Blue and White Kitchen Decor Inspiration {40 Ideas}
I have a little experience with blue and white decor at home, but you have to venture back into our home history. In our first home in Elmhurst, Illinois, we gutted a tiny 1920’s kitchen and created a navy blue and white kitchen we found charming and beyond cozy.
Many years later we bought a second home and chose a tranquil blue grey for the painted cabinets along with plenty of creamy white.
Even when you decide on a blue kitchen, there are so many possibilities with the range of color options!

Here’s one of my favorite Roy Orbison songs mentioning the color of the day and easing my mind back to a simpler time…if you don’t have time to listen to her whole performance, definitely don’t miss the gorgeous vocal moment at 4:00!
But I also love this bluesy blue song which I listened to on repeat in my angsty teen years…

These blue and white kitchens provide miles of inspiration beyond the beautiful color palette. You’ll find ideas for kitchen islands, kitchen pendants, beamed ceilings, tile flooring, kitchen sinks, and much more.

Memorable F&B Light Blue Kitchen
So many readers have emailed me to ask about where they might find blue grey plates like the ones here:
But the designer says she has never seen the vintage examples anywhere else.
It’s important to try a sample of paint first. This F&B Light Blue is actually very blue-green, and with strong natural sunlight may strike you as green.
And if you’re after a chalky light blue, look at the section of grey swatches – otherwise you may end up with the dreaded “baby’s room cloying factor.”
Two-tone Blue Kitchen
I haven’t seen too many two-tone kitchens where navy is used with a light wood rather than a bright white.
deVOL uses color so intelligently, and blue is no exception.

I’m so fond of how this blue and white works with linen tones in the window shade and woven stools.

According to color psychology, “Blue is a color that suggests peace. It’s the color of the calm sea and the clear sky, both of which are linked to inner serenity, calm and clarity. Blue was also shown to slow heart rate and breathing, so it can be a good color to aid in meditation or relaxation. Blue is associated with intelligence. It has been proven that different shades of blue can improve concentration, stimulate thinking and provide mental clarity. It also improves productivity. This is a good color for study and work, as it offers relaxation and stimulation at the same time.”
How is blue different from red? “

Blue is a color that is linked with confidence. Unlike red, which shows aggressive dominance, blue is related to a calm authority.
Blue inspires trust, it is non-threatening and shows persistence.”
Ever considered the relationship of the color blue and emotion? “
Another characteristic of blue is that it is not a very emotional color. It can be described as aloof or snobbish.
Just as it is associated with intelligence, it can be associated with being cold and rational to a point of showing little emotion.”
Here’s a banquette covered in blue and white stripes:
And wouldn’t this also be a cozy nook in which to gather?
I also learned from color psychology research how blue is an unappetizing color which is curious since so many folks love blue in the kitchen! Is blue kitchen decor for people who are watching their portions or maybe attractive to folks who don’t do a lot of cooking? Food for thought.

Good morning, Sherry! I’m so glad you stopped by. Stay warm! 🙂
I have a blue and white kitchen, too! Actually, the shell is almond, both upper wall paint and subway tile, as well as onyx counter tops, but Blue Willow dishes and a deep blue French soup pot fool the eye into seeing a blue and white kitchen. Next step would have been to paint the cabinets white or deep blue but for the fact we’re getting ready to put the house on the market. Next place?

How I love blue willow dishes! They bring back all sorts of warm nostalgia from my childhood and my Swedish gram who served us Swedish pancakes on them. That’s exciting stuff since you’re gearing up for a move…can’t wait to hear more along your journey. xox
You’ve got some dreamy kitchens here. I’ve never been a blue kitchen person. But the variety of blues available now vs in the 1970’s is enough to change my mind. I’m loving the new navy & gold theme.
Thanks for sharing.

It’s funny you mention a green kitchen – I’m toying with the idea for a tiny home I’m buying (shhhhhh – no one else knows I’m buying a tiny home for a rental property!). The cabinets in it are dark brown, and of course, my first thought is always white! Happy weekend, Spain!
be brave ….paint it green even the kitchen is tiny I am very sure it will look good when you paint the wall in the same color….moody, cozy. b.t.w. worked with my 6th sence and my 3rd eye….shhhh

I’m all over the place with my paint color ideas for the cabinets – I think it will become clearer when we close on the house this week and I can spend some time in the space letting it whisper. You’re fabulous btw. That is all.
We remodeled our kitchen and I selected navy blue cabinets (top and bottom) with a mosaic tile from counter top to ceiling. I also had a picture window from counter top over farm house sink … the walls are pale grey. Polished nickel bridge faucet with lighting fixtures also with polished nickel. I wanted to enter the east facing kitchen (summer and winter) and still feel peaceful and cool or warm. The contractor said he was the most proud of his work on our kitchen … everyone is stunned and I have yet to tire of it. — Thank you for sharing the type of tile you used for your beautiful kitchen.
