We began the discussion of a magnificent renovation of a timeless modern Tudor home by The Fox Group RIGHT HERE. While we focused on the timeless decorating of the interiors in that post, today we’ll touch on more of the architectural features of Tudor style. Then we’ll explore interior inspiration from The Fox Group as well as resources for furnishings and decor. The inspo may ease design discussions if you are building or renovating and admire classic, traditional, and timeless elements.
Inspiration From a Modern Tudor by The Fox Group
Timeless Modern Tudor: Traditional Tudor Style Architecture
It is hard to believe this is a renovated home since the changes wrought are utterly seamless and blend beautifully with the original footprint.
What distinguishes Tudor style?
Tudor architecture was prevalent in England during the Tudor period (1485–1603) and is characterized by the following distinctive features:
Modern Tudor Half-Timbering
Tudor buildings often feature exposed timber frames filled with wattle and daub or brickwork. A timber framework creates a decorative pattern, with the spaces between the timbers typically filled with plaster or brick.
Steeply Pitched Roofs
Tudor roofs are usually steeply pitched, often with multiple gables and dormer windows as you see in this home. A steep pitch allows for rainwater drainage and accommodates heavy roofing materials such as tiles or thatch.
Decorative Chimneys
Have you noticed that homes with Tudor architecture often have elaborate chimneys? Often tall, they may be intricately designed with brick or stone. You’ll see them feature decorative patterns, twisted stacks, or ornate carvings.
Modern Tudor Arches
Tudor arches, also known as four-centered or depressed arches, are prevalent in doorways, windows, and passageways. These arches have a flattened shape with rounded corners, creating a distinctive architectural element.
Gabled Facades
Tudor homes frequently have prominent gables projecting from the main structure. Gables are sometimes embellished with decorative bargeboards, finials, or carved motifs.
Large Windows & Modern Tudor Architecture
Tudor buildings typically have large windows, often with small panes of glass set within leaded frames. Windows are commonly arranged in symmetrical patterns and feature decorative mullions and transoms.
Symmetry and Proportion
While known for their intricate detailing, Tudor architecture often exhibits a sense of symmetry and proportion. You’ll notice these structures are typically designed with balanced compositions and harmonious proportions.
Overhanging Upper Floors
In some Tudors, the upper floors overhang lower floors, creating a striking visual effect. (Known as jetties, they provide additional interior space without increasing the building’s footprint.)

An incredible array of designs from The Fox Group inspire; all of them grand and created to stand the test of time.
Gilded iron and antique brass seem to be enjoying a long trend at the moment.
And why not? When natural materials are involved, we should have as many options as possible to ensure a truly custom look. As far as paint color, the Fox Group often turns to this paint color for their white kitchens, trim, and house exteriors:
Where does your eye go first? Statement wall of marble or those magnificent shaded Ralph Lauren pendants over the island?
My eye went straight to the blue French range! What a moment in a field of MOMENTS.
If you love a navy blue kitchen, this one just may knock your socks off:

If you have ever sought a bid for custom built-ins from a carpenter, then you know how expensive any sort of storage unit for books, backpacks, or display can be.
Here’s a ready-made option to add architectural interest and character while scoring a place to stow everyday essentials.
Budget Conscious Sconce
It’s so interesting to me that frequently I am searching for a fixture which has simple clean lines and a straightforward design, and it’s nowhere to be found in a sea of overly ornate or complicated designs. Here’s an exception.
Here you can see the sconce inverted for a different look:
