Ideas for Texture, Warmth, Character
An English country kitchen often showcases natural materials like wood and stone. Wooden beams on the ceiling add character, while stone or brick flooring provides a rustic foundation.
Wall Paint Color
Some time consuming investigative design work reveals the wall paint color in this glorious space as: PAINT & PAPER LIBRARY Leather V.
Bespoke English Country Kitchen’s Mix of Metals
Copper or brass cookware and utensils are often seen hanging from racks or hooks, creating a charming visual display while also being easily accessible.
Showstopping Arabescato Corchia Marble for Island and Backsplash
Natural stone countertops like granite or marble are commonly used in an English country kitchen. These materials add an elegant and timeless appeal to the space. Alternatively, wooden countertops, especially butcher block, can also be found, adding warmth and a rustic feel.
The Arabescato was continued on the range wall for a backsplash as well as a 4″ backsplash above counter. English country traditional tile backsplashes are often in muted colors like white, cream, or earth tones complements the overall aesthetic. Classic subway tiles, mosaic patterns, or handmade ceramic tiles with intricate designs are popular choices.
Arabescato Corchia Overview
Arabescato Corchia is a heavily brecciated polished Italian marble quarried in Stazzema, Provincia di Lucca, and Toscana with ivory clasts floating in a grey-brown background. Breccias are a naturally occurring type of sedimentary rock that occur when pre-existing rocks or minerals break up and reform, cementing together into an entirely new material.
You may also come across sources for Arabescato carrara marble such as a mosaic like this:
Appliances in this Bespoke Kitchen AGA Range Cooker
While at first glance, an AGA like this one in this magnificent deVOL kitchen may appear to have six ovens, an AGA range cooker offers just five ovens as well as a control panel.
Insulated covers and hot plates are located on top of the range, while the ovens below are for simmering, baking, and roasting. For a brilliant lesson in how a wondrous AGA works magic, treat yourself to this engaging education:
The expense of a five oven AGA for your kitchen may give you pause since the range is in the $30k range! What to do when the budget is less than bougie and closer to 30 bucks?
Hahahaha! I think a mini AGA is the perfect gift for English Country design fans!
This Cotswold Barn Kitchen in Progress
A prominent feature in an English country kitchen is a large farmhouse sink. These deep, wide sinks are usually made of porcelain or fireclay and provide a vintage and practical touch.
While fabrics often play a significant role in softening the look of an English country kitchen, we are not seeing it in this more modern interpretation. Floral or gingham-patterned curtains, vintage-inspired tablecloths, and cozy seat cushions are another way to add color, pattern, and a touch of nostalgia.
Kitchen Faucets: Aged Brass
Open shelves are a hallmark of an English country kitchen. Displaying beautiful crockery, antique dishes, and colorful pottery on open shelves adds a touch of nostalgia and a personal, lived-in feel.
Shaker Style Bespoke Kitchen Cabinetry
The cabinetry in an English country kitchen typically features solid wood construction. Traditional Shaker-style cabinets with paneling or raised panels are popular choices. They are often painted in soft, muted colors such as cream, sage green, or pale blue, creating a light and airy feel.
The color on the cabinets is likely a custom color from deVOL, but it is reminiscent of Farrow & Ball’s Old White:
Bar Sink Station With Open Shelving
English country kitchens are often adorned with charming decorative accents that can be pulled into service such as china, kitchen tools, baskets of fresh produce, and potted herbs. These accents can be displayed on shelves to bring function, life and personality to the space.
Copper Pots Hang from a Rail
Why is copper cookware pricey and timeless? It allows for precise temperature control, especially when combined with other materials like stainless steel or tin linings. The ability to adjust the heat with precision is crucial for tasks like caramelization or preparing delicate sauces.
Then there’s the aesthetic appeal of copper. Copper pots and pans are known for their beautiful, classic appearance. The warm, reddish-brown hue of copper adds elegance and visual appeal to any kitchen.
Natural Woven Pendant Lighting
Adequate lighting is essential in an English country kitchen. Pendant lights with glass or metal shades, wrought-iron chandeliers, or vintage-inspired fixtures are commonly used. Soft, warm lighting enhances the cozy ambiance.

Love, love Devol kitchens! When remodeling my kitchen (earlier this year) I used Shaker style cabinet door fronts on all lower cabinets and flats fronts on upper drawers as in the Devol kitchens. I do feel it is classic & timeless. I did go with stainless steel appliances but I’m not completely happy with the up keep. It shows every hand print and smudge and that’s not even when I’ve been cooking on the stove top…lol! I wanted a Lacanche stove and a Sub Zero Fridge w/ custom cabin door fronts but the cost was prohibitive since I was removing three walls to enlarge the kitchen.

Your kitchen sounds beautiful – I do love that look of the slab drawer front. Stainless does come with all those fingerprint issues, doesn’t it? I chose smudgeproof stainless from Kitchenaid for the Arizona kitchen, and what a difference! I hope they keep making that stuff because it was so much dreamier to maintain, and I’m a sucker for sleek appliance handles and Kitchenaid wowed me with those too. There’s a Lacanche and a French farmhouse in my dreams, and it’s okay if they stay there since my imagination is always a heartbeat away. 🙂
