It is royally enjoying its moment, and why shouldn’t it? Wallpapered interiors mosey in and out of fashion and are one of those trends homeowners adore. Except when they don’t. Whether your style is traditional or not, there are timeless wallpaper ideas with color, florals, patterns, prints, and textures to bring dimension and unique charm to your space.

Timeless Wallpaper Ideas: Interiors to Inspire
Let’s start with possibly my favorite wallpapered interior in this whole gallery. It’s in a dining room you can tour at around the 51 minute mark in this video:
Isn’t that Gracie chinoiserie style wallpaper amazing? And isn’t it easy to see why the homeowner would create a wedding cake inspired by it?

Smaller Expanses of Beautifully Timeless Wallpaper
Those hand-painted high end papers can cost a fortune, and I admire how some folks think creatively beyond walls. Remember how the Giannettis used Gracie panels?

Television concealment is still controversial within design, and it’s a personal matter. What a smart example of enjoying a gorgeous, classic, timeless pattern in a prominent place! (See more of Patina Farm here.) Lining a wardrobe is also genius:
Don’t you love that Pimpernel pattern? You could also wallpaper a closet if it isn’t needed for storage…

Here are some pretty possibilities if you’re in the mood for for greens and blues:

Start By Wallpapering a Powder Bath
If you’re not sure about committing to a whole room of wallpaper or a wallpapered statement wall, a powder bath may be a great place to experiment.
Since these baths tend to be small, the risk and investment are also smaller.

One of the more strategic ways to cope with (or celebrate, depending on perspective) quirky architecture? Wallpaper!

When the eye focuses on pattern, other design elements recede.

If a room lacks architectural interest and feels boxy, wallpaper pattern can deliver.
While there aren’t many modern wallpaper options in this round-up, they too are amazing in traditional settings.

Ever papered a bath? We have done it a few times with no issues, but proper assessment and ventilation should be addressed first.

Patterns Inspired by Nature
Traditional style continues to trend, and renters and homeowners alike are more comfortable with whimsical decorating moves to create a mood.
Knowing what makes you personnally feel energized or relaxed is everything when it comes to choosing a color scheme and particular pattern.

Colorful patterns inspired by florals, landscapes, creatures, and nature can be introduced in bedrooms and beyond.

Start with a search of your favorite color and be prepared for the range of beautiful possibilities!

In fact, a favorite wallpaper pattern may inspire your whole color story or vision for a room or a home.

Timelessly Elegant Nature Inspired Wallpaper Patterns
Certain patterns never grow old.

Remember how how our friend Kathy Sue used the delft blue with gorgeous gilded lighting?

Understated Color & Depth from Wallpaper
We all vary in tolerance for color, and for some, there’s always a place for bold color at home. For others, understated color options feel right.

Again, self-awareness is key. Which colorways or patterns never get old for you? It’s important to know!
If you aren’t sure, it’s important to sample and take time to live with it.
I have lived with assorted wallpaper patterns in different homes over the years. As a child, we moved often, and my parents were fond of decorating and customizing each home.

Wallpaper remains a formidable design element to customize looks no one else will have. Even when certain patterns rise in popularity, they feel distinct with varying contexts.

I selected a scenic tree landscape wallpaper in a guest bedroom at our former home and loved it enough to put in our current foyer.

Completely different contexts, lighting, and decor. Here it was in a bedroom:

And now, as a statement in the foyer:

I still love it and found the mural to be an easy DIY! The made in Sweden quality (Photowall) is top notch. This holiday showhouse entry is similar to our own:

What Inspires Our Choices?
Say what you will about social media (it brings disconnection and distraction along with help), it has eased searches for wallpaper patterns and paint colors with simple hashtag searches!

It helps to see a large expanse when influencers and designers post images.
That said, it may also be shocking to discover a particular mural or handpainted paper is astronomical in price. While I love de Gournay, it is for champagne budgets.
Oh those de Gournay pinks!

But you can’t go wrong with their greens:

The above example illustrates how wallpaper becomes integral to a design. It literally draws you deeper into the space after the greeting smile of that checkered floor.

Ever wonder how de Gournay designs come to life? No need to wonder:
When You Love a Tonal Look
These wallcoverings in an amazing Paris hotel my husband and I stumbled upon definitely left an impression.

Here’s another suite in Pavillon de la Reine:

No wonder I love our grisaille wallpapers (I chose a different pattern in the same colorway for to accent a guest bedroom).

But if you’re not into neutrals and opt to be bold…
Who says a tiny kitchen can’t live large and dramatic? Wow!
Wallpaper patterns can be powerful as the backdrop for memories. Agree? That blue kitchen is bound to leave an impression. If you grew up with a particular floral pattern on your childhood bedroom walls or in your grandmother’s dining room wallpaper…these memories are strengthened by the visual.

If you’re not sure where to start as far as pattern, consider your favorite style. Let’s say you love a French Nordic look…how about a pretty Swedish paper?

Peace to you right where you are.
