In one fell swoop, we’ll revisit lakeside cottage paint colors (a Palmetto Bluff property from Lisa Furey Interiors) and gather ingredients to get the look. I have exact paint colors and plenty of resources to set you up for success. A beachy lake house sounds utterly amazing this very moment. The earth where I live is blanketed with snow. Somehow it doesn’t seem right since we had only begun to daily look for budding and greening! Are you also a lake house dreamer and schemer? Let’s dig in.
Lakeside Cottage Paint Colors: Get the Look!
This beautiful coastal new build with three structures was dreamed into existence by designer Lisa Furey; Architect: Court Atkins.
White Paint Color: Benjamin Moore WHITE OC-151
So much white inside and out, but which white? There are hundreds to consider!
Benjamin Moore White OC-151 is the white chosen for all of the interiors and exteriors. It’s what drew me to this project in the first place. This is the exact white I painted walls, trim, and ceilings in our former fixer. And when I say “I” I don’t mean the color I told the painters to use. I’m the painter in the family, and it never fails to surprise me how transformative a fresh coat of white can be. Read a thorough description of OC-151 in THIS.
It’s a very cool, bright, crisp white with blue-grey undertones – make sure to sample it with a few additional whites to be able to more clearly see detect undertones. The sun will wash out and warm the white on exteriors, but it may still be too bright for your lighting context and preference.
Here is White OC-151 in the cottage’s beautiful kitchen:

Beachy Lake House Accent Colors
Benjamin Moore PASHMINA
Still subtle, a warmer neutral was selected for the kitchen island: Benjamin Moore Pashmina.
I love how this tone contrasts with the marble countertop material and works well with white oak hardwood flooring.
Isn’t soft and lovely as an accent? Blue is another accent color used throughout the home.
Here’s the navy blue on a built-in the foyer:
I love how this piece stands out against the white shiplap and serves as a closet just inside the front door.
Let’s peek at more of the entry and learn about the decor to get the look.
Get the Look: Lake House Porch & Foyer
All of the light fixtures were handcrafted in New Orleans by Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights.
A similar Shaker style bench:
and wouldn’t something classic like this lantern be stunning?
I love these timeless possibilities for a lake house or coastal property.
But modern is another direction you could travel for the lighting story.
It really depends on the overall story you’re telling.
Lighting & Decor in Foyer
Sometimes the suggestion of age, history, and patina adds rich character to the scheme.
Yet a freshened traditional look need not be stuck in a particular era.
I have been crushing on this batik-covered bench for sooooooo long! (The batik upholstery seems to not be available at the moment so it comes in a neutral now.)
Isn’t it graceful, feminine, and proportioned like the best antiques?
The designer opted for non-recessed can lighting options…
A similar coastal style bell shaped ceiling light:
If you’re eye is used to seeing lots of swiss cheese holes in the ceiling with recessed lights, it may take you a second to get used to all of the flush mounts.

Lake House Living Room: Get the Look
You can’t get much more simple for window treatments than drapes that virtually disappear.
This industrial influenced lighting look keeps the design informal with a bit of edge.
Finding “edge” is such a subjective matter!
It helps to work with a good designer who can guide you to the proper balance that suits you.
Because the details (even in the most simple of lake houses!) will add up. Should you opt for the white finish or the natural wood finish? Matte black or oil rubbed bronze?
If you’re wondering about the source of those pillows and the name of the fabric…
Boom! Here’s another option:
A white sofa is just so perfect for so many coastal or lake house schemes.
And there are so many performance fabrics these days so you won’t have to baby it.
Blue and white as a combo in a seaside retreat is hard to beat.
Here’s another smart texture to introduce in a casual setting such as this one.
Also, find more woven and jute area rugs with geometric interest HERE.
Not the exact flooring, but here’s a very pretty similar engineered flooring.
Are you beginning to get a feel for how modern shapes and proportions freshen a traditional envelope?
Natural materials, understatement, whimsy, and restraint prevent the effect from feeling tired and dated.
Coastal Dining Room Resources
When you don’t have a need for a formal dining room, why fight it?
Again, the lighting is more masculine and industrial.
There’s a mix of modern and more traditional style.
Here’s another direction you could venture with a different metallic color story:
You can also sense an airy serene quality from all of the softer touches.
For example, these interesting woven chairs are suggestive of nautical nods.
Believe it or not, there’s still more! We’ll continue the lake house goodness with resources for the kitchen, bedrooms and baths in Part 2.
Peace to you right where you are.
