Oui, MORE white houses. We simply cannot overlook all those beautiful facades and white home exteriors brightening the landscape. And what an eclectic mix it is. It’s hot outside, and there’s something magical about summer whites. Do you like wearing it? Along with chambray blue, it’s always my favorite. We started the white houses parade RIGHT HERE.
PRETTY WHITE HOUSES for you and me
Maybe you’re here because you have a preference for white exteriors. Perhaps you’re actually seeking outdoor lighting ideas. Or maybe you’re exploring the idea of a new exterior paint color. I have learned that there are a variety of opinions about white as a color for a home’s exterior.
Some people feel it is a horrible choice because it reflects a lack of imagination. Others believe it conveys a “soul-less-ness.”
Goodness gracious, it is amazing how passionate some voices on the internet are about the topic.
As if a homeowner should be concerned with how the color story of their home makes humans other than themselves feel.
What Factors Contribute to Your Color Choice?
I understand being smart and choosing a tasteful combination to protect resale value and gently fit into the neighborhood.
But do we choose a car color based on the preferences of others or our own?
Should it be a community decision if you don’t live with a HOA?
Are you loving the garden inspiration that accompanies all these white painted beauties? (Apparently I can’t get enough boxwood beauty in my life!)
White Houses & Pale Color Stories
What about those dirtier whites or shades of greige and limestone? They can be suggestive of age and offer a bit more warmth, oui?
I’m ready to check into the French beauty (above) or at least be seated for a meal of anything at all.
Is this a pigeonnier? Oh to have one for the ultimate storybook she-shed!
While we know Le Mas des Poiriers does not have a white exterior – I love the photos where the sunlight has washed it out and it glows pale:

Inspiring Classic & Traditional Style Exteriors
Have you chosen a favorite or two from this parade yet?
Because it truly is a challenge with such a diverse mix!
Grand or tiny, some of these small homes would fit within the living room of the mansions!
What’s your ideal size home?
Some days I think I could live in a 400 sf apartment that has all of my favorite finishes and pretty views outside.
But other days, I feel as if having more space than we require motivates me to get exercise with the necessary chores.
It motivates me to stay creative with various projects I enjoy. And it provides room to gather.
However, I find it is more difficult than ever to actually gather friends and family.
We seem to be at an in-between stage as far as my clan. My sons have not yet married, and the family has scattered across the country. So I am beginning to let go of the idea that I need a certain size or type of home.
I’m trying to allow reality to be reality and to make decisions based upon my values rather than illusions of what I expected or dreamed.
Pretty White Houses With Blues & Greens
What is it about those pale blue-gray shutters and a white facade (above) that pulls at my heartstrings?
Does a particular combination or color palette charm you?
So many homes with coastal style architecture are white.
And you can’t beat it for refreshing dark brick which can feel downright delicious when it is iced like a cake.
White has such a soft, vulnerable, contemplative quality. But which white is right for you?

Sherwin-Williams EIDER WHITE
Have you sampled this one yet?
I’m smitten with SW Eider White and it is the color of our kitchen. Those pinky-purple undertones are going to come through depending on your particular light or exposure, so it’s smart to SAMPLE, SAMPLE, SAMPLE!
What I appreciate about those pinky undertones? The complexity, softness, and flattering quality it can bring to complexions.
Need a Bright White Such as CHANTILLY LACE?
When you’re after a bright white, Chantilly Lace is a smart contender to sample.
Brighter and cooler than White Dove, you’ll really be able to see the differences in the two colors when you sample them side by side.
Benjamin Moore White OC-151
This is a favorite cool off-white I used throughout our former fixer.
And it plays a starring role within Lisa Furey’s famous coastal property as well as on the exterior of the three structures. See more of it HERE.
