24 Inspiring European Country Kitchen Ideas!
Kitchen Design Idea No. 2: Bread Boards
They’re functional, decorative, collectible, and so charming when massed! Additionally, find lovely options HERE. Traditionally created from maple, oak or pine, large circular bread boards (around 2′ in diameter) were used for getting loaves in and out of the oven.

European Kitchen Design Idea No. 3: Fireclay Farmhouse Sink
What is all the fuss about a fireclay farmhouse sink in a decidedly country kitchen anyway? Firstly, I don’t ever want to live without my hardworking 30″ farmhouse sink! Second, the sink’s rectangle shape is decidedly just perfect for accommodating pots and pans. Thirdly, since it is created from fireclay (heated to uber high temperature to render it hard, durable, and beautifully shiny!), the sink does an exceptional job at tolerating my demands since I’m always busily creating in the kitchen.
The design of a fireclay farmhouse sink is certainly about comfort. Before modern conveniences like dishwashers, folks spent long hours scrubbing, and the apron front design eliminates the strain of leaning over a countertop.
Here’s the exact fireclay farm sink I chose for our former kitchen.
Country Kitchen No. 4: Reclaimed Terra Cotta Tile
If you desire to add authenticity, character, and also distinctive earthy color to your kitchen, here’s a decidedly gorgeous antique material with a rich history. More than a century ago, terra cotta tiles were created by hand from natural clay deposits in the earth. Then, after transferring the clay into wood molds for drying, tiles were removed to dry further in the sun before they were finally fired in wood-burning kilns. The unique color spectrum of terra cotta tiles results from variations of temperatures within the kilns.

Glad you are enjoying them as I do, Connie! I learn so much just by viewing kitchens I love as a collection – these common threads emerge and while they are different, there are these essences that you notice when they are side by side. #totallydesignfreaky 🙂
