We have been deconstructing a gorgeous coastal design from Lisa Furey in hopes of putting our own spin on lakeside cottage charm. Part 1 is here, and Part 2 is here. It’s not so much copying every paint color and lamp as much as looking closer at how the mix is balanced and beautiful. What is skipped? Where is there balance? How do colors affect an overall mood and encourage relaxation? Of course, we can also help with practical matters…Where can I find a faucet like that!?! Lakeside cottage interiors inspo comin right at ya.
Lakeside Cottage Interiors Inspiration: PART 3
Don’t miss the first two installments (HERE and HERE) to get the full scoop on paint colors and interior resources.
Paint Color for Inside & Out
In case you are landing here and haven’t read the other posts, you’ll probably want to know which white paints the exterior and every wall inside…
Organic Simplicity in a Blue Lakeside Cottage Bedroom
Have you noticed that more designers and home builders are opting to keep bedrooms on the small size?
It makes so much sense considering the purpose of a bedroom. In fact, there are so many challenges and potential mistakes to be made if a bedroom is over-sized!
While bedrooms are shrinking a bit, baths and closets seem to be growing.
The age of self-care is upon us, and many folks need their homes to function as a retreat (whether there is any lake or not!).
If a small lake house bedroom only has room for a few furniture pieces…
It’s easier to justify buying top quality timeless options.
Psst. Find more options for blue gourd table lamps RIGHT HERE.
Paint Colors & Bath Resources for a Lake House
Here’s the classic and tranquil color of the bath vanity:
Isn’t it a great paint color to remember when you need a soft light grey to work with grey-veined marble?
I love all the circular shapes introduced! And do we care yet what the headlines scream as far as gray paint being in or out? Let me check…
ALL THE NOPES. Gray is neutral. It’s in nature. It plays nice with a lot of other colors. And it can be truly meditative. I see no need for it to at times disappear from the landscape when a boardroom full marketers decide to cancel it for a season.
Gray tile is interesting. Americans tend to more often reach for white. What are your thoughts? Is it too moody to greet for your morning shower or bath?
We don’t often see decorative plates on the walls of the bath, but why not let them live as art if you love them or if they belonged to someone you loved?
This type of vessel sink can be such a smart option when you are repurposing an old vanity or even a vintage piece of furniture. When the vanity is too low, these basins add height for more everyday comfort.
I am always amazed at the range of costs involved for bath sconces.
Even the most budget-friendly options are packed with style.
The same could be said for faucets, but I would never skimp in this department!
Unless you love encountering plumbing issues in the future or replacing a corroded model, buy solid brass and the best you can possibly afford.
Get the Look: Lake House Bedroom
The “dare to be spare” vibe continues in this bedroom where soothing coastal color accents meet expanses of Benjamin Moore White OC-151.
Need an idea to begin building around and set a tone in a coastal bedroom? Someday this swing will show up in one of my spaces!
I was surprised to see the modern ceiling fan in this space since it has such a hardness. But I suppose when you need a ceiling fan, you need a ceiling fan!
It’s important to know yourself and not create a visually stunning design for how someone else lives. For example, do you read in bed every night? Then you may need swing arm sconces:
Here’s a simple nightstand idea:
What I admire about this particular bed is how it is a combination of beautiful elements: a poster style bed with upholstered headboard.
Bedroom Porch
What a dream to have a haint ceiling screen porch right off your bedroom in a coastal environment!
Can you imagine falling asleep out here because once upon a time I had an amazing screen porch where I napped peacefully. Truly I have never been a napping type until that porch came into my life. FIND A BED SWING HERE.
This just may be my favorite spot in the whole house.
A porch with any swing at all would seem dreamy!
Modern Country Style Meets Lakeside Cottage Decorating Ideas
Sometimes what your bathroom needs is a few upgrades rather than a full gut job.
Upgrading a faucet or changing out the hardware on a vanity can elevate a space.
Even changing out the mirror has potential to freshen your bath.
And I can attest to the difference bathroom lighting upgrades can make. If you need more light over your vanity, look at options with more lights or wattage. It is a gamechanger when you can see!
When Your Lakeside Cottage Has a Guest House
We can dream! Once again, we are treated to design lessons where the professional designer shows us how to treat cozy small bedrooms.
Does it even matter if the beautifully dressed bed takes up most of the room’s real estate? COZY von COZY.
You have to adjust your thinking a bit. Instead of “there’s only enough room for the bed!” You can muse, “I’m going to make that bed a masterpiece!”
You don’t need a fancy education in design to make decisions about beautiful bedding in your favorite colors and patterns.
Blue and white are coastal grandmother best friends, yes? How much do we adore this cheerful runner on the stairs!?!
I would never tire of the pattern!
Garage With Carriage House
The sweetest coastal cottage kitchenette, anyone?
Who can resist those itty bitty shelves!?
The only thing better than an apron front farm sink is a mini version!
How would you ever get guests to leave?
Here’s a similar chair in a natural finish:
Is this whole property a love letter to the power of white?
Hope you enjoyed this entire tour and all of the chic not shabby glimpses.
