At this very moment, I’m tired from all the housework I did today, and I just sat down to take stock of our bedroom which is our latest DIY project. We initially thought we would simply paint and change out light fixtures. However, after discovering how cold it becomes in winter, we first need to make some structural changes to make it more functional. With those changes nearly done, I now must decide on paint colors and furniture. I still love our bedroom furniture and may keep it after revisiting this post! If you’re Thinking About a Breezy Neutral Bedroom Makeover, I hope this helps both of us.
Thinking About a Breezy Neutral Bedroom Makeover?
Obviously I will be referring to images of our former bedroom since the new one is still a big ol’ mess. You may recall the neutral color scheme was soothing light grey and bright white.
The floors were white oak hardwoods which brought some warmth along with oil rubbed bronze lamps and hardware, antique brass sconces, and natural rustic alder wood doors. It was such a relaxing, tranquil retreat, and we never tired of it in the seven years we enjoyed it.
Lots of pretty things to share…PIN THIS POST if you’re short on time to save it for future reference!
Bedroom Paint Color Ideas for a Neutral Palette
Our bedroom walls were Benjamin Moore “White” (BEHR Ultra Pure White is pretty much identical). The new bedroom is Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray, and I am considering painting the new bedroom white. I plan to paint the trim first and then decide on the walls.
I may leave the the walls the warm gray color though since I’m painting our doors and trim white, and it may need the contrast. I loved how the crisp white worked with the warm hardwoods and knotty alder wood doors (no stain, just poly on top) in the bedroom.
While neutral, there was plenty of texture and interest with the natural wood doors, painted wood accent wall (Stikwood Hamptons), and crisp cool white trim and walls.
Idea to Add Texture in a Neutral Bedroom
I highly recommend this product called Stikwood in Hamptons White which was an easy DIY that only took a couple of hours and made a huge difference.
It’s real, reclaimed, pine that has an adhesive backing so no nailing required.
The texture that planked Stikwood wall added went a long way, and now that I am living with the same bed in a different bedroom without the accent wall, I miss it! In fact, the color of our bed is almost exactly what our new bedroom color is!
Texture from the rustic alder doors also contributed to the warmth of our bedroom, and I especially love this look with white trim.
Consider Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter for a Netural Light Grey
The soft linen-y neutral light grey on the bedroom furniture is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. I watered down the paint a little so the base color (antique white) could glow through it. An old dresser in my walk-in closet was also painted Revere Pewter:

Lovely White & Grey Bedding Ideas
Sheets to Last
Now that colder weather has arrived, I am a huge fan of these luxuriously thick and soft Egyptian Cotton sheets from Vera Wang.
The thread count is 800; however, what matters to me is hand feel and how they have performed over time.
Vintage Stripe Sheets
I have also come to appreciate what Joanna Gaines designs and offers in her cost-friendly Hearth and Hand line for Target.
These vintage stripe sheets are gorgeous in person. I have also raved about the brand’s linen blend hemstitch sheets.
I love them for warmth in winter. However, the warmth is a bit too much for my husband’s comfort.
Pine Cone Hill Bedding Ideas for Luxurious Comfort
If you know this brand (with designs from the brilliant Annie Selke!), then you probably adore the quality and comfort.
Quiet Calm Neutral Grey Bedding
I can attest to the quality and comfort the Bed Blankets from Boll & Branch. This brand is loved by designers, celebrities, and even the White House. I have my eye on this gorgeous, well-priced cableknit blanket:

What a truly lovely post! As an admired and “owner” of an all white bedroom, I completely am in agreement with the beauty they hold.
Though my health issue is different than yours, I have lived with it for the past 26 years. We learn to “live” rather than wallowing to the “what ifs” and the “I can’t….”. For me there were the years of so many unknowns, so many questions of “Why? Why? Why?”. But ultimately my searching with God’s help brought me to a place of pretty good health. You have learned that as well, I know. You see the world as it is, and take all the best from it, rather than spending time in the gutter of “if only…..” and “I wish things were different….”
The things we’ve learned from our adversities often would never have been something we’d have studied or researched were it not for our own trials. And because of that education, we have helped many others.
Your own story has led you to a most lovely place indeed….one you share with each of us daily through your beautiful posts full of wonderful words and delightful images….and hope, for those who are still in the throes of their initial search for healing.
May God guide you daily ….and thank you for being there for so many of us.

Michele, I wish we lived closer. You have no idea how much I want to give you a hug and dance with you in your kitchen to the happy song. I apologize sincerely for not being aware of your Chrons. When I read that you have been living with it for 35 years, I just nodded my head because I’ve been living with my illnesses for a long time too. Michelle, I think you can agree with me…we are not our illness, we are not our disease, we do not let illness define us. I know how difficult Chrons is. I worked in gastroenterology for many years. Please continue to be the bright light you are and know you are always stronger than you think you can be.
Okay now about your beautiful bedroom…I love it all as you know, I’ve commented about it before. It feels light and airy and the perfect place to begin and end a day. Biggest hugs my bloggy friend.
P.S. I keep forgetting to mention the ballet shoes and their significance. I wanted to take ballet classes when I was a young girl and into my teens but it was always out of reach. My father was very strict and he thought ballet classes were a ridiculous waste of time and money. I needed to spend time working on academical things. Anyway….. I love the idea of pointe shoes and how they signify strength, discipline, and passion.

You’re so kind and tender, Katherine. You totally get it. That’s a good point you are making about not letting it define us…especially since a lot of creatives and artists like me can easily get hung up on identity! My identity as a child of God (with a made up mind…hahahaha) is the important one for me. So interesting that you worked in gastroenterology! I’m tough like those ballerinas on pointe, and I have a history I can point to that shows I keep dancing over obstacles. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I’d live to see our youngest start school. Then later, I wondered if I’d see the boys graduate. They are 27 and 24 now, and I’m so grateful. Thank you for the hugs and warmth – reflecting it all back on you and hoping you are well in spite of illness. 🙂
Thank you for sharing all of the gorgeous design inspo and for being candid about your health struggles. I also have dealt with chronic bowel disorders since I was a teenager. Having Lupus, Lyme, and MS obviously affects my GI health. I have relapsing/remitting periods of bowel paralysis and obstruction where I have to be on liquid diets for weeks at at time. I developed SIBO as well and that is probably the worst thing I deal with now along with Mast Cell Activation disorder which has to do with histimine overload. I have learned what my food triggers are, and even some “safe” foods are triggers if I eat too much of them. Food and diet is a full time job for me, but I am so much better than I was and I have learned how to cook filling meals and snacks with extensive food allergy diet after many years of trial and error.
So thankful for beautiful people like you who continue to create and inspire through the struggle.
Blessings to you Michelle!

We really ARE sisters, aren’t we? Oh my word. What a journey has been yours – and so much of it I can relate to. I am going to google a few of those terms you mentioned and always have a listening ear if ever need or want to share more. These struggles have surely made us cherish home more than the average homebody, yes? Home needs to be restful and orderly and unfussy because there is nothing uncomplicated about a life with chronic illnesses. And oh how faith prospers me in valley times! My cells are counting on me to be faithful and lean into every healing balm God has provided. And yet I keep messing it all up and going to sleep and leaning on my own resources which are never in my best interest. Thank you for the vulnerable sharing and for joining me. You’re doing such a fabulous job with or without assorted diagnoses – and I honor you more and more as we become acquainted, Amber. Love to you and thank you for the feature – I’ll be over soon! 🙂
Fantastic décor ideas! Well said, that Tranquil grey & white contrast moves the heart into a meditative sanctuary. Thanks for inspiring us.
