Country French Style Finds is a friendly-priced answer to get the look should money trees not be blooming in your garden this spring. Furniture from Target and Amazon? Hmmm…I just had an annual physical with my doctor on my smartphone. Robots are answering our queries on Google and sending us email. Is there anything in the 2020s that isn’t slightly upside down? If inexpensive is not your jam, maybe these low cost items will work for a second home, a rarely used room, or a furnished rental. The important thing? Pretty design isn’t reserved for the wealthy.

Low Cost Country French Style Pieces

Some of the pieces are found at Target!
Belgian Style Upholstered Dining Chair
I have never seen such a low price for this chair which is very similar to the RH ones I have owned for many years:
If you have spied these chairs (typically they are covered in linen slipcovers) you know how expensive they are.
Our RH chairs now cost $930 (or $695 for RH members) each. Yikes.
That’s why there’s a friendlier priced one on the mood board and why this one from Studio McGee stands out as a wildcard. (BTW this mood board mostly does not belong with the rest of the inexpensive finds here except to provide contrast!).
So these Studio McGee chairs have a reasonable price tag at about a quarter of the price, and the style? So timeless. I haven’t tired of this classic style yet! As you can see above, they aren’t just useful at the dining room table.
Not sure it even matters what you pair with them which makes them extra valuable.
Vivian Park Sofa
This sofa from Studio McGee for Target is also Belgian inspired with its slope arms and pale color.
Are you a fan of a bench cushion on a sofa?
This sofa is similar to our RH slipcovered track arm sofa in Belgian linen (sand), and I’m a fan of the bench cushion.
It provides a great foundation for any number of accent pillows and throws so you can change it up over the years. And it certainly isn’t strictly “European Country” or even country!
Neutral enough to blend with modern schemes, it will definitely conform to your unique mix.
Rustic Country Rattan Baskets
Who can have enough baskets?
If you live with a lot of white decor as I do, then you probably need even more. They add so much texture and function to every room in the house.
I have been slowly replacing all of the plastic dollar store bins and totes with natural woven baskets that will never need to be replaced.
Whimsical Console Table
Since it is petite, there are a variety of spots it could bring a smile with its distressed zinc goodness. An entry in an apartment without a clearly defined area to drop keys and mail comes to mind.
And there are endless ways to style vignettes upon it.
Rustic Galvanized Planters
This is more rustic and may not work for every European country interior, but for porches and decks, I can imagine it being multifunctional. It can hold a plant but also ice for a party.
Coir Doormat
When you don’t know where to begin freshening up your home, start at the front door.
Here’s a great look for just inside the door:

French Country Blues & Greens
You have to admit that a limited budget frequently leads to unexpected creative adventures and a more innovative design result.
For example, I would love to cover the walls of my bedroom with a pretty grasscloth covering. But I also have to think about budget and future owners of this home because I don’t know if we’ll be staying a long time.
The big picture helps us avoid decorating over-expenditures and decisions we’ll regret.
A Favorite Thrifty & Slender Side Table
Even though grasscloth would be beautiful, I’m thinking of other options such as a budget friendly statement wall in that bedroom.
I have done my share of budget friendly statement walls! Did you see the uber-frugal French script statement wall I stenciled in a guest bedroom (the stencil and chalk paint probably came to 40 bucks)?
(Someone saw a photo of that wall on FB and alerted me French script is soooooo five minutes ago. Um. Pardon, madame, NOPE. Timeless is timeless, mes amis.)

In Search of a Pretty Pouf…
For me, the beauty of the decor is often tied to adjectives such as: understated, quiet, faded, organic, raw, natural and honest.
Is every piece here imbued with those qualities? No (especially when the first word in the description is ‘faux.’)
But occasionally it is okay to begin with inferior pieces to inject a bit of the flavor or color before upgrading later, down the line.
Another option few folks seem to consider is customizing an “almost perfect” find to enhance or correct its color.
If a piece has the simple lines you’re after and is the right proportion but comes with a funky finish, consider making it one of a kind with a tweak or two.
Hand-finished pieces are often far more attractive than factory finishes, and the hands finishing a piece can be yours!
