This 1875 Industrial Modern Farmhouse Tour begins on charming Grove Avenue in Barrington, IL. Not your ordinary suburban dwelling, the home underwent a complete restoration and expansion to become an iconic American hometown treasure. Truly built to last, the original 1875 house sweetly lives on and breathes easier since being revived in 2008. Fully refurbished and doubled in size, no modern amenity or detail was overlooked.

Context of 1875 Industrial Modern Farmhouse Tour
Context…Located on an idyllic tree-lined street, 609 South Grove is a board-and-battened farmhouse within walking distance of quaint downtown Barrington, IL. The prime location offers wonderful schools, upscale restaurants, shopping, an old time movie theater (remember these!?!), and the convenience of a train to Chicago.
Patience Through the Process
Patience…Nearly two years after traversing Barrington’s Architectural Review Committee, the home’s restoration and expansion plan could begin. It took about two more years to complete, but the final work of art represents a labor of love and a harmonious symphony of design elements.
Quality Construction
Quality…Here’s a modern farmhouse for the books! Superb craftsmanship? Check. Architectural magnificence? And how. Rich high-end finishes? Boom. Thoughtfully renovated and historically preserved with time and care, the homeowners called upon Glen Ellyn architect, Jamie Simoneit, of Z+O architecture + interiors for the extensive project.
Noteworthy Design Elements

Galvalume metal roofing
Heavy Amish custom woodworking and trim

Outdoor Living
Mature trees and landscaping surround the property which is sited on the largest residential lot in the Village of Barrington. The spacious outdoor living areas (rare, indeed, in this neck of the woods!) include a wonderful roomy deck with fireplace, large lawn for football, and multiple porches accessible via French doors. A charming wrap-around front porch is the perfect relaxation and gathering spot…a friendly stand-out in the neighborhood.
Why it’s maybe my favorite…How is it that I know so much about the inside scoop? Because this stunner of a masterfully executed modern farmhouse is home to longtime besties of mine, whom I call family. After lovingly giving the 143-year old place a second wind, my friends have decided to downsize. Someone very blessed now has the opportunity to become the caretaker of a place where so much love flowed. So many beautiful memories were shared within these sacred walls, so many kind words whispered here.
What an honor to share glimpses of it with you now that it is on the market.
I snapped a ton of pictures for you, friends! Today, we’ll explore the home’s beautiful exterior design features. Soon, we’ll tour more of the lovely industrial farmhouse style interiors. I wonder how you would put your personal stamp on the decor inside? Would you take the interior design in more of a vintage direction? Furnish it with modern pieces and bold artwork? Maybe you would choose to bring softness and tranquility with sumptuous textiles and breezy window dressings. What I can tell you firsthand, is that ALL OF THE HARD WORK HAS BEEN DONE and the neutrality lends itself to a myriad of potential decor interpretations.
