My own bedroom here at home is still quite bare and evolving. Your girl takes her own sweet time because let’s face it, as soon as you can stick a fork in it, she’ll feel the itch to move on. It would seem I most enjoy the flow of the creative process. And you? What design ingredients do you admire for a tranquil timeless bedroom?

Timeless Bedroom: Ideas to Make it Glow
I love a restful color story and cloud-like buoyancy for dreaming. Matchy bedroom furniture may be a huge no-no in design, but turns out I’m lazy, rebellious, and too sensible to break up with mine. I just tell myself it’s very European of me to hang on to what has served for years…the pieces eventually become antiques after all.

Americans are too often feverishly disposing and replacing to reinvent. My favorite bedrooms are breezy, unfussy, natural, serene spaces influenced by modern French, California cool, Belgian minimalism, and coastal chic.
Breezy Blue Color Story
Waking up to blue skies every single day is suddenly within reach when Sarah Bartholomew is at the helm (from last year’s Southern Living Idea House):

Isn’t the bed fabulous? And the blue-grey trim color (Sherwin-Williams Silver Lake) is one to file away.
The bathroom is every bit as elegant!

The flooring is so understated, and the soaking tub…

well, the soaking tub appears to be wrapped in a glorious baby Moses basket if you ask me. When I think of rattan and wicker classics, the goods at Serena & Lily immediately spring to mind:

Modern French Timeless Bedroom
Interior designer Jill Egan’s artfully sophisticated masterpiece of a bedroom does not shy away from drama or high style. Yet it also somehow feels just right for sweet dreams:

In an elegant European inspired bedroom designed by Marie Flanigan, there’s a carefree elegance that could never fall from favor:
But do you want to know what seems more important than designing a plan that looks timeless or falls under the “timeless category” on Pinterest or AD? Choosing pieces that feel ageless to YOU, pieces that you’ll never tire of seeing day after day.

Brooke Giannetti’s bedroom at Patina Farm is a study in understated livable elegant luxe. Her affinity for Swedish antiques and organic natural materials that develop patina always resonates with me.
Treat yourself to masterclass in all things PATINA wonderful in this treasury by the Giannettis:
Parisian Hotel Chic
Do you ever look to chic hotels for inspiring authentic modern French style? Check out this understated guest room with spectacular paneled ceiling at Hotel Chateau Voltaire:
And I’m sorry, but I am more than okay with the matching bedside tables and lamps! What others deem boring is apparently my sleepy-time tea.

This was our hotel suite in Paris where we stayed for our 25th anniversary…one way to make a timeless bedroom glow is with pure gold. Our room was clad in mahogany and gilded with opulence. Those sculptures flanking the bed were masterfully made by the hands of Rosaline Granet.

And don’t get me started on the French windows dressed in the dreamiest barely there silk opening on to an unforgettable courtyard below.

Definitely the finest hotel I have ever been a guest of, and notice how even the window hardware is adorned with a bronze sculpture.

The use of mirror in the bedroom was also a triumph.

California-Inspired Minimal Luxe Bedroom
Beautiful, functional, neutral, organic, California-inspired laidback luxe is a look that is easy to love and just as easy to live with. Jenni Kayne is a stylemaker with collections that consistently win me over:
The quality is high at Jenni Kayne, and her pieces are made to last.

Did you see this story with Amber Lewis designs? Her California-inspired bedrooms feel so natural and beautiful.
I love her collaborations with Loiloi, and I showed you my pillow and rug designed by Amber here:

My bedroom at our former home featured a rustic reclaimed wood statement wall. Will it still feel timeless in a few years? Not sure, but it will still feel appropriate to the style of that home and its location tucked within soaring trees.

Belgian Minimal Chic
Some of my favorite bedrooms have a Belgian-inspired feel, and perhaps the most influential figure who continues to inspire is Axel Vervoordt:
The bedroom above was designed by Vervoordt for Calvin Klein’s Miami home.
Desiree Ashworth (Beljar Home) creates stunning bedrooms with Belgian influence like the one above.

Belgian linen on the bed and furniture is a fine place to start if you’re after that look.

How to decide on a design direction with so many gorgeous possibilities?

Wait until you see CeCe Barfield Thompson’s tranquil bedroom with walls covered in grasscloth and Lisa Fine fabric on the bed in this:

Beautiful post even though my preference is for color. I didn’t know matching bedside lamps are out of style…I guess I’m old school like you. Who makes these decisions? Another well know interior design blogger insulted me and I am sure other readers when she said brushed nickel faucets look cheap. I noticed one in that bathroom photo. I love my satin nickel . Love your quotes. Have a glorious day

Brushed nickel is beautiful to my eyes too. As far as things looking cheap – I think that’s a subjective matter too. My Ikea sofas in the family room have wide arms that tell you they are Ektorps from Ikea, and plenty of folks would have something to say about that. 🙂 And look at me shrugging my shoulders and saying ‘that’s the spice of life, babe.’ Life is too short. 🙂
