Oh, it’s about to get ridiculous, one-off, and then *BLOOP* also mystical up in here! Because planet Michele. Because post-midlife land. And because aging seems always to serve up surprises and its share of mortifying/lifegiving wonder…amen? If we keep laughing, at least we know that refillable prescription has bitchen side effects. And do forgive…the only reason I title posts of this sort #over50beauty is for traction online. In truth, beauty and skincare ideas shared here are ageless, timeless, and appropriate for all humans interested in healthier options. Are there even any undiscovered hacks left? Hahahaha. Let’s giggle and peek at Over 50 Beauty Hacks as summer collapses and autumn begins to tease.

Over 50 Beauty Hacks & Post-Midlife Humor
Hack #1: Disguise Your Skincare as Makeup
Some brands simply stand out for this hack. Iris & Romeo, for example. If you’re a makeup minimalist type sensitive to fragrance and ingredients? Their pretty potions may be a gamechanger.
Right now’s a perfect time to take them for a test drive with 17% off in celebration of Women’s Equality Day with the code EQUAL. Here’s what’s in my cart:
Why? The 58-years-young skin I live in is sun-damaged, extra sensitive and rosacea-prone. I’m almost out of my jar of Best Skin Days (I’d call it super light coverage), am dying to try their blush (because BLUUUUUUSHHHHHH…I’m an 80s girlie who needs her blush to boost a mood like magic), my brows need help, and I haven’t tried a different mascara in eons. Also considering this set:
I need a hydrating concealer for these dark circles, and my late-50s dry skin needs protection. Do not stop wearing sunscreen in September, kittens! My worst blistery sunburns happened in September sunshine here in Illinois. Love me some Weekend Skin with spf 50 and reached the bottom of my current tube.
Hack #2: Treat Your Lips to a Treatment That’s a Gloss
Could this lip treatment and gloss packed with hydrating active ingredients really work to visibly plump >50 lips and protect them with a juicy slick of color?
And what if your lips are extra dry or you hate the sting from plumpers? This is your new fav. My go-to. Who knew a comfy lip oil could deliver joy to the routine?
Hack #3: SEE the RIDICULOUS and Absurdity of Life and LAUGH
Laughter helps, divine cosmic goddesses.
One of the perks of being over 50 is learning the art of not giving an eff to things that don’t matter and suddenly realizing a new freedom to laugh at your aging self.
But back to skin matters. I am all about pampering mine. Forget about preserving youth! I’m after comfort and a less hagard appearance that won’t scare the grandfurries away. 🙂
As summer fades, I can count on September to find me with honestly the worst skin of the year. Dehydrated from sunny days, more coarse in texture, and lots of hyperpigmentation. The needs of my skin change so I treat it tenderly.
Hack #4: Collagen Spiked Coffee
Hahahaha. At least the twilight years will still offer the simple pleasure of coffee. I like this collagen in mine:
I appreciate how this supplement doesn’t contain hormones, dairy, additives, gluten or soy.
Hack #5: Seize Opportunities for Emotional and Spiritual Growth
It’s good to keep checking your emotional response to this word ‘aging.’ Does it stir up fear for you? I have my moments. Laughter helps. But so do tears.
At this week’s visit to the Japanese gardens (see pic of me with ducks at pond above), seeing an elderly gentleman taking baby-steps with a cane and help from his elderly companion moved me to tears.
I saw myself in this man…all the beauty and twilight goodness and joint stiffness and brutal bittersweetness, was a mirror.
How to hold this paradox of ‘I want to be alive like that man visiting beauty at the gardens’ and ‘I dread the idea of more loss and suffering in later years’?
I used to think to hold paradox I needed to reach a level of spiritual maturity with the help of a whole lotta grace. But right where I am, I wonder if reaching a particular level of peace or understanding is not the point at all.
Maybe assessment of how well we are holding the many paradoxes arising as modern times turn nuttier and uncertain is not the point at all.
Maybe it is much more about recognizing what is too grand to hold, about growing in humility.
Reflections on Aging, Pro-Aging, and Anti-Aging Yada Yada
When we sense bittersweetness, it’s a clue that we’re experiencing: the upside down kingdom of beauty, the complexity of paradox, and the opportunity to surrender it all to Mystery, source, and Infinite Love.
I suppose it’s the work of a lifetime to begin to really see this.
Over-50 Self-Kindness & Restful Unproductive Moments to Simply Be
Buying the proper candle or bath scrub aint gonna change our circumstances or keep stress from coming. But are there opportunities to slow down more and empty your thoughts to return to your center?
Does “unproductive” stir up fear for you?
You’re not alone if it does.
Oy.
We’re all conditioned for maximum productivity our whole lives that getting still can even feel…dare I say it? Unnatural!
But plenty of good-for-us practices feel unnatural at the beginning. We’re clumsy at first. It’s good to remind each other that slower is healthy; that self-kindness is not the same as self-centeredness.
I have already lived the feverish, hustling for my worthiness chapters. Time to savor the newness of slower.

Fall Fashion
Welly boot socks are my best friends in winter, and I wear them over bare feet around the house. If I have to step outside, I step into Ilse Jacobsen lace up rain boots (I prefer the shorter styles to the tall).
YOU: How many different makeup products do you really need, sweetpea?
me: ALL. I need options. I’m creative and blame my artistic side who loves her some art supplies.
This luxurious find from Chanel is an indulgence fosho! It qualifies as skincare though.
I continue to love and wear this on my cheeks and eylids (in shade Werk) from MILK. While pinks are tricky to wear on the eyes, this makes mine look healthier.
As you can, give yourself more opportunities to be silly and experiences that fill you with awe. Carve out a bit more time for silence and stillness. Remember that if times are hard and suffering finds you, you aren’t alone in it. There is just one suffering we’re sharing. We’re together.
Love and…
Peace to you right where you are.

I have to ask if that Oak Essentials kit is scented? I have reached out them for the answer but never received one. Sadly I am allergic to all scents.

There are items in the kit with scents – the mist has a subtle scent and the ritual oil has a buttery fragrance. The best item in the whole thing is the moisture balm which I can’t detect a fragrance, but I hear you. Everyone is different so it’s good they have a return policy.
Great information to know. Thank you!

Thanks for joining me! Have a wonderful week!
I love your thoughts and I love your humor. Michele. And as far as self-care goes… We chose to take care of things we value. Hopefully we value ourselves. So sometimes we need to be reminded that production is the purpose of machines, not humans.

So true. May we ever resist becoming those machines. Thanks so much for reading with tenderness.
