It’s a look that is growing in popularity, so should you worry that it’s too trendy? Not necessarily. After all, a Clean Modernist Aesthetic With Neutrals draws upon timeless design elements. It works swimmingly with Midcentury-modern, relaxed sophistication, livable luxe, and California cool decorated rooms. While I am partial to modern French and European country inspired interiors, I love this modern eclectic look. Neutral color palettes, tone on tone, and classic black and white schemes can be interpreted uniquely across a number of design styles as you’ll see in this collection.

Athena Calderone Designed Furniture
Modern Euro chic style from author and influencer Athena Calderone is now a look you can get at Crate and Barrel.
I’m crazy about the above upholstered Revival Headboard! Certain art pieces from Athena’s collection have been reproduced. For example, this Solace Art Print by Aliyah Sadaf:
The curvy pieces in the living room feel modern yet retro…

There is so much serenity within Athena’s beautiful home:
The accessories designed by Calderone for Crate & Barrel are also breathtaking:
The dining table above is topped with travertine marble.
Do you love the warmth of the flooring, velvet chair and artwork?
These centerpiece bowls are genius for any dining table or kitchen island!
Just imagine all of the different seasonal produce and possibilities!
Modernist Pieces from Athena Calderone
I fell in love with these counter stools, but they sold out before I could even consider them:
They look sooooo comfy, and I plan to check them out in person. Here’s a piece that is versatile enough to work in a range of different rooms.
It doesn’t scream “bar” or “cart” so it could be beautiful and functional anywhere.
Isn’t the neutral color story beautiful, calm, and natural?
I love the tone of the light wood pieces. And maybe my favorite piece in the whole collection?
This amazing vase! How gorgeous for an entry!
Neutrals & Natural in My Own Home
This bonus room in our former home featured a mix of traditional and modern neutrals.
Leanne Ford’s Way With Neutrals & Clean Aesthetic
If you like the rustic side of luxe modern, you will love her style!
This bed designed by Leanne Ford could make a bold statement:
Leanne Ford’s rooms look relaxed and non-contrived.
Here’s the thing. I couldn’t stop at inspiration for just interiors!
Remember when no one dared paint brick exteriors? My mama has excellent taste and was way ahead of her time though. So in the 80s when I was in grad school, she painted their brick ranch a gentle greyed-white, and her neighbors (in Kansas) lost their minds! Hahahahaha.
Are you more of a black as an accent person?
In Case You Love Luxe Modern Rustic
If a modern rustic look is your favorite design style, then neutrals with black and white work brilliantly.
When you turn up the volume on texture, magic starts to happen. I mean, look at the shaggy pillow and the boucle you can sort of see on the wing chair in this room designed by MDP. This was years ago, and you can’t scroll anywhere at the moment without a barrage of boucle smacking you in the eyeballs.
Oh, Michael, the nubby deliciousness and triumphant cobalt oval ooh la la of it all…
How would one ever find the strength to rise from a sherpa sofa so sumptuous!!!???

In Case You Love Rustic Luxe and Modern With Your Black and White
Do you like this table Leanne Ford designed (below) with its plaster-like appearance? There’s also a larger pedestal table version of Willy which is perfect for entries or intimate dining.

Decorating Finds Friendly With Black
The very first kitchen chairs I ever purchased for myself were Marcel Breuer Cesca chairs for my first apartment as a freshman in college. I was 18 and over the moon to find them at a garage sale.
Peace to you right where you are.

So much gracious goodness here…the Calderone video & the calm she creates (I may or may not try to create an art piece with a cutout like hers above), your bonus room in your former house (probably my fav room in that home!!), and anything Leanne Ford (just finished her book “Work in Progress” last night…a fantastic read on life and design …you’d love it!!) Hope you have a lovely week, Michele!

I love that art piece, and it’s perfect for duplicating! I reviewed Leanne’s book quite awhile ago – blogging has its perks since they send books before they release! I think Leanne and Steve grew up the way I did – summer church camp was a huge influence for me. I am getting ready to make a FB Marketplace drive to another state for an antique I am hoping will work here. It takes time to get the right pieces as you know. Wish me luck. 🙂
Can’t wait to see you’re new treasure!

I think it is going to work! FB Marketplace is incredible. We not only reaped a treasure, but we discovered a charming town that is straight out of Switzerland a little more than an hour away. The colorful turning leaves were breathtaking as we traveled country roads, and when we arrived at the historic limestone’s property, our senses were already full! 🙂
