I hope your spirits remain bright as you move through the final week of the year and prepare your heart for a brand new one. We have no white stuff on the ground at the moment, but my thoughts are on a favorite topic: snowy white interiors. Today’s Nordic French Style Cottage: Serene White Interior Ideas is a tour of an English country cottage with serene and spare whispery pale rooms to inspire. (And do keep your eyes peeled for seriously gorgeous cats who roam the property!)

Design Elements in This Home
Inside you’ll find window seats, floor to ceiling windows, and an updated boot room as well as Plain English cupboards in the lovely kitchen with an enviable cream AGA.
Also impossible to overlook?
A trio of Maine Coon cats who call this location home (keep your eyes peeled for them in images!).
Serene French Nordic Bath
Quiet colors, humble fixtures, and weathered finishes are always welcome for a Nordic French cottage look.
White Bedroom With Gentle Touches of Pink
What a dream to have those deep window sills for amazing window seats!
If you’re looking for a greyed-white paint color to achieve a similar look, try Benjamin Moore Classic Gray.
Country Home With Nordic White Interiors
There’s nothing like a beautiful crystal chandelier, and what a bonus when it can be reflected in a mirror.
A serene look is often a very pared down look so simple branches in a clear vase look more at home than a fussy floral arrangement.
Wabi Sabi Wonder & Vintage Goodness
Don’t you love the scale of the glass fronted cupboard?
Simple, White, and Scandinavian Style Entry
I love the barefoot elegance of this foyer!
Twinkly Lights in a Gorgeous Nook
When you love beaded board as much as I do (it’s such a timeless classic for country cottages and beyond), this serene moment just sings:
Plain English Country Kitchen
Do you love an English country kitchen with traditional style?
What a surprise when a kitchen which could accommodate a large island is home to a lovely farm table instead.
All White Decor in a Country House
Imperfect floors are not for everyone, but if you live in an old house or appreciate signs of age, then you probably understand.
Mercury Glass & Antique Mirror
Do you love the look of antiqued mirror?

Romantic French Crystal Chandelier
I rarely see oversized vintage mirrors so in most cases, I would imagine they are custom items.
But aren’t they amazing for bouncing the light around and expanding a small space?
Pale & Lovely Living
Fine me in a sunny room like this!

Have you noticed that wood floors are often welcome in European homes?
It would seem that Americans are much more likely to add tile, vinyl, or waterproof materials even though they are not nearly as comfy underfoot.
Farm Sink, Wood Countertops & European Country Simplicity
All the painted surfaces lend themselves to a laid-back, soft, serene look which isn’t showing off.
Even the windows are bare and minimal.
Scandinavian Style White Wood Floors
So many of us are curious about how white painted hardwood flooring wears and whether it is a constant headache to live with.
I lived with white painted flooring for a couple of years in a room that didn’t get a lot of traffic, and while I loved the look, you have to be okay with lots of scratches and chips.
If you are serious about going for it, I suggest testing a plank of wood that is similar to what is in your room. A few coats of an oil based primer is likely the first step before paint.

Layering whites can yield such beautiful results.
Pretty White Slipcovers
Seeing the custom slipcovers in this cottage inspires me to make my own!

What Are Main Coon Cats Anyway?
Maine Coon Adoptions says of the gentle giants:
“Maine Coons usually have muscular, broad chests and long rectangular bodies with long, flowing, silky fur, often with a front ruff. Males average 15-17 pounds, with some reaching 25 pounds or more, and females average 12 pounds. They may not reach full size until they are about four years old. Maine Coons come in just about every cat color and pattern (about 75 altogether) — solid, tabby, red or orange, cream, white, buff, black, silver, brown, multi-colored, tortoiseshell or calico.”

Those cats!! So beautiful! This post reminds me how much I love using lots of mirrors of all shapes and sizes in all different ways…so simple and pretty. Thanks again for another lovely post, Michele ma belle! 🙂 …which means ‘my beautiful Michele’:) …now I will be singing that song all day! ha!

Hahahaha. One of my dear friends calls me Shel-Belle, and I’ll answer to anything written by the Cute One! I adore this cottage, and its simplicity just pulls at the heartstrings. Yes – those mirrors – makes me want to sprint to the nearest antique mall! 🙂 Thanks for keeping me company and laughing with me, Amy.
I could live in this house and feel “I’ve arrived at home!” 🙂 Everything about it says serene & restful while happy & uplifting all at once.
When I saw this house somewhere else, we were inspired to do the same wide white plank floors in our hallway. It is easy to clean and easy on bare feet. We were going to do the same floors in our LR but now are selling so maybe the next family will do that 😉
LOVED this post! A breath of fresh air—that’s what white does for me!

I feel the same way about white – it so refreshing and inspires me to dream! I love that you painted your floors and cannot wait to do that someday. I painted the engineered flooring in my studio white and lived with it for a couple of years, but I’d love to have white painted real wood! 🙂
Just when you peaked my interest in a grey green for my guest room walls, we’re gazing on all this beautiful white. Why would I change what I already have and love?
I love Coon cats! They are beautiful, but almost daily brushing would be required to keep all that fur under control. Three?! A labour of love.
Have a beautiful day,
~Joanna

I haven’t owned a cat since I was a child, and I’m a little obsessed with them at the moment. Hahahaha – the grooming would feel natural to me since it is what was required with the shih tzus we were lucky to have. Thank goodness they found it relaxing because it was an everyday thing! You’re cracking me up about the green vs. white – I know designers who paint and repaint all the time! 🙂
Noooooooooo! You can’t say something like “enviable cream AGA” and not show it!!
Otherwise, gorgeous.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for noticing the image didn’t make it into the post – it’s there now!!! And a bonus kittycat just for you – sorry about the hiccup! 🙂
Those Agas are just so darn cute! : )

They sure are – would love to experience one of those cookers one day!
You should sell cats. I would buy one.
Love seeing the Maine Coons.
And, of course all the white interiors.
Merry Christmas.
