Grey Blue Paint Colors: Ideas for a Tranquil Mood brings decorating and color inspiration as well as shopping resources for admirers of this hue. You already know that after white, BLUE is my favorite! Whether used as a backdrop for walls or introduced as an accent, blue-grey often imparts a tranquil, atmospheric, and calm mood. Today, we’ll consider the range of possibilities then imagine an interpretation of breezy blue for a bedroom. Think un-fussy, sophisticated and gentle but “less precious.” Cheerful coastal interiors have their place, but a chalkier, more Belgian-flavored grey blue will occupy the spotlight today.
Grey Blue Paint Color Ideas for a Tranquil Mood
Blue-greys can often lend classic style as this kitchen demonstrates.

I’m not certain the blue gray walls in the bath below are the painted the same hue as the kitchen cabinets (above) since lighting and exposure issues may be at work.
Aren’t the gold toned sconces lovely with this hue?

When Ali Cayne’s kitchen was viral on the internet years ago, I recall Sherwin-Williams Gibraltar was often the suggestion for getting the look.

Blue Grey Paint Colors from Behr
Here’s a great place to start if you need suggestions to sample but aren’t sure how dramatic you plan to go.

Farrow & Ball Manor House Gray No. 265
If the first image of the monochromatic Plain English kitchen dazzled you, here are a couple of paint colors you may fancy sampling: FARROW & BALL Manor House Gray No. 265 and BEHR Gotham Gray.
Did you know you can score sample pots of pricey Farrow & Ball paints at Anthropologie? Yep. Click the image above to go to buying info.

While they may not be an exact match, both have that atmospheric moody and chalky flavor you may be after.

Grey-Blue-Green Paint Ideas
If you love blue grey colors with green undertones, here is a quartet of contenders to give a whirl.

Behr Charcoal Blue
If you like more blue in your blue grey paint color, here’s a possibility that is still in that sophisticated, chalky, Euro-inspired range.
The stunning bar area below has a smart monochromatic look, and those grilles enhance the look dramatically.

Atmospheric & Serene Light Grey Idea
This mud room takes my breath away, and while I am not certain of the color the designer chose for it, I have an intelligent guess…

It seems reminiscent of Sherwin Williams Gray Screen – so do pin if you care to save it for future reference.

For a a lighter version which reads like a white, try BENJAMIN MOORE Classic Gray which I have used often.

This bedroom caught my eye (photo: Wayfair) and strikes me as one which would make sense in a variety of different home styles, from coastal to French Country to Rustic Modern Farmhouse.

Ya know, sometimes it is about what is in the vase, and sometimes it’s the vase! If you have access like I do to fresh and free branches from outdoors, then rustic recycled glass receptacles are a perfect companion.
What’s on my own dresser? A vintage (and pleasingly tarnished) round silver tray holding Diptyque candles, heart-shaped tumbled stones from Israel, and old skeleton keys.

They feel so fresh and life giving to me, and I think they often get overlooked in kitchens where we traditionally tend to think about ‘appetizing’ hues more than colors we simply feel good being in. As kitchens have become living spaces, we need to stay open to the range of possibilities. Thanks for reading!
I never felt I could do “blueish” colors well but now I’m being drawn more to them. Great inspiration photos and color suggestions!
BTW…love the recycled bubble glass ideas. To get that similar look for free, yes free!, ask a bar or restaurant to save their empty Patron tequila bottles. They’re beautiful pale green bubbled glass, come in various sizes and have a fun large round cork which is quite decorative in its own right. They make wonderful displays alone, grouped together and especially for putting simple wild flower arrangements in. 🙂

That is an awesome tip, Connie!!! I will look into those empty bottles – what a fun way to recycle! There’s just something magical about bubble glass or bubble anything for that matter. 🙂
