This time last year I was daydreaming about finishing our walk-out basement, and now we are in the final days of that big project. Stay tuned! We wanted a wide open, breezy lounge space that would be easy to maintain and unfussy in style. While we didn’t go for white shiplap and blue accents like this dreamy property in South Carolina from Lisa Furey, it is a great inspiration for the mood we were after. Maybe this laid back luxe Palmetto Bluff space with understated breezy style will strike a chord.

Understated Breezy Late Summer Mood & Paint Colors

But first…here’s another inspiring project in South Carolina by Marie Flanigan:
Here’s a breezy late summer mood of a swing dress to go along with the interiors here.

The great room here we explored in THIS.

White Paint Color
The color selected by the designer for the exterior and interiors is a bright cool white I was already familiar with.
It was the perfect white for our former fixer upper since it brightened and freshened that formerly dim and neglected home.
This highly reflective white has blue undertones, and the brand calls it an all-purpose type of white to create a clean canvas.

Keep in mind that as an exterior color, sunlight warms this white.

Make sure to sample multiple whites to see how it changes with the light through the day. Find lots of help for choosing the best white in my archives.

More Elements to Get the Look of This Great Room

The same white is on shiplap, ceiling, walls, trim, and doors. This contributes to the very calm mood in this lofty space. Looking for the exact indigo blue linen pillows on sofas? They are custom Schumacher Andromeda. Coffee table is Oomph Edgartown.

I love all of the windows and light flooding this room!

The lush green landscape becomes a design element, and I can imagine the big daily payoff to be connected to the trees and lake.

Built-in storage flanking the fireplace seems to almost disappear. What’s your take on the move to unify all of the texture in the room with a single color?Would you have stained or painted them a color to stand out?

Window treatments are also understated and low contrast. The simplest black rod stretches the width of the back wall of glass. It’s a minimal look that doesn’t compete with any of the other casual elements in the space.

What makes this a great room is the connection and openness of the kitchen, dining, and family room.

The thoughtful architecture within the kitchen helps the big open space feel unified and peaceful. Extending the range hood to the peak of the vault is a dramatic moment maybe out of neccessity but interesting even if it wasn’t required.

Lighting Selections for Pendants, Lamps & Chandeliers
If you’re in the market for high quality classic or coastal lighting from the best designers, Visual Comfort is an amazing source I have used. In this home, fixtures from Thomas O’Brien play starring roles. (I treasure our Thomas O’Brien chandelier in our own breakfast nook.)

If the pendants above should not be available, there’s plenty of other coastal style options by Visual Comfort or Thomas O’Brien. I am always amazed that it is often more challenging to find understated, less fussy lighting than fixtures that are overwrought and busy.

For example, let’s say you’re in the market for a simple, more minimal glass table lamp…

Since I have seen these in person, I can attest they are lovelier in person.

These examples are versatile enough to will work with a range of furniture and styles!
