Belgian Linen, European Grainsacks & Turkish Linens
Summer Essentials: Turkish Towels
These lightweight, versatile, natural and charcoal stripe Koressos Peshmetal Turkish Towels from new to me brand THRIAE are close to perfect for summer living because they LIVE SO LARGE.
And don’t we love it when decor is doubly good to us…attractive AND practical? Turkish towels from Thriae obviously make ideal beach towels (they dry so quickly!):
But they will also serve you well for sarongs, scarves, picnic blankets,
Psst. I’m pro-aging, yet I don’t always want this aging neck on full display, a linen this soft and versatile becomes a good friend. 🙂
I’m always saying that my favorite way to live with “whites” is to mix them (warm and cool tones) and not worry about matching.
And here’s an example of how the natural tone of these Turkish towels is neutral enough to blend with everything.
Why yes, it functions beautifully as a Turkish tablecloth!
And when the weather cools in the evening or later in the fall, they are just right for shivery shoulders when dining outdoors.
Our sweet secret French courtyard is just taking shape. You may remember before pics before we added the pea gravel. Covering the buckled, broken cement underneath really delivered a clean base, and I painted my old iron dining set as well as…
this old castoff furniture which has seen better days but will make it through another season. 🙂 Which brings me to yet another use for these good looking linens from THRIAE…instantly revive shabby outdoor patio furniture to freshen their worn condition!
European Vintage Grainsacks
Don’t you love collecting them!?!
The very old German one on my former dining table is from A Beautiful Mess Home in Agoura, CA.
I have used it for decoration in various ways in various homes, and it would be beautiful framed and hung on the wall as well. Sometimes I use them to make pillow covers, and the authentic French examples below were scored from a seller in France on Etsy.
Sometimes reproduction grainsacks can pass for the real thing. I’m fairly sure these pillows from RH purchased many years ago are reproduction:
Their nubby texture is divine!
Here’s a custom pillow made from grainsack with a cobalt blue stripe found on Etsy. The neutral tones means it works everywhere, indoors and out. It has been washed countless times and only improves.
Belgian Linen Love Affair at Home
Maybe you have noticed over the past decade and a half my slight obsession with linen. I know obsession may be the most over-used term in the history of blogs and influencer-land (ha!)… my affinity is clearly strong.
Belgian linen? I’m over the Belgian moon.
Our Belgian linen (sand) dining chairs from RH are still lovely in spite of daily abuse from a variety of humans and creatures.
As you browse these linen chairs, benches, and seating options below, make sure you read the full descriptions of all things marketed as linen.
Sometimes “linen” is used as a descriptive term for linen blends or upholstery that happens to be dyed a linen color.

Some folks may be nervous about placing linen dining chairs in a breakfast dining area, but we have been using these since our kids were in their young teens. The occasional spill happens, and we spot clean…even red wine!
I didn’t even know a piece like this existed until I began my research for this post!
