Prettiest Holiday Decor Delight: Part Two
Traditional Christmas Trees
If Walmart shoppers I encountered today are any indication, people are going all out this year for tree decorating!
Will your tree have a star on top?
Will it be fresh and alive or is an artificial one part of your traditions?
Each year, we seem to mix it up. But I love our Belgium Fir from Nearly Natural:

Just the easiest tree for me to manage, and no fighting with lights since it is pre-lit.
Old Fashioned Christmas Tree Decorating
No matter what your decorating style, it seems we can never go wrong with old fashioned, vintage or Old World style at Christmas.
And don’t you love the idea of matching your giftwrap for gifts under the tree with your surrounding furniture and decor colors? A designer trick for sure.
Are there secrets for keeping it old school?
More is certainly more!

Colorful and classic? So charming!
Although a lighter look is tempting too!

Old fashioned tinsel ages the look like nobody’s business.
And who doesn’t light up at the sight of a massively tall specimen decked with lights and ornaments?
Natural Christmas Tree Decorating Schemes
I think this may be my favorite style of Christmas tree decorating.
What can I say? I love natural trees in their natural habitat so much!

Isn’t this straightforward idea charming with baby’s breath, hydrangea and clip-on candle lights?
Naturally, a natural tree can make all the difference. It need not even be an evergreen!
And it need not be in the living room! I love this idea so much!
Be-ribboned Holiday Decor
What say ye about velvet ribbons adorning the tree?
Because I think this is blue ribbon time myself! Wait. Did someone say blue ribbon?
White Lights, Colorful Lights or No Lights?
Old fashioned can mean going completely unplugged:
Or how about old fashioned colorful bulbs and little white lights…all in a charming cart?

So darling! Lots of pink and understated color on this next one yet no less festive!
If you’ll be skipping a tree this holiday season but are considering prettying up the front door…

Quirky Holiday Tweets
Are there days you just KNOW you need to unplug all the devices and plug into joy, laughter, and the lighter side of life?

Because I understand those days. Life grows lifey. Evil Information overload is a clear and present danger.
And we can’t underestimate what good medicine laughter is!

While I don’t use X very often, it’s where I turn should I require up-to-the-minute humor from twisted minds and sarcastic types who see life from the far side.
Everything is changing. But humor is still precious.

Holiday Humor & Holiday Gifts to Thrill
Laughter stimulates the motor cortex, the limbic system and the frontal lobe!
Laughter activates and relieves your stress response.

It can also stimulate circulation and relax muscles.
And since laughter increases your intake of oxygen, your heart and lungs are helped by laughter too.

Believe it or not, the Mayo Clinic says “positive thoughts can actually release neuropeptides that help fight stress and potentially more-serious illnesses.” Even though we all know this, I think we forget that WE NEVER HAVE TO WAIT FOR POSITIVE CIRCUMSTANCES TO ARRIVE IN ORDER TO FILL UP WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS.
Ideas for a Festive Holiday & Laughter As Good Medicine
Makes me think about the mechanisms underlying HOPE as well. (I shared hope quotes in this.) When we laugh, our bodies are producing natural painkillers.

You truly are taking good care of yourself when you choose to laugh because you are fighting more potentially serious illnesses.
And not just for the short term!

Laughter is good medicine for the long haul too.
One of the ways humor and laughter help us long-term? They help us connect with people.
I just texted this tweet to our son who is a trial attorney, and it made him lol immediately:

There are so many ways even the most loving, well-meaning people can become divided. In homes, in families, in communities.
We simply must be more intentional and creative to reconnect and unite as humans.

And we don’t have to be comedians or uncommonly clever to allow humor to become a bridge.
Find funny content that speaks your humor love language.

Allow yourself to feel buoyant as your brain is tickled. Share what makes you laugh the hardest with your friends and family in person or on the phone.
Feel the warmth that arises from laughing with each other. Know that this shared connection is never a small thing.

These bonds create healing and light. You’re healing each other, freeing each other from what binds, and charging the air with loving energy…
My husband showed me this because it perfectly reflects the ridiculous stuff that happens in our own home:
Hahahaha.

Christmas & Crowns
Crowns and Christmas hang together for plenty of folks who celebrate holy days for the birth of a king.
Yet it’s interesting to ponder that when Jesus of Nazareth was born, people were desperate for a great royal king to rise and rule. They had no clue this baby born in a barn had a humble kingdom and lifestyle in mind.
Since crowns were historically associated with nobility and status, artists often depicted religious figures wearing them.
The scriptures are full of references about receiving a crown, especially in relation to longsuffering and battles won.

While we may not think of the Christmas wreath as a crown, it is said to symbolize eternity, infinite love, and in the case of a holly wreath, Christ’s crown of thorns.
Christmas Symbols and Crowns

Perhaps traditional wreaths have endured as a symbol of Christmas because of the paradox.

Instead of a symbol representing wealth (or pain!), a wreath is somehow a reminder that Perfect Love conquered death.

A wreath on a door is a sort of invitation for Jesus to enter or even a welcome to triumphant Christmas spirit beyond the door.

Less Serious Crowns
Crowns have a playful side too. Brits traditionally wear tissue ones at Christmas dinner since they come in those sweet Christmas crackers.

Children around the globe feel special donning crowns as well even before they understand the historical significance or implications.

Sparkly crowns came into my world in a fresh way when my tiara-loving nieces became fixtures in my life. What a fun collection it has been my pleasure to help them build!

Crowns reflect an unending circle of perfect love, hope that death will not get the final word, victorious peace redeeming a weary world, and the human spirit’s nobility.

Psst. I shared a heap of whimsy in THIS.
