Tis the season where “more is more” and over the top holiday trappings will begin to appear everywhere we turn. Who can blame creative Christmas lovers turning up the visual holiday feasting and festive hall decking? Yet I’m in need of hush before the rush. Not that Marie Flanigan Interiors are a yawn. Rather, their timeless tranquility offers sophisticated restraint, understated elegance and classic charm.

No time to scroll through this post? Here’s a burst of inspiration I made for you:
Will we collect realistic decorating ideas from inspiring timeless bespoke projects here?
You know I’m an optimist about such matters. There are always new takeaways even when the level of refinement is sky high. We can notice the mix of materials or how the architecture harmonizes with the decor.
Sometimes a single design moment will spark all sorts of ideas.
Understated Bespoke Details
Sometimes it is what is missing that inspires. For example, the absence of trim!
More often, however, it is all about the beauty present. In the case above, decorative artfully applied plaster by Segreto Finishes!
There’s such a calm mood in these designs, and the color story is both natural and quiet!
What a dream to get a laundry room designed by this firm!
Mural wallpaper is still trending, and it is but one bold design move in the bedroom above. So many gorgeous moldings and a mix of modern and traditional!
The way the natural landscape is reflected in the palette of this comfortable living space above takes my breath away.
Marie Flanigan’s Tranquil & Timeless Interiors
One of the wonders I have noted from the work is how rustic textures are seamlessly integrated into elegant contexts. I find this a challenge in my own home. How does she do that?
Does Marie Flanigan work solely with neutrals? No, madame!
Deep color drenched moment anyone?
When rooms are both elegant AND livable because of thoughtful design, there isn’t worry about whether a particular look will look dated even in a decade.
Gentle Grandeur & Sublime Simplicity
Is there a detail in this next bath that you’d love to steal? Because I am smitten with maybe the most beautiful floor I have ever seen.
The architectural moldings and lights aren’t half bad either!
I would never tire of this next bath either:
Isn’t the tile just joyful?
I say it all of the time, but it is often helpful to subtract from a room when it is feeling not quite right. Perhaps it is like dressing well and removing something before leaving.
Does that strategy also seem to work for you?
There are just so many instances where we mindlessly adhere to unwritten design rules (big expanse of wall? must add big interest.). In fact, we only need to follow our hearts and be playful, experimenting until we get it right.
Arriving at a unique look is a process which often means breaking some of the rules we see elsewhere.
That said, we can still make informed decisions by studying the work of seasoned designers.
Decorative DIYs
These are the crafty tutorials and pretty possibilities stealing my attention today:
If you have worked with coffee filters, then you know…it’s a glorious material to manipulate. If you have some time and need a meditative craft…
Who can resist an everlasting peony?
And since we’re nearing Christmas, this one’s a keeper since the snowflakes can embellish any number of elements from trees to doors to ceilings (imaging suspending a room full of them!).
If you’re someone who understands the statement “texture is my color,” then maybe you’ll appreciate how this simple DIY offers potential for adding a bit of it.
