More goodness ahead with Nancy Meyers movie sets continued from Part One right here. We explored Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, and The Holiday in the first installment so make sure you peek at it. Today, we’re moving on to HOME AGAIN and THE INTERN as well as some pretty spaces that remind me of Nancy Meyer’s aesthetic. Whether you’are a coastal granny or new to all things breezy and beachy, I hope the resources and ideas shared here help you with your own projects at home.

Capture the Chic of Nancy Meyers Movie Sets
I’m not at all suggesting we can transform our spaces into Nancy Meyers level interiors. Movie sets are make believe, kittens. As a real life renovator, I am firmly planted in the grit of the real. But I’m also a visionary who sees the possible. We’ll look closer at her choices and allow them to influence ours.
HOME AGAIN Movie Sets
I will never tire of studying these spaces in HOME AGAIN!
Remember how feminine, optimistic, and breezy they were for Reese Witherspoon’s interior designer character Alice?
Neutral backdrops layered with happy blues and pinks feel classic, timeless, and comfortable.
The original features of the Spanish style cottage didn’t hurt, and you may know that this house had some famous inhabitants including Cindy Crawford and Ben Affleck.
Psst. Cindy is from Illinois, and I was in college with her and lived in the same dorm. True! Our paths didn’t cross, but one of my best college pals was her lab partner in Chemistry class.
Back to dishing about all things heavenly Home Again…Lots of Belgian linen which I love along with plenty of bohemian touches.
Who wouldn’t be thrilled to move into the guest house?
Capturing a Breezy California Cool Look
I found Alice’s bedroom to be a bit underwhelming, but then again, since she is an interior designer, maybe that makes sense.
So many designers immersed in colors and patterns daily choose to simplify in their restful spaces at home.
California cool and casual relies on sumptuous textures and a fuss-free attitude.
It’s a far cry from so many of the tidier, buttoned-up serious, European inspired classic and moody rooms we see trending on social media.
Can you feel the artistic childlike wonder, hopefulness, and positivity in these glimpses?
While chic, it is clear that it’s a family home where nothing is hands off. Do you love the bronze sconces above and below?
Here’s a well-made, traditional and timeless option that would be beautiful in a variety of homes:
The dining area in the kitchen was also unfussy and casual. Wishbone dining chairs surround a light toned wood table where colorful china can shine.
I also loved the blue tile backsplash and simplicity of little pots of herbs in the sunny window.
Psst. There’s that sconce again we saw in Alice’s office, and hall. If at all possible, add them everywhere for cozy ambient lighting at night.
THE INTERN Brooklyn Kitchen (Nancy Meyers Movie Sets)
Lots of Americans were just beginning to lose themselves in a modern farmhouse trance back in 2015 when this Brooklyn kitchen imagined by Nancy Meyers’ starred in The Intern.
One of her gifts is creating these beautiful spaces that don’t feel contrived. The materials may be high end, but together, it feels very approachable. I gutted my own kitchen in our former fixer in 2015 and opted for modern farmhouse-friendly subway tile, white quartz counters, and farm sink.
I loved the farm sink so much that I made sure to incorporate one in my next kitchen renovation in 2022 where I was after a more traditional look:
But let’s get back to Brooklyn!
There were some edgier Midcentury modern touches in this home such as the Sputnik pendant in the dining room, mismatched chairs, and modern dining table.
Floating shelves and industrial style lighting was still newish almost a decade ago, and maybe most surprising was how country kitchen design was permeating urban settings.
That arched detail around the range hood is one worth saving! I can imagine it working in any number of kitchens where you want to introduce a curve alongside so much linear interest. Somehow the subway tile inside that arched backsplash feels like exposed original brick.
A fireplace in the kitchen is a dreamy von dreamy concept in itself. But an old surround as beautiful as this one? It would sell the house on its own.
Crushing on the blue-grey color of the cabinets and trim? Here are some ideas to sample.
Mid-Tone Blue Gray Paint Color
When you’re searching for the perfect paint color for your project, remember that it may not have “blue” or “gray” in the name.
Also, sometimes if blue is in the name, it could be the just right gray you’re after.
And I know I have told you this a million times, but if you are seeking a blue paint, you’re probably going to be looking in the gray range for the perfect choice. Have I scared you about your search? Hahahaha. No worries at all…just dig in my archives for a ton of help.
Learn the Look: Coastal Classic Nancy Meyers Kitchen
This kitchenette in a coastal cottage I admire has a Nancy Meyers aesthetic too:
White Accents for a Coastal Interior
Kitchen Reminiscent of Nancy Meyers Style
I bet Nancy would approve of this modern farmhouse meets coastal kitchen in the main house as well:
Oui, you DO need the requisite bowl of fresh fruit on the counter…
and plenty of subway tile!
Methinks we need another post devoted to coastal breakfast nooks!
Curious about Nancy Meyers’ own home? See it HERE.
Make sure you take a moment to be inspired by more movie sets (like the ITS COMPLICATED KITCHEN below) in Part One right here.
Peace to you right where you are.
