It is likely that until it was time to select a white paint color for your interiors, exterior, trim, cabinets, walls, ceilings or windows, you didn’t know the wide range of options. Even when you have decided on a cool bright white paint, there are oodles to sift through! They all have varying undertones and qualities to consider so hopefully these ideas help you narrow down a few. Make sure to sample at least a handful to compare them side by side in your uniquely lit space.

Bright White Paint Colors to Sample
For a more in depth guide for selecting the perfect white for your project, be sure to SEE THIS.
1. Sample This White: Benjamin Moore WHITE DOVE OC-17
What if you really don’t have a clue where to begin? Here’s a trustworthy contender that designers have trusted for decades. Start with a sample of WHITE DOVE.

What will you be getting with White Dove? A very clean, classic, and versatile off white for ceilings, walls, shiplap, window trim, doors, and exterior projects. White Dove is going to reflect a good amount of light since the light reflectance (LRV) is 83.16.

2. CHANTILLY LACE – Benjamin Moore OC-65
Another great white to sample is BM Chantilly Lace here (and sampling these days is so dang easy with peel and stick!).

When you see different white paint samples, you’ll immediately understand why it helps to have multiple options. Chantilly Lace is going to look a lot different when it is side by side by other whites.

Benjamin Moore calls Chantilly Lace a classic go-to white that elicits images of fresh cotton and pure silk. Other neutrals this white will match? BM OC-151 (a favorite I have used and detailed HERE), BM Horizon, BM Seapearl, and BM Edgecomb Gray.

Will Chantilly Lace be too bright of a white?

This baby is super bright with its light reflectance value (LRV) of 90.04.

You may recall that this LRV number is the percentage of light that gets reflected back. In the case of this color, more than 90%!

That’s a whole lotta light and maybe why this neutral color was having a such a moment when modern farmhouse interiors were at their height. Most designers would deem Chantilly Lace too light for exteriors. Typically you’ll want to look at whites with a LRV of 80 or below so it’s not a blinding curb appeal look.

3. SW EXTRA WHITE 7006
You can find a sample of SW Extra White right here in order to compare it with other whites as you search for the perfect white for your specific room or facade.

In terms of maximum reflectance, Extra White is not messin’ around. The light reflectance value (LRV) is 86. Hence, it’s a bit less reflective than Chantilly Lace, yet still stays bright white.

Notice how brilliant Extra White is on the facade above. It’s an off white that feels clean and vibrant.

While this option is an off white, you can see how it isn’t as warm as the white of the bunks in the kids room above. It’s always a more casual and inviting mix when you mix different whites.

Happen to be seeking a white specifically for shiplap or tongue and groove panels? Here are some examples to determine whether Extra White may be worth sampling.

A caution: don’t get attached to a particular paint color based on the name of the color. Extra White may strike you as maybe being the whitest of all these whites…yes?

Yet it is not. So LRV is information that equips you to compare and know which samples to order. Sample at least three different white colors (live with them, watch them in different light through the day, and note undertones between the samples).

4. BM CHINA WHITE OC-141
You can check out China White easily by ordering a paint sample HERE.

The brand calls China White a color with cool gray undertones to freshen up this shade of white. When you’re specifically looking for a bright white, it’s important to be aware of what color undertones are present. Those tones will influence the perception of the color.

Blue undertones in a white may actually appear light icy blue in your space, depending on your eye and lighting. Since China White has grey undertones, with low natural light, the color may appear grey to your eyes. This may be a great thing! Grays are classic, neutral and so easy to live with.

With its LRV of 76.43, China White is not a blinding sort of color for an exterior.

That said, be sure you take your time sampling white paint samples for your siding, brick, or exterior. You may be surprised to notice how light grey colors, for example, are warmed and washed out in the sunlight so they appear white.

Watch how the color samples change from morning to night.

China White works well with Benjamin Moore colors such as Collingwood, Vintage Vogue, Chantilly Lace, and Guest House.

Is China White going to be perfect for your china cabinet? It is likely so!

5. Sherwin-Williams PURE WHITE 7005
Be cautious about reviewing details for Sherwin Williams Pure White since Benjamin Moore also has a color called Pure White.

The best way to know if it’s right? Try a sample of SW Pure White HERE.

Sherwin Williams tells us this bright white has the slightest yellow undertone to keep it from appearing too sterile. Use Pure White for trim for the perfect complement.

It’s okay to buy a sample pot if you have had good results that way, but there are new and easier ways now. Order peel and stick samples with Samplize and they will arrive in your mailbox or on your doorstep.

It’s interesting to note how yellow undertones aren’t easily detected in online photos of Pure White. Its LRV is 84 so it will reflect much more light than China White.

6. Benjamin Moore DECORATOR’S WHITE CC-20
Sample Decorator’s White HERE.

BM writes “A touch of cool gray gives this go-to white sleek, stylish appeal” With its gray undertones, it’s going to be cooler than say Pure White.

The LRV for Decorator’s White (light reflectance value) is 82.68. Perhaps it is why so many designers and homeowners choose this as a trusted bright white. If you’re after a clear, clean, cool, gallery-like white that remains cool without feeling blinding (like a white primer!), this may be your white.

Decorator’s White will look great with Oxford White, Raindance, Chantilly Lace, and Blue Note from Benjamin Moore.

Isn’t this white beautiful with the cheerful blue in the kitchen above?

7. Benjamin Moore WHITE OC-151
You could definitely say I have some history with OC-151 (known simply as WHITE). Sample it HERE.

I loved it enough to paint all of our interiors this hue in our former home.

Interior designer Lisa Furey also trusted this white for all of the interiors AND exteriors at a three building coastal compound!

OC-151 definitely has blue undertones so if you have limited natural light, you may more easily notice the blue. Not a bad thing unless you hate cool blues.

Should you need suggestions for a neutral exterior paint, check out ideas in THIS.

No idea which white paint color was selected for this $14M New York apartment, Decorator’s White would be a good guess. It is cool and seems to have grey undertones.
Peace to you right where you are.
