As the daylight shrinks from December days, and 6 p.m. begins to feel like midnight, a slower pace may feel like the most natural transition. I find myself unwinding each night watching television in bed where I am allowed to momentarily escape a mix of feelings always arriving at Christmastime. Last night, I watched an episode of “Getting Lost With Erin French” where she traveled to Hudson, New York…a place my husband and I loved visiting. The Hudson River Valley brought such wonder to our journey when we spent quiet, unrushed, relaxing time there. That mood and mode is what I hope to capture here with tranquil New York interiors.

Modern Minimal Stylemaker Chic
Athena Calderone’s interiors are instantly recognizable.

I am partial to her ultra-serene zen dens such as this bath:

NYC Atrium Kitchen
You may recognize this kitchen as belonging to Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent who designed the interiors then sold the home.

They missed their former home so much after relocating to Southern California that they bought it back when the owners were ready to let it go! Some designs and spaces engrave such an impression on us that “evolving ever forward” may entail reclaiming past beauty.

Did you know Jeremiah wrote a book? I want to get my paws on a copy!

Trend-Transcendent Hamptons Style
When it comes to Hamptons style, many in social media land equate it with casual, laid-back, Coastal Grandpa, Coastal Grandma hashtags.
But there’s so much more beyond the Nancy Meyer bandwagon blurbs.
For example, I’m a huge fan of Michael Del Piero’s work which has a presence in the Hamptons:

A Hamptons guest bathroom (in Jennifer Ash Rudick’s SUMMER TO SUMMER) features crystal sconces (Palwa, ca. 1965), design elements by Piero Fornasetti, and walls finished in painted Masonite.

New York Swedish Country House Aesthetic
I’ll never forget antique seller Jocelyn Sinauer’s beautiful home featured in Remodelista!

Remember this beauty from the owner of The Red Chair?

How about you? Do you like your Swedish country house pale and lovely like the one above or more vibrant:

Favorite French Kitchens in NY
While she may have moved on from it, many of us have not! Tina’s Enchanted Home kitchen has all the ingredients of a serene dream of a timeless French kitchen to love!
One of Hello Lovely’s followers was so enchanted, he used it as a springboard for his newly built kitchen HERE. Another New York kitchen to charm you? I’ll never tire of tuning into anything Annie Diamond (Most Lovely Things) is creating, baking, decorating, or consuming:
Annie’s energy and appetite for seasonal wonder is absolutely inspiring and amazing, and what a gift that she shares all that goodness with us. Oh, and Jocie Sinauer’s kitchen with its Swedish Frenchy white textural coziness in Hudson is BEYOND:

New York Interior Inspiration from Simon Upton
Simon Upton’s amazing book NEW YORK INTERIORS is a wonderland of high end, bespoke, unexpected beauty.

Isn’t this city kitchen a triumph?
