We spotlighted Suzanne Kasler when her book Edited Style rocked the design world, and if you have yet to secure a copy, it is truly timeless and will not disappoint! You may also be familiar with her work if you subscribe to the glorious MILIEU. Their Fall 2023 issue features a breathtaking collaboration with Jeremy Corkern, and here’s a glimpse of it. Near New Orleans, you can’t miss the beautiful art, antiques, and timeless design brilliance:
Suzanne Kasler Design Timelessness
To get a sense of her process and philosophy, here’s a peek inside her own home:
Kasler creates these unique, one of a kind, luxe designs that are livable works of art.
And I’m always drawn to the color stories decorating her portfolio.
The blue of those shutters! It’s so cheerful yet sophisticated.
I like reading every single word, but even if you simply study the photos, you are in for an education.
While Kasler loves white, you’ll see how she uses color in such a thoughtful manner.
“When a featured color or element from one room creates a cameo appearance in another, the nuanced reference pulls the rooms together abstractly. This may not be noticeable, but it feels right.”
– SUZANNE KASLER
While I am feeling exhausted at the moment from Barbie pinks, the way this designer uses corals and pinks is anything but dull or trendy.
Understated Sophistication
You cannot miss this golden thread of understated sophistication running through all the work.
Each design element feels special and elevated, yet there is a quiet integrity within the completed whole.
Proportions are grand without feeling overly grand.
And even when bold colors are introduced, there is a quiet ease.
Timeless Tranquility
If you love beautifully soft French inspired blue-greys, then you may be drawn to her work.
Sometimes in the accents…
And sometimes with bold strokes…
It’s a blue I can easily imagine loving to live with!
Classic Elegance & Architecture
With a refined eye, Kasler imagines rooms that can feel downright palatial.
And truly set apart:
Yet her Midwestern roots influence her sensibilities too.
As a result, a sense of relaxation joins all of the refinement.
It’s a combination made in heaven when you’re after a timeless home that feels more welcoming than museum-like.
Lightened Up & Freshened Traditional
Timeless is so much more than drawing from tradition, and I admire how Suzanne Kasler rooms don’t feel stuck in an era.
While she embraces traditional style, she takes liberties and helps clients clarify how they wish to uniquely express it.
Because there are truly a myriad of expressions of what we call “traditional.”
What is Kasler’s Approach to Color?
Here’s what Kasler says about using color in her Buckhead project:
“You can sequence color strategically throughout a house, but it doesn’t have to be obvious. The subtle reference to coral shows up in room after room in different guises–in the pattern of a curtain fabric, as pillows, in a bouquet, as cording. In the rooms that are mostly shades of bone and neutral, the coral color really stands out.” – SUZANNE KASLER
How to Do White Right
Since readers of Hello Lovely are likely all ears when it comes to secrets to using white decor, here’s what I found:
“When you do a house in neutrals and whites, one of the prettiest ways to make the rooms come alive is to play texture off texture.” -SUZANNE KASLER
For example, in a lovely breakfast room photographed for the book, we see beautiful paneled walls, window trim, and window seat trim are painted a high gloss white. Pale and natural woven shades also filter the light and add texture along with buttery chestnut hued leather upholstered seats and pillows.
