Today’s home tour (Rustic Elegant French Gustavian Cottage in Utah) is a beautiful custom new build in Utah with Old World French Gustavian style inside and out. It belongs to Desiree Ashworth of Beljar Home and the lovely blog Decor de Provence, and these interior design shots were brilliantly styled by the talented Bonnie Broten for Country Home magazine in 2014.

Rustic Elegant French Gustavian Cottage in Utah
Longtime readers of Hello Lovely may recall an interview I did with the lovely Desiree in 2011 at a time we corresponded daily through our inspiration blogs. Back then, the kitchen in her home looked like this:
It was a gorgeous chateau (built by her father as this home was). What a beautiful flow of daily French country inspiration my friend’s blog posts brought us before Pinterest was born! She is now busy with lovely new ventures and still inspiring with a keen eye, beautiful designs, tender heart, and devotion to faith, family and friends.
You may remember that French country kitchen with its gorgeous green subway tile that broke the internet (below):
I still want to live inside those Country French magazine photos!
Country French Architectural Beauty in Utah
This was the next project for Desiree. Can you even get over the stone exterior and magnificent architecture?
Let’s see more of Desiree’s Rustic Elegant French Gustavian Cottage in Utah!
She favors blue and green coastal-flavored charming accents, and they bring balance and softness to the more rugged finishes inside and out.
Rustic French Country Bedroom Design
As opposed to a contrived, French country decorated home, it’s a unique mix of collected treasures old and new.
Far more interesting than what we normally see for a new build.
Unique Blue-Gray Custom Stained Trim
Isn’t the trim detail amazing? It’s so different to see all the wood stained this blue-grey custom color.
Such an Old World look in a newly built home.
Country French & Gustavian Style Living Room
The reclaimed wood on the ceilings adds considerable character, age, and texture.
The combination of rustic with refined is a favorite.

I can’t imagine the authenticity such a design element must add to the feel in person! 🙂
Oooh! I’ve seen many of these photos via Pinterest but never seemed to find the source. Thank you for telling us the owners of such a beautiful home. These photos were very inspiring for a home we’d hoped to buy. Though the purchase didn’t go through, the ideas still remain in my inspiration box…just in case 😉

What a dream to own something so thoughtfully constructed and authentically beautiful. Thanks for reading, friend. xox
I love this house, and I’ve been looking for something like this for a very long time! Just out of curiosity, do you know where I could find rustic lanterns like the ones shown. They are beautiful!

The lighting is this home is vintage so you could check importers of European lanterns (Chateaudomingue?). I have been known to age/customize new lanterns with paint…I found a couple contenders here: http://shrsl.com/1hwyl
Do you know where I could purchase the backsplash tile?

Hi Fawn. I believe it is a seaglass tile from Ann Sacks – here is something similar: https://rstyle.me/+9ZPhD5tqdfOPpWgiWNP1GQ
