By now, every Francophile on social media has surely admired this breathtakingly restored 18th Century Provence property Le Mas des Poiriers. It has been photographed by the most talented artists around the globe for weddings and editorial coverage. Did you see its story in Veranda perhaps? The Provençal French farmhouse Le Mas Des Poiriers, aka Shauna Varvel’s dream home (author of PROVENCE STYLE) is overflowing with French country inspiration to admire.
This grand 65 acre estate was renovated by an American family to enjoy for holidays and also to offer as a wedding venue and weekly rentals.

French Country Kitchen Design Inspiration
What a divine lesson in color theory awaits! Creamy plaster with light blue, copper, and the warmth of stone? Oui, s’il vous plait.
You’ll love finding inspiration from the lovely Le Mas des Poiriers on Instagram here!
English translation of Le Mas Des Poieriers? The Pear Trees Farmhouse.
Don’t you love how the warmth of the stone floor, copper pots, and wood counter balance the coolness of the blue? The swatches of Light Blue 22 online and elsewhere are a bit misleading. When I brought a sample pot home, it was actually quite green in the light of my own kitchen. This swatch looks grey:
And in this Provence kitchen, it looks…perfectly light blue. So we have to wonder if perhaps the saturation was tweaked. We might also be reminded that the quality of light varies from region to region! Which is why we must sample and then adjust from there.
Bear in mind too, that this is a real working kitchen. It wasn’t designed to simply look pretty for instagram feeds. Chefs create real magic for real hungry humans here.
Isn’t the refined hardware on cabinetry beautiful along with furniture-like finishing details on base cabinets?
You can’t miss the whimsical, charming, French detail of the curved detail near crown molding:
Why in the world aren’t we adding such artistically elevated touches to more of our custom kitchen designs?
I’m also smitten with how the upper cupboards are open and feel unique and timeless:
There’s a balance of simplicity and elegance that demands careful consideration, craftsmanship, and creativity.
French Country Paradise Orangery
The ceiling height! The stone and windows and lighting!
It was important to homeowner, Shauna Varvel, that the finishes in the renovation be traditional. Thus, Dordogne stone floors cover the main level while reclaimed antique terracotta floors grace the upper level.
The scale of various design elements and rooms at this property is mind-blowing, and what I think I admire most is how livable the luxury remains. Even in this lofty magnificent sunny space, I can imagine feeling quite comfy!
Blue Plate Wall in Dining Room
Americans continue to have a love affair with blue and white for their homes, and here’s an inspiring moment that works in a variety of home styles.
If you love traditional style and collections of china, your imagination may be running wild at this juncture.
Provence Poiriers Gardens
This enchantingly old yet newly re-designed property includes 65 acres of a working farm with pears as well as sunflowers! Doesn’t a pear orchard raise to yet another level of special?
Since the property has been photographed so much over the years, you’ll see various stages of evolution of the exterior, gardens, landscape, and outdoor living areas.
Is there anything like the light in the South of France?
How playful and memorable are the topiaries?
I do believe I could get used to #provencelife quite easily and could be happy in the guest house, staff quarters, or chicken coop barn on a property like this!
The sunny stone is something I don’t see in my neck of the woods, and when it is this weathered from hundreds of years? Mmmmmmmm, PATINA. The patina is talkin!
No matter how many images of the guest house I have seen over the years, it doesn’t get old. My heartstrings are tugged. It’s the stuff of fairytales.
French Country Fantasy Bedrooms
Forget modern touches and clues about the 21st century. These rooms are full of timeless happiness.
I suppose if you don’t love all things French, the color stories and motifs may not strike you as joyous, but for my eyes?
This aesthetic captures the coziest opulence and livable luxury I can imagine.
Bespoke Bathrooms in a Provencal Paradise
I can imagine these renovated bathrooms will feel as relevant and beautiful decades from now as they do this minute.
And isn’t that the point when your goal is timeless and tranquil? Look at these mirrors!
And isn’t it funny that certain timeless design elements suddenly trend in the marketplace even though they never fall from favor? Gingham and checks, anyone?
Those terracotta hex tiles with their varying warm tones are so purely French farmhouse!
Traditional French Style in a Modern Laundry Room
Don’t even get me started on how this space puts our American laundry rooms to shame!
Don’t you think we need a revolution so that family members fight over who gets to spend time in the sunny space that smells heavenly?
