Christmas is nearing, and trials and triumphs of 2023 may begin to wash over us when we reflect on the year. It can be a sacred time for sure. But sacred time can also feel too heavy. It’s natural to clutter it with holiday noise. Here is a space for pause. Meditative moments from home and prayerful whispers beneath the noise await you.
Meditative Christmas Moments & Prayerful Whispers
Oh that we might inhale deep peace not on another day when all of the things are done, but just now…right where we are in our busy-ness, in our rush. May we remember and inhale the beauty that has been ours this year and exhale gentle mercy.
Where uncertainty and anxiety hide within, may we direct light to those hidden corners. Light from where? Light arriving from beyond us, from the kindness of a stranger, from a kitten’s purr. Oh look…there’s light! It’s there! Oh that we might trust and sense the mysterious realm holding us, sustaining us in all things…even as we are protected from nothing.
May we acknowledge the ways we have grown cynical and bitter and then offer them to be recycled into majesty. What do I know about majesty? I’m not terribly well read or bred. I simply write from a spirit of unknowing. But I recognize majesty. It was there with a rabbi born in Bethlehem. In that shepherd’s finger pointing to the Father. Pointing to a kingdom that is a place of consciousness, not land. Pointing to LOVE flowing then, flowing now.
Call it Christmas magic or blessing or holiness, call it a leap of faith or surrender to Mystery…but oh, friends, life is short, claim the majesty as YOURS.
Wherever this finds you, I hope you will sense these whispers penetrate precious places in your soul that can never be harmed. It’s where the best of you lives.
Has it been a rough 2023? If hopelessness is near, here is a moment to seek the grace to hope once again.
My soul is tenderly awake as I consider our capacity to become containers of lifegiving hope, to become Bethlehem where something new may be born.
There is so much war, so much inequity and disconnect around the earth. WHERE IS THE LIGHT? How can healing happen with so much to mend?
I don’t know. I don’t know. Still I pray…
Holy, Holy Maker of things lovely and things good, fill my heart so soft and prone to suffering, with the sacred light of the angels.
Oh, Gentle Shepherd, see your lambs! See your lambs!
Help us rise, oh Lord, to become better reflections of your radiant love. Our worlds are filling with longing, with confusion.
Be magnified in us.
As we move through mixed emotions, daily problems, and interpersonal complexity, guide our choices and lead us back to the everlasting.
Oh, Father, may we draw strength from the infinite depths of your trustworthy energy.
Thank you for dwelling in everything that is.
Thank you for planting a divine spark in us all.
Holy Light, this Christmas, come warm the corners of our souls.
May we find and follow that star.
Amen.
Amen?
Love at the Heart of Christmas
Peace to you right where you are.

Thank you!!! I woke up at 4:30 am and this was just what I needed in these quiet moments. I need to strive, as you say, to do this in the busy moments as well. A good reminder to look back on this year and see at the blessings that surround me everyday, even though I fail so often to see them, and to let last year show me ways to meet the new year making some changes. Love that “the kingdom is a place of consciousness”. The battle is so often in our minds. Wishing you a blessed Christmas and New Year.

Thanks for joining me and for the blessings. Happy Christmas and may the New Year bring more wonder and mercy to you and yours.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful song and devotional. It’s been a rough few months here and we’ve had big life transitions with our youngest off to college, son and his family out of state, spouse dealing with major health changes; this was what I needed today. The time and self reflection reminded me of what I love about this time of year the most: the quiet moments sharing time and love with my family.
I shared the song with my 4 sisters who will love it as much as I did! I recommended Kleenex ❤️
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
