your blues, maybe Harlequin Blue is what you’re after:
When you see this blue with all of the yellow, it feels almost storybook like.
SW Denim
For this color, we’ll take our cue from the stucco siding on this row house exterior.
Americans have a love affair with all things blue in design, and here’s one to consider for an effect like the above home.
The sunlight is going to wash it out (unless you’re in a region where you get little sunlight).
And doesn’t the pinky-red just pop? I would love a pair of jeans in that red colorway!
Benjamin Moore Galveston Gray
I spied my fair share of pretty gray doors in London.
It’s important to sample at least a couple of different grays.
If your front door receives a lot of direct sunlight (for example, Southern exposure), you may want to consider a darker gray paint color for the same effect.
BM Trout Gray may be more appropriate for your unique lighting situation.
If you’re after a deep gray that borders on soft black, BM Cheating Heart may be a smart choice to sample. This is very close to my own front doors. We painted them a SW color called Carbonized which may be discontinued.
Here’s another deeper and darker charcoal with a bit of brown in it so that it reads more like wrought iron:

And here’s something I just thought of to help if you want a particular paint color for a door but haven’t seen a photo of it. Play with a photo with a door color that is close to what you’re after. Then edit it, tweaking the light or warmth or saturation until you love it. From there you can seek paint color ideas on the web. So the bright pink I showed you above looks like this when I turn up the exposure:
All the climbing ivy and vines and roses throughout my stroll was breathtaking!
Benjamin Moore Blue Lapis
Periwinkle blues are not for the shy!
Yet I can imagine how perfect a front door with this tropical blue could be in a rainy climate. Right? It just sings.
BM Mopboard Black
Black doors can be so chic and are never going to fall from favor.
Here’s a black that many designers find trustworthy:
I thought this was gorgeous with bright yellow, and I’m not even into yellow:
But the sunny color just lifts your spirits.
Benjamin Moore Prescott Green
This green door took me by surprise and took my breath away.
There’s just something about those pretty French greens that feels sophisticated, optimistic and uniquely European rather than childish or moody.
It’s a green that reminds me of Paris or the South of France where you see so many uplifting green French shutters…
Pairing green with black and white as demonstrated by this Notting Hill beauty also adds to the chic factor.
Famous Notting Hill Blue Doors
It was so fun to visit the doors on the flat from the film “Notting Hill” at 280 Westbourne St.
There were lots of folks posing in front of the door so I had to be patient to snap a photo of it on its own. Remember “Notting Hill?”
So taken with the pink blooms, I forgot to give the pub’s front door a proper photo!
The weather was mild and fabulous while we were in London!
