Over-60 Lifestyle & Beauty shares where I’m at this very moment moving forward and growing in faith as a creative, soulful, and magnificent work in progress.

Over-60 Lifestyle & Beauty (Right Where I Am)
Omg it is a bittersweet experience to blog daily! There’s this archive of thoughts and emotions shared on this exact day, year to year. When I revisit those reflections, I often think goodness, have I progressed at all?

I often share bits of my health journey, and life with Crohn’s includes days of flare and days without flare. What is certain is uncertainty. My management of illness, stress, work, and change along with my capacity also varies. REST for recovery is essential:
To cope with the realities of life’s uncertainty, symbolically I see myself as a student discovering many lessons along the path. Since one of my heart’s deepest desires is to grow, can I really ever complain about earth school’s curriculum? Because I trust the faculty. 🙂
On the mood board above, find a book by Caroline Myss, and I am devouring all of her wonderful work. Last summer was when my medical treatment (for suspected Lupus) was stopped and my recovery from its damage began. My diagnosis was once again mysterious or my familiar friend, Crohn’s (diagnosed at age 18).

A year later, I have largely detached from a need for a name for the chaos which keeps the days uncertain. I take one day at a time, and I’m not running from suffering as much as moving toward freedom.
I invest my energy into spiritual practice and healthy physical habits. Self-compassion, prayer, and allowing reality to be reality are huge. Which brings us to lip gloss. Fine. Hahahaha. I need a bit of frivolity, whimsy, and aesthetic escape where possible.
Over-60 Beauty & Health
A new dermatologist was a gamechanger in June when my face blew up with three different conditions. Thank goodness all of the prescriptions work beautifully.
Two big changes to my skin care routine. First, serious sunscreen every single day even if it’s cloudy and I’m inside. Second, no more oil-based products since my moisture barrier decided lipids are the enemy. (You may recall I can’t easily break down and digest lipids as well.)

Lipstick as Protection
Here is the lip stain I have worn for many years to lock in moisture. I recommend ordering it online since this color (Miracle Mauve) is ALWAYS sold out and missing from drugstore shelves.

I’m looking for a good hydrating lip balm so let me know if you have a favorite. The one I have used for years is olive oil-based, and as I mentioned, I’m eliminating oils.

Do you talk lovingly to yourself like the above tweet? I am really trying to change my self-talk to become more empowered, and at this stage of the journey I feel like I’m faking it. These things take time, and I refuse to think about my 60s as being too late for anything. Cosmic goddesses devouring the moon are ageless, and we only need the appetite.

Benefits of COLLAGEN
I mix mine in orange juice each morning, and here’s my favorite source of collagen:

Aging isn’t a sudden sorrowful decline we make after age 35; it’s a process our whole lives through.

Uncomplicated Skincare Routine
My sensitive, rosacea-prone mature skin that now freaks out with oil-based anything needs all the soothing help it can get.

Here are some of my must-haves that make everyday more uplifting:

Clean Beauty I Can’t Quit
I thought this cotton cashmere sweater’s heather oatmeal color and interesting sleeve was a great find for fall:

When you are after organic cotton and fair trade certified clothing:
Should you be serious about smoothing and extra support…

Pajamawear
If you have been hangin’ out here for any length of time, you may recall I’m a pajamanista. This style is still my reigning favorite:

Gourmand Scent
This is now a daily essential, and even if you feel you have tried every vanilla scent out there, end your search here!

I also wear Vanilla Skin layered with Coconut Skin which is fantastic as a hair fragrance too.

Over-60 Hair Finds

I color my hair at home every six weeks, and this process can make my hair fragile. Here is a leave-in treatment for dry ends prone to split. Organic bergamot, mandarin, ylang ylang and more plant essences impart their pure loveliness.

Psst…good to know:

I have been doing more reading than writing lately. Maybe I’ll self-publish a book in the future, but there are so many amazing authors to discover! (Also, isn’t it sort of renegade in 2026 to NOT write a book since everyone and their cat is writing one with Ai and ghost writing services?)

Is your sense of humor still intact? Good! It smooths out so many wrinkles the days bring.

I’m ever grateful for the good days I enjoy – just a reminder that healing is a process and not some sort of solid arrival or endpoint.

So we can heal in the absence of diagnosis, cure, and certainty.
Right where I am, I am working with new tools for deeper insight, more empowered choices, and healthier boundaries. We are never too old to see our lives in a fresher lovelier light.
Peace to you right where you are.

You mentioned that you are looking for a new hydrating lip balm. There are two skincare lines that I trust and use because they have been created by dermatologists–Doctor Rogers and Whitney Bowe MD. I have used Rogers for more than a year now, and I get compliments quite often on my skin (I just turned 70). I will start using the Bowe peptide soon. Sorry to digress. I have not tried their lip balms yet because I use, and am happy with, the one that you always used–Boom stick. Nonetheless, you might want to give a look see. Good luck!
