This week we toured a very special property in Palmetto Bluff, South Carolina known as Duck Crossing with coastal cottage interior design by Lisa Furey. Modern Coastal Cottage Interior Design Inspiration highlights my favorite design elements and decor from the project which is a celebration of coastal best friends: blue and white. This compound even inspired a mood board with ideas to get the look of a coastal cottage kitchen.

Modern Coastal Cottage Interior Design Inspiration
What’s up with all the coastal fever on Hello Lovely? I am clearly in ENDLESS SUMMER mode, so bring it on, mama! Onward with inspiration from lakeside cabins, fantasy beach houses, and cozy bungalows by the sea since they all suggest a slower pace, peaceful unplugged time, and a restful atmosphere.

Kitchens Gone Coastal
Ever dreamed of designing a coastal cottage kitchen? My own kitchen is very much in this spirit and features white oak hardwood flooring, Benjamin Moore White painted walls and beadboard, a fireclay apron front sink, bridge faucet, and, well, you get the idea.

I created the mood board (below) for you to consider and pin to your kitchen boards. You’ll notice the color palette is not blue and white like the South Carolina inspiration kitchen, but more in keeping with my own kitchen: neutral with light grey, white and black. Light wood tones warm the mood along with a mix of metals (but not too many!) as well as nautical (yet not kitschy) nods.

Psssst. Is anyone springing for the fantasy La Cornue range on my board? Hey. When a girl needs another pop of black and the warmth of gold on her coastal cottage kitchen mood board, she may as well shoot the moon! Here’s another dreamy range with a friendlier price point than the La Cornue.

Back to bizness.
And blue and white blissfulness.
Sigh.
Blue Paint Color Ideas

The wall color in this powder bath may be BM Andes Summit (maybe just the lighting making it look different?) since the designer used that blue elsewhere. However, in this photo the blue appears more muted and similar to a color used in our prior home for a coastal bath: BEHR Deep Shale:

Indigo Pillows to Love

I searched for the fabric used for these custom pillows and found it for you…yay! It’s called Andromeda Japanese Style linen in indigo from Schumacher. I have had lots of custom pillows created by sewers on Etsy, and here are some possibilities in case you love the look:

Omg, have you seen the selection of classic white bedding at Serena & Lily???? Prepare to be killed directly in the face, and don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Pine Cone Hill Bedding
The designer chose bedding from Pine Cone Hill, and my experience with this brand is all positive…I have relied on Pine Cone Hill for years now for curtains, bedding, pillows, and fabric. Designer Annie Selke is one of my design heroes!

Cottage Entry’s Beautiful Built-in

One of my favorite design elements in this beautiful main house? The blue painted built-in, conveniently located near the front door. I think I’d rather have a smart and attractive piece like this for storage than a larger closet with awful bifold doors (which is what I’m currently living with).
I also love the timeless style of the bench designer Lisa Furey chose for the entryway. It could go in any number of spaces, and I can imagine designing a bedroom or dining room around the piece!

I love a coastal look , especially when its not “themed” . Do you have any idea what color the wall is painted in the picture with the pedestal sink ? It’s a kind of blue gray. We are painting my husband’s office – it already has white board and batten about 1/3 way up and we are looking for a nautical blue gray that’s not too dark ( the office is in an attic bedroom with only one dormer window).
Thanks for sharing

I think it very well may be BM Andes Summit since the designer stayed rather consistent with her colors, and this powder bath is likely in the main house where she used the color on a built-in in the entry. But that color is a true blue without grey. Photography and editing can make colors appear slightly different so bear that in mind. If you are after a blue-grey, then I would definitely steer you toward greys and not blues. Even if the paint swatch says grey – it could easily read blue grey with the blue undertones of the color. You might like what we painted our powder room in our prior home: https://rstyle.me/+zAK_C7sjvuyQlSjDn4cHng It’s Behr Deep Shale, and I loved its sophistication. I never changed it which says something. There was no natural light in that bath btw. I also had a pedestal sink in the space and white trim. See what you think!
Love the Deep Shale . I think it’s got a moody nautical look that would work well with the right white board and batten. You are a jewel!

I so agree. Thank so much for reading and taking time to let me know. 🙂
Hello, for information. I have identical indigo cushions to those featured which I bought from Ikea at a very reasonable price, looking lovely on my white sofas. Best wishes, Sue.
