Happy almost New Year’s Eve, friends. I hope the holidays are gentle. Even the best intentions won’t assure it though. 🙂 On xmas eve, a pittie rescue I adore knocked the wind out of me (by a xmas miracle I caught myself so did not break this time). It was like her energy was saying I love you THIS much and don’t want you to forget. Bam. My emotional tinsel is often in a tangle during holy days so there are bound to be aches and tears. But mostly from the beauty and growing pains. If family gatherings, awkward office parties, and travel woes were less than hushed, visual calm awaits. The comfort of European country homes and gardens, subdued color, and timelessly rustic elegance mingles with guesses about 2025 interiors.

2025 Interiors & European Country Inspiration
Year 16 for Hello Lovely!
What do I know about design predictions? I don’t hold any of this too seriously. But I have some credentials since I have been showing up to class here everyday. Hello Lovely is entering its 16th year of greeting interiors inspiration! I first blogged about my art on a site I created in 2008 when I was a new writer. Then on January 1st 2010, Hello Lovely dawned as a hobby blog.
Much later, this blog bloomed into a business with content chosen for others rather than fleeting random beauty for myself.
How will current events around the globe and the socio-political realm of 2025 influence nesting behavior, decor purchases, and color crushes?
I predict trends with tradition, timeless designs, and cozy comfort, we saw emerging in 2023 and 2024, will grow even stronger.
Do you agree?
Home as Haven
In these post-pandemic years, homes have become important destinations and escapes from anxieties beyond them.
It isn’t as if people aren’t venturing out to dine, enjoy live music, or watch sports, but staying home isn’t just for introverts anymore.
Modern technological advances have changed our behavior and drawn us indoors where screens on the wall and in our hands hold worlds of content.
With more time spent inside our homes, we are investing more thought and money into our interiors.
We expect more from home now. It is where we work, exercise, are entertained, unwind, and learn.
What Design Elements Are Likely to Trend in 2025?
I am noticing an increased interest in all things cozy, natural, uncommon and suggestive of intimacy.
With rising uncertainty around us concerning climate change, pollution, government, crime, extremism, and divisive politics, is it really a wonder we want to welcome more calm into our mini kingdoms?
While marketers and design-related brands seem intent on reducing a decor look to a few words, I don’t think this year’s hashie is as obvious.
There’s a good reason for that.
Vibes & Memes
The 2020s are largely about VIBES, memes, and atmosphere. Younger generations dress themselves and their homes with freshened modern takes that perhaps define them but aren’t one note or easy to reduce.
A hashie like #oldmoney or #coastalgrandmother goes viral because of their wide range of interpretations and implications.
For decades now, we have used the internet to explore ideas, fashion, design, art, history, and interior influences from around the world. At any given time, just one meme or photo posted at the right moment and shared by the right tastemaker may claim the spotlight quickly.
Remember when street slang was slow to media and by the time you heard it in movie or television dialogue, it was no longer cool? Those days are gone.
Today’s cultural climate involves a growing sophistication, complexity, and demand for authenticity, purity, and natural beauty. These qualities are tricky for corporations to produce, supply and exploit…at least overtly.
Companies are eager to make quick profits and drum up demand for the product. A great example of subtlety is the success of the “self-care” industry. The idea that “this candle, this gentle shampoo, this book, this body balm, and these bath salts offer what you need to care for yourself so you’ll have more to offer your life and relationships” strikes a chord.
We are reminded often (ummm, brainwashed) that we feel depleted. We’re not sure how to recover since the obvious answers (a good night’s sleep, a relaxing vacation) seem out of reach.
My hunch is: interiors that feel like visual “self-care havens” will resonate next on the design horizon.
And also escapism. Not that visual escapes are anything new. But people are thinking more deeply about the mood they want to create for their escape from the outside world.
Romantic Cottage Escapism
Followers on one of my most engaged channels (Facebook) are enchanted by old world style cottages and romantic interiors. When the architecture and finishes are this gorgeous, does it even matter what objects join them?
Increased Attention to Aesthetic Details
Years ago, I don’t think the average person thought too much about making the place of entry in their home anything more than functional. But no matter the size of the space, the mood right inside the front door can set a tone.
Does it make sense to invest serious time and cash into a showy entry for visitors? Probably not, but here’s where things are changing in 2025. We’re making the effort for ourselves, for our own nervous systems and peace.
If it used to matter how our lives appeared, now it matters how they FEEL.
Obviously not everyone is as deeply sensitive as many of us design freaks. But people are highly influenced by their interactions and conversations online.
When someone shares online how a little house hack or a particular houseplant improved their mental wellness, the ripples may keep spreading.
Inspiration from Nature & Textural Beauty
With so much virtual everything and ai, we are not connecting with nature as much these days without genuine intention.
It’s not just a sweet idea for our senses to bring nature inside, it may be important to preserve our connection to the earth and its value.
Earthy textures, earthy colors, and nature’s bounty remind us daily that we are not just on the earth but ARE the earth.
Capitalism, high tech, and corporate everything can be cold worlds that leave us feeling empty and used.
What will return us to our senses? How do our surroundings serve as reminders that there is beauty…pure beauty alive and breathing and depending on us to preserve it for future generations?
Organic Comfort, Soothing Colors & Natural Light
What colors will resonate with us in 2025? Warm tones seem to resonate more now. While I can’t seem to live with red, it can be energizing or appetizing to others.
Who can put a value on natural light and how it may lift a mood?
Thank goodness for visionaries among us who share glimpses of their world and help us to notice the colors that move our souls.

Oh the luxuriant beauty of elegant simplicity. Textures, romance, quality-crafted materials, and collections that will never fall from favor.
Sophisticated Taste is on the Rise
With the sophistication in taste that can grow as a result of more exposure to virtual worlds online, more folks are waking up to the beauty of timeless design, patina, and storied collections.
Surely this growing sophistication will affect the buying behavior of younger generations who love nostalgia and antiques.
Even the WAY we shop for our homes has changed so much. We no longer have to hunt for years for a particular piece since a search online may reveal it. And we can demand that brands follow sustainable practices that align with our values. We can make our voices heard when a product or company misrepresents their offerings or creates something hazardous.

There’s more to say about where things appear to be headed!
Of course, my background in counseling means I have plenty of opinions about how changing environments change our behavior and health.

Will European Country & Country French Style Stay Relevant?
It is interesting to note how much we all enjoy escapism whether it is into worlds of fiction or fantasy homes.
What will capture our imaginations in the new year? More European countryside romance? This historic chateau above is called Villa St-Saturnin in the heart of the Luberon National Park near the medieval village of St-Saturnin-les-Apt.
Timeless bespoke kitchen designs that are built for lifetimes rather than a decade? (Above: a kitchen in Atlanta’s Southeastern Showhouse 2017. See this kitchen by Matthew Quinn and Lauren DeLoach. )
More well-crafted cabinetry and furniture that is not cheaply built and destined for a landfill?
The Allure of Solid & Natural
It makes sense that as the cost of construction and building materials has increased, there has been a rising interest in masonry and all things hand-crafted.
Right? We can only appreciate the good when it is gone or nearly gone.
Above: St. Tropez rustic design provides inspiration for dreamers of romantic interiors and exteriors.
We have seen in recent years a renewed interest in renovating the old and honoring original features.
Surely this conservative leaning will only increase even as technology continues to convince us this brand new thing is brighter and better and makes life simpler. hahahahaha
And you do have to laugh when you think about how susceptible we are to messaging from corporations and powers we can’t see. Modern life throws us more curves than this 18th century Provence chateau’s curvy iron staircase!
I hope these peaceful moments to escape, lovely natural textures, and rich character brought a bit of calm to your heart. Thank you for listening to these imperfectly articulated stream of consciousness ideas about what may come.
See THIS for a gorgeous study of textures and layering.
Peace to you right where you are.
