Can you even believe it is nearly November? It has rained for days, and as temperatures drop…well, snowflakes often fall on the noses of trick-or-treaters in my neck of the woods. So I’m already watching for snow. We’ll revisit this peek at my house which mostly reflects a snowy day! Snowy White Serene Fall Decor Around the House shares peeks around the house as well as preliminary plans for simple holiday decor (with a few white lovely finds for home).
Snowy White Serene Fall Decor Around the House
If your fancy holiday anxiety is beginning to replace your regular anxiety, you may want to peek at this gift guide for ideas or this one with sensible luxuries. I bought a few things in September and plan to wrap up Christmas shopping this weekend. Little by little, it will all be tackled imperfectly.
There’s no time for perfection, and as I mature, I am discovering the joy of simply getting it done. When there’s more time for stillness and to just be, well that’s wellth to me.
Need an idea for a bedroom to make it feel a touch more magical during the holidays? Think a bit of greenery for sconces or the dresser mirror, a bare branch in a clear glass vase or vintage jug, and maybe a creative cover for the big black TV if you have one like I do.
Here’s how I disguised the TV in the great room last year:
I have several candelabra like the one on the mood board below, and I have never brought them into the bedrooms, but they would be lovely in a bedroom window.

Home On a Snowy Hill
Nature is the best decorator. I mean, snowy stone steps! (Below, you can see our steps up the hill leading to the front door.) Our front yard is a woodsy hill lined with mature trees, and large berry bushes providing natural privacy and beauty.
I bought pom pom trim a few holidays ago and swag it over the windows here:
and here:
You know I have to my white wooly pom pom everything!
As far as the Rachel Ashwell designed urn on my kitchen cart? Pottery Barn offers a similar collection of Tuscan urns. They are so timeless and versatile for use all year long.
Snowy Courtyard
A wreath on the gate needs to happen this year since I always forget.
Snowy White Backyard
We have so many shrubs with juicy berries that attract lovely winter birds, and I enjoy every moment of their calming presence.
White Lamp Love
I feel like I could use a few lamps that aren’t so fussy.
The photo below doesn’t do this gorgeous lamp justice, and I need to snap a photo of it in person. The burlap shades are sold separately, and the look is so rustic, laid-back and timeless.
I do love an Old World style urn.
You may not be able to assess the scale of this terra cotta urn on my kitchen counter, but it is enormous and was found in Franklin, Tennessee on vacation.
Inside my Cupboards? More White
Because it’s practical and simple and can be mixed with abandon.
Snowy White Kitchen
Soon the oak and walnut branches will make way for greenery clipped from the yard to fill vases and simple glass jars.
Changing Colors in Fall
The courtyard’s appearance seems to change daily and dramatically. Magical and blanketed in white like this and then a blanket of orange fallen leaves. What remains constant are the busy squirrels, chipmunks, and birds who call it home.
I never tire of white!
My most popular posts to date are those about calm paint colors and about choosing white quartz. Our Viatera (Minuet) counters are still looking great with constant abuse from us, and they were my secret weapon for bringing light into a relatively dim space which started out with dark navy counters.
Yep. Here’s a blast from the past with the navy:
Rustic White Wood Planked Wall
Snowy white reclaimed pine on the bedroom wall has a cleaner feel than stained wood (at least for me) and imparts a warmth the bumpy textured drywall couldn’t deliver.
I still compose at my white piano (from childhood) daily, and I recently moved it to a different wall after a recent refresh of this space.
Here’s how it looks today:
As you’ll see below, I really am influenced by the palette outside!
Distressed White Chandelier
Still haven’t upgraded our bedroom’s ceiling light which is an outdated ceiling fan. Since the ceiling is vaulted, it could handle a grand chandelier. I’m more drawn to simpler and small vintage chandeliers and reproductions like this one.. So I have not yet committed to a giant one.
I find so much timeless, pale, and understated color inspiration from SEGRETO Impressions…it’s a triumph of a resource and worth every penny.
The Color of Snow
I’m not athletic or much of an outdoorswoman beyond power walking and simple hikes through the park, so I tend to enjoy the VIEW of the snow outside and inside.
Snow on the pumpkins is always such a heartwarming sight for me.
Look, mom and dad, I haven’t touched my vintage shutters or piano bench with a paint brush…yet!
Why are the white foods (bread, pasta, vanilla ice cream) so comforting!?!
Bright White Kitchen
Here’s a view of the kitchen I don’t typically capture – it shows how I have attempted to use every inch available for storage in this not-too-spacious kitchen.
Meditative Spaces With White
My studio was converted back to a bedroom, yet it remains a pleasant space to blog and read. I left this wall of script which I painted my hand, and it offers quiet interest.
This room overlooks the front yard:
Sometimes you don’t need a built-in window seat to create a window seat…tuck a bench under a window.
Thanks for listening and peeking inside and out at a range of whites.

WHITE HOLIDAY FOR YOU!
Author
Yes indeed! And fairly minimal relative to my fellow bloggers who know how to deck their halls. Thank you so much for visiting – off to catch up with you, lovely one. 🙂
The chandelier you are considering for your bedroom seems perfect. Keep in mind, when ordering the size, that a fixture might seem too big when viewing but once it’s high up it will be perfect. I have cathedral ceilings in my great room and choose the large one. When we picked it up, it seemed huge. Once hung, it has my heart.
Your snow covered yard looks beautifully serene. It must put you in the Christmas spirit. Do you spread a little of the cheer around before Thanksgiving, or wait until after? It seems there is quite a divide on whether to decorate now and enjoy the season longer or wait.
I would love to get a peak at your art. I see the canvases are turned around. Shy, are we? 😉

Thanks so much for your brilliant ideas and advice, Joanna – I need em! I typically bring the decorations out the weekend after Thanksgiving, but this year I may get started before Thanksgiving. We’ll see how the weekend goes – I won’t do it feverishly because that’s just not the right spirit for me. 🙂 Those canvases have yet to be painted. I’m not shy at all about my art…here’s a taste: https://www.hellolovelystudio.com/2016/09/art-tour-of-my-paintings.html
That was post was before I happened upon your site. I just knew your art would be simply and serene. You paint as you present in words – Eloquently.
Blessings,
~Joanna

Thanks so much, Joanna. What an encouragement you are to me – definitely a muse! 🙂
Your home always inspires me – little changes can make a difference. Very beautiful post Michele.

Thank you, Rhonda, for such kind words. I’m so happy you’re here, and we have so many shared sensibilities that it makes journeying together a blessing. Peace to you and your lovely creative spirit. xox
Michele,
I love simple tablescapes too. I like your Christmas ideas and I especially love the M&M snowman. Now all I want to do is make some.I hope you have a lovely thanksgiving. All the snow looks so beautiful. I like looking at it, not being in it. lol!
Hugs,
Bev

Thanks for the hugs and the spirit of cheer, Bev. Let me know how the snowman cookie decorating goes…I think they are adorable too! 🙂
Thank you for sharing at #ThursdayFavoriteThings. Pinned and shared. Have a lovely week. I hope to see you at next week’s party too!

Oh great! Thanks so much, Marilyn. See you then.
Yes, a bit late to the party and enjoyed viewing if only 2 years late.
May I ask, where did you find exterior mirrors? They are lovely. The setting, charming.

I found them at an outlet store many years ago and aged them with chalk paint. I’m trying to remember if they were originally gold or antique white frames – I am getting old! I mixed Farrow & Ball Hardwick White and Cornforth White 50/50 for the color and added a spoonful of plaster of Paris for my own custom chalky paint then just slapped it on. 🙂
Hi there! I love your style and your taste. Love the neutrals and am in the process of adding a few pieces in my living room and want to add some wall art. I see very little art on your walls. Am I missing it or do you choose something else.

With maybe one exception, all of the paintings on the walls in our home are original and on canvas. You may have to click on “tour my home” to see more rooms. I paint abstracts, seascapes, and mixed media collage. There’s a huge piece above our sideboard in the great room, two large abstract landscapes (not by me) in the hall near great room, two paintings by me in kitchen, and abstracts by me upstairs in two bedrooms. In our lower level, I have original paintings by Cindy Austin and Holly Irwin as well as typography panels by me. There are fine art prints framed in a guest bedroom which also has a wall I covered by hand with French script, and the other wall art in several rooms is rustic vintage shutters. The most recent wall art I added in a bedroom and a bonus room are custom grisaille murals on paper (Photowall Sweden) which you can see if you type “mural” in the search box on my blog. Hope this helps! Thanks so much for reading.
