My last post provided excellent, informed suggestions, and here are more paint possibilities for serene bedroom retreats. Sometimes you simply need a place to start when it comes to choosing samples if you’re after a timeless tranquil look.

Paint Possibilities: Serene Bdroom Retreats
It seems homeowners are finally getting wise about mixing whites at home, evidenced by a slow down of questions for me of the sort. It’s never about matching. Crisp and cool whites are amazing paired with creamy warm whites and greige-y whites. Layering a number of whites varying in temperature and undertone often results in a truly sophisticated result.
Farrow & Ball ALL WHITE
Here’s a white similar to OC-150 from Farrow & Ball if you want to eliminate blue undertones.
All White contains no other pigment beyond white, creating a soft neutral without cool blue undertones a brilliant white contains.
If you’re keen to a modern look, consider pairing it with Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone and Strong White.
It will give you a cozy color story with a hint of edge. FB All White is lovely for achieving a clean and almost graphic finish with contrasting strong tones such as Pitch Black or St. Giles Blue.
Sherwin -Williams RAINWASHED
There are plenty of people who equate tranquility with soft ethereal blue colors. And for good reason!
Rainwashed may be the aqua-like possibilitiy to sample for your bedroom. My favorite use of it was this showroom bedroom in Atlanta which featured an amazing Southern haint ceiling.
What say ye? Would you have also painted the walls of this luxurious retreat Rainwashed as the ceiling is painted? In this example above, there was a mix of grasscloth wallpaper (walls may look painted, but if you expand the image, you can see) and a warm white.

Benjamin Moore SMOKE
One peek in my closet reveals a preference for faded denim and chambray hues. Here’s a lovely blue paint color possibility for that relaxed coastal spirit.
Benjamin Moore YARMOUTH BLUE
In the same spirit as the above possibilities but with stronger grey undertones, Yarmouth Blue feels both timeless and tranquil:

Keep in mind the exposure the room receives will influence the perception of the color. With Northern exposure or low natural light in the space, Yarmouth Blue may read more like this:
Benjamin Moore REVERE PEWTER
I used this warm greige to create a watered down glaze for our bedroom’s wood furniture in our prior home. That bedroom had Northern exposure with very little natural light. I loved the contrast with bright white trim used elsewhere.
As you can see, Revere Pewter is not as cool as the gray coverlet at the foot of our bed.
In the bedroom above, you can see how Revere Pewter looks on walls with white wainscot.
Don’t be afraid of how the swatch may appear on your computer screen. To my eyes, it appears to have a ton of brown undertone. But depending on the lighting in the room, you may not sense brown at all.
Farrow & Ball STRONG WHITE
It can be such a huge bonus when designers share exact paint names, and it isn’t just that they are being gatekeepers. In many custom projects, the colors were custom so it just isn’t possible to share formulas. Charlotte Reiss of Vivi et Margot provided exact colors for their former farmhouse in France.
What sort of effect does Strong White have for a bedroom retreat?
Farrow & Ball call this cool white “strong by name and strong by nature…the subtle urban feel of its light grey undertones add a contemporary twist to period homes.”
They suggest pairing Strong White with Skimming Stone, Elephant’s Breath, and All White.
In her French farmhouse near Bordeaux, Charlotte chose a dark contrasting paint color for trim with Strong White walls:
I found this pairing genius. French Gray in this particular context suggests an earthy, woodsy, warmth that feels utterly natural for the rural setting.

A dressing room in this farmhouse is elevated with an elegant chandelier juxtaposed with the green undertones of painted beams (French Gray). See what I mean about how the effect is rustic and wood-like because of the color chosen? More brown may have created a faux look, white may have erased them or felt too feminine. Something about the green undertones and neutrality feels just right in this context.
Notice how much cooler Strong White when you contrast it with French Gray.
Sherwin Williams EIDER WHITE
Eider White has become a fav of mine as a greyed-white with a romantic feel. I have been living with it in our kitchen for years now. I also painted the aforementioned bedroom furniture this shade of white.
The walls in our bedroom are Sherwin-Williams Agreeable Gray, a contrast to the Eider White on furniture.
It’s interesting as I live with Eider White to note that in the East facing kitchen at certain times of the day, a bit of pink comes through (which I love!).
I haven’t noticed that pink hint in the color of the bedroom furniture.
I find this neutral white similar to a white called Ballet White from Benjamin Moore.
You may be more familiar with Sherwin-Williams Repose Gray or Agreeable Gray which are huge bestsellers. Eider White is in that family.
