Since my FB page is growing more engaged, there’s this opportunity to notice which inspiring interiors and exteriors seem to resonate with an international audience of timeless design fans. Sometimes I have a hunch what will likely strike a chord. Yet other occasions, I am surprised by what is deemed worthy of sharing. I’m learning so much about trends, appetites, tolerances, and an audience that is definitely not my blog audience.
Trending Inspo Timeless Design Fans Devour
Do you follow my page? Most of the time, folks are civil there, but it can get weird. I wouldn’t recommend running a small online business like mine if you have thin skin or desire any sort of stability. So much change! Platforms are constantly changing, and algorithms swing fiercely. But back to what folks are devouring and loving…let’s discuss.
Trends Vs. Timeless
It’s always interesting when traditional or timeless designs are suddenly trending. They aren’t trendy designs, they just happen to resonate with a wider mainstream audience…and it is likely temporary.
So for example, when Grandmillennial style emerged, suddenly Granny’s interior style, 80s everything, chintz, and brown furniture was cool to folks born in the 80s and 90s.

And remember when someone came up with the #coastalgrandmother hashtag?
When Timeless Begins to Trend
All of a sudden classic coastal and preppy everything were in vogue.
Everything old gets repackaged as something new, and marketers love this! The reigning queen of design for my FB page fans? Cathy Kincaid.
Does the chair at the top of the staircase bug you? Because that one detail caused a hurricane of engagement when I shared that image! To me, there’s something about the presence of the chair that makes the styled photo register as real to my brain. Am I crazy? My followers cannot stand that it’s there.
Maybe it’s because I’m a trained therapist and always thinking about human behavior, but I have been shocked by the varying tolerance levels of the blog audience vs. the FB one. FB followers have a lower tolerance for real life quirky or imperfect details. They’re not fans of monochromatic color stories and critical of pared down simplicity as well.
Artificial Intelligence Design & Timeless Style
AI designed interiors and exteriors are now here for every (and any) trending style! My followers are partial to European inspired Old World storybook type architecture.
Things are so nutty as AI surges just now, and as the technology improves, it becomes trickier to distinguish fact from fiction.
In fact, my followers love picking apart AI designed architecture and landscape details, noting mistakes or unrealistic features.
It has been interesting to watch engagement soar for AI designs. I have written about AI here and here.
Sometimes it upsets people to learn that a particular house doesn’t exist in real life. I am still trying to unravel the roots of the disappointment since I personally view all of the fantasy designs as inspiration to admire…
not unlike admiring the beautiful interiors or homes in movies. So many times they are simply Hollywood sets.
Hollywood, AI, and New That Looks Old
In fact, the real Cotswold cottage (Osborne Interiors) above has thrown lots of followers for a loop. They assumed it was Rose Hill Cottage from The Holiday. But the cottage in the movie doesn’t actually exist. Producers had portions of exterior built in a field for some shots and then built sets for the interiors inspired by real English cottages. The Osborne Interiors cottage is a newly built (to look old!) real cottage…
Isn’t it all rather confusing when you combine AI designs, Hollywood sets, and new builds built imperfectly to look old?
No wonder so many folks have trust issues in American culture right now at a time media is consumed more than ever! In my opinion, it’s a little late to be freaking out about AI. I had my own freakout season 2014ish as I read about how AI was changing landscapes/cultures, and I feared future generations might not worry about species becoming extinct if we had holograms that were “real enough.” I’d love to hear your analyses!
Timeless Mountain Cozy Cabin Interiors
This Yellowstone Club guest house is striking a chord with followers. I remember not just seeing the photos in the Elle Decor article with this Montana guest house by Ken Fulk, but reading every word.
Why wouldn’t I? The designer is so interesting and fun, and you just know there will be surprises and secrets revealed.
This Yellowstone Club living room (above)? Fulk snagged those ottomans from Costco!
It’s a reminder of how you can create an emotionally evocative space even without bespoke everything.
Steve & Brooke Giannetti’s Tennessee Cabin at Patina Meadow
Forget trends and labels, patina style is purely timeless and pleasing in any era. What an exciting time for the Giannettis who relocated from Patina Farm (Ojai) to Patina Meadow (Leiper’s Fork, TN).
Brooke now shares images of the small historic home on their property they are presently calling home.
Get a peek of their beautiful bedroom with the 18th century tapestry behind the bed that you may remember from their home at Patina Farm.
Isn’t it cozy and all sorts of timeless lovely?
Wintry Cozy Cabin Vibes
It seems legions of folks can imagine spending time in a setting like this. How about you? I can imagine doing something similar on our property someday.
The bunk room at this Big Sky, Montana guest house is unforgettable, but my FB fans are asking about the reality of making those beds!
Have you ever had a bunk room? They’re so nostalgic and sweet, but I wonder if they provide restful sleep. I’m thinking the only bunk room we probably need here is a pet bunk room for the furry grandpets. How cute would that even be!?!
Softly Rustic Small Bedroom
Marie Flanigan magic!
Isn’t the storage trunk with the flat top a smart addition in a small space?
This bath by Marie Flanigan with beautiful reeded vanity is so classically timeless and packs so much interest into a small footprint! It is styled in such a warm and organic way, yes?
While it in no way whispers ‘cabin,’ I can imagine snow falling gently outside this bath with its snowy-soft walls.
Sherry Hart Designed Rustic Modern Bath
The green floor is such a beautiful addition to this neutral bath design by Sherry Hart.
If you have always dreamed of using this Schumacher wallpaper, maybe you should!
Timeless Style Admirers Don’t Always Agree
These sweet lifestyle images are not popular with the timeless design lovin’ FB followers like they are with Pinterest peeps.
It just goes to show you that what one person scrolls right by…
another is captivated, transported, and uplifted by it.
We’re all so different and wired in complex ways.
Does your heart skip a beat when you see a silvery forest?
Could you meditate with a scenic view like this for like ever?
Does a Christmas tree on a lake take your breath away?
It has been such a curious journey for me as a blogger. I started blogging in 2008 and created HELLO LOVELY in January of 2010. Back then, there was a distinction between blogs, businesses, and brands so we blogged about what was moving us personally.
When I decided to blog for business 2018ish, I realized quickly that it was all about creating content for others, with a little commentary but always with a focus on answering questions and solving problems for others.
Paint colors are something Google told me people were visiting this blog for. Also, people come here when they’re shopping for furniture and feel overwhelmed.
It’s not that I’m thinking about furniture all of the time or even that I adore creating mood boards. Goodness, our home is furnished with the same pieces I bought when we built our first home in 2007. I create for an audience. Which brings me to another curious aspect of design blogging. Like a lot of designers, I can’t always afford the pieces you see represented here. I think it’s why I love posting about skincare, books, and lifestyle with products I love and use. Again, I am mindfully creating for others and no longer posting my own wish-list fantasies on a whim.

Thank you for this post. It’s interesting the differences between FB and Instagram. I gave up on FB quite awhile ago. I still have an account but don’t go there. I felt it very negative and harsh. Not helpful. It’s almost like they don’t have enough to do! The issue I see with AI is that it’s so polished and sometimes surreal it makes the viewers feel “less”. Not obtainable . We live in a very challenging world. Where we are ignoring the real dangers and focusing on the stupid by being hyper critical. As for the kids wanting “brown “ furniture! Where are they! All my kids want is mid century! Have a happy day!

Thanks for taking the time to share these thoughts! I hear you about negativity – seems some folks live for transmitting their pain on social channels. So interesting that my FB audience responds passionately to AI perfection. I don’t know if the algorithm is to blame – ignoring the sweet animals and lifestyle photos in favor of perfect fantasy residential architecture. We do seem to be stuck in the stupid phase of the internet as far as our culture. If we look at history, we know it took time for revolutionary technologies to be used in meaningful ways (printing press, etc.). Although I’m not sure we have seen the worst of what internet culture can be. Happy holidays to you and yours!
