Is it goblins, gobble-gobble-gobble, or a little Christmas that you need right this very minute? Because as I begin to see “START PREPPING NOW” messages, my evolved, spiritually enlightened self often thinks: worry ’bout yerself, sunshine. 🙂 Personally, I am quite content to allow this present “maple tree gazing & weekly apple crisp baking” phase to stretch wide. But December has a way of just POOF appearing. While I’m ready to consume Thanksgiving dinner, a wave of panic occasionally arises when I think about preparations. (Gluten-free, low-fat, and vegan, oh my!). So today we breathe, we laugh. Quirky tweets, holiday humor, and ridiculousness are here along with unexpected, uncommon, and random gift ideas. Pin the boards for future reference! Common thread running through gifting randomness? I’d be tickled to receive ’em.
Quirky Tweets, Ridiculous Quotes & Fun Gifts
Are there days when you just know you need to unplug all the devices and plug into joy, laughter, and the lighter side of life?
I independently selected products in this post—if you buy from one of my links, I may earn a commission.
Because I understand those days well. Life can grow so lifey. Evil exists. Information overload is a clear and present danger to us all.
And we so often forget what good medicine laughter is!
While I don’t use X (formerly known as Twitter) or peek at it very often, it’s where I turn when I need up-to-the-minute humor from twisted minds and sarcastic types who see life from the far side.
Humor is something so precious.
Laughter stimulates the motor cortex, the limbic system and the frontal lobe!
Laughter activates and relieves your stress response.
Laughter can stimulate circulation and relax muscles.
And since it increases your intake of oxygen, your heart and lungs are helped by laughter too.
Believe it or not, the Mayo Clinic says “positive thoughts can actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.” Even though we all know this, I think we forget that WE NEVER HAVE TO WAIT FOR POSITIVE CIRCUMSTANCES TO ARRIVE IN ORDER TO FILL UP WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS.
Makes me think about the mechanisms underlying HOPE as well. (I shared hope quotes in this.) When we laugh, our bodies are producing natural painkillers.
You truly are taking good care of yourself when you choose to laugh because you are fighting more potentially serious illnesses.
And not just for the short term!
Laughter is good medicine for the long haul too.
One of the ways humor and laughter help us long-term? They help us connect with people.
I just texted this tweet to our son who is a trial attorney, and it made him lol immediately:
There are so many ways even the most loving, well-meaning people can become divided. In homes, in families, in communities. Such division is now felt by all of us and bears such serious consequences.
We simply must be more intentional and creative to reconnect and unite as humans.
And we don’t have to be comedians or uncommonly clever to allow humor to become a bridge.
Find funny youTubes or Twitter accounts or books that speak your humor love language.
Allow yourself to feel buoyant as your brain is tickled. Share what makes you laugh the hardest with your friends and family in person or on the phone.
Feel the warmth that arises from laughing with each other. Know that this shared connection is not frivolous or a small thing.
These bonds create healing and light. You’re healing each other, freeing each other from what binds, and charging the air with loving energy…
My husband showed me this because it perfectly reflects the ridiculous stuff that happens in our own home:
I’m off to laugh more!
Peace to you right where you are.
