First things first. If you don’t already subscribe to MILIEU, it’s a must-have subscription for the finest interiors across the universe. PAMELA PIERCE founded this set apart source of exquisite homes, gardens, fashion, art, and culture from around the globe. Dallas-based interior designer and MILIEU Editor-at-Large Shannon Bowers was recently spotlighted HERE so be sure to peek at that story too. Oh, these Milieu Magazine interiors with their timeless glory! I save every issue and always have them near me!

European Inspired Timeless Interiors in MILIEU
Since the projects spotlighted in Milieu are ones we have never seen anywhere else, they are certainly set apart.
I’ll never get over Robin Rains’ own Southern home designed by Jeffrey Dungan!
And she’s a favorite designer of mine for so many important reasons…the founder of the magazine, Pamela Pierce, lives in a very elegantly spare way with liberal doses of white.
Ancient antiques mingle with contemporary furnishings and art in her designs that honor the past yet feel fashion forward and optimistic.
Rustic & Refined Elegant Designs
An interesting mix of old and new along with highly refined and carefully curated spaces have so much to teach with each page turn of the magazine.
So much so that I think we often forget what a gift it is that homeowners invite us to peek inside their windows and doors.
There are moments when I must engage with negative commenters on my very active FB page, and I am often moved to type: UMMM, COULD WE SEE YOUR LIVING ROOM JUST NOW, PLEASE?
I mostly resist, but I hope we can be ever mindful of the privilege it is to behold these bespoke projects.
Inspiration from Shannon Bowers Designs
Her work is consistently a cut above, and I love that this designer started out in the same field where I began: education.
I think such a background will affect your sensibilities in important ways.
Whether you are a teacher, student, counselor, or administrator, a good deal of your training will address listening, interpersonal skills and relational issues.
Listening to a client and hearing what is not only said but what is not said requires intention and sensitivity.
Additionally, there’s a humility that seems to come when you value learning, growth, and education. The more we learn, the more we realize we know very little!
There’s so much to learn about art, craft, space, design, architecture, gardening, lifestyle, and business.
What a gift when the leader at helm can synthesize and draw from various disciplines and experience with wonder and awe.
Understated Elegance & Commitment to Bespoke Designs
One glance at your social media feeds, and you will see that so many interior designers and brands have a look, a color story, a vibe, a style with which they strongly identify.
So it’s refreshing when certain creatives won’t be easily moved to compromise.
It’s something I have long admired about MILIEU: a resistance to go along with formulaic recipes for promotion.
Let’s face it. There is so little purity left across internet domains and media.
I have known since 2015 when I was still a hobby blogger how online businesses were headed in a homogenous direction. How the distinctions between blogs, brands, magazines, stores, and websites were blurring so much that they were becoming indistinguishable from one another.
Yet it is no less shocking to see it unfold. So many of us long for a simpler era when magazines did this, blogs did this, and you certainly weren’t confronted with an ad for a Pottery Barn sofa while browsing for dorm room decor at Target online.
The blur is real, and I’m a part of the messy business of it all with ads that clutter these posts and interfere with user experience.
Which is why I predict print magazines and books will make a huge comeback!
Here’s hoping the beautiful inspiration keeps flowing freely.
Because it all adds a layer of such loveliness when you’re a design enthusiast.
Unforgettable Home Tours, Contributing Photographers & Writers
The milieu of Milieu? Seems to be a place where so many gifted creatives, writers (David Masello is a gem!), and photographers shine the most flattering light and soulfulness on unforgettable interiors and design moments. Who is behind the camera?
It’s a who’s who! Peter Vitale, Miguel Flores-Vianna, Laura Resen, Claude Smekens, Simon Upton, @shadedeggesphotography, Brett Wood, Jean Francois Jassaud, Clive Nichols, Natalie Marotta, Guillaume Delaubier, Harald Altmaier, Mike Garlick, Aimee Mazzenga…
Max Kim-Bee, Haris Kenjar, Simon Brown, Lisa Romerein, Clive Nichols, Eric Piasecki, William Waldron, Read McKendree, Alicia Waite, Chris Little, Brie Williams…
Mark Bolton, German Saiz, Luke White, William Abranowicz, Marco Bertolini, Joanna Maclennan, and even more!

I love Milieu magazine! There is always so much to see and take in, each room is a collected work of art. One of the best magazines ever in my humble opinion.
As for the blurred lines…sadly a new part of life. Hopefully as you predict, we will see more and more print magazines.
Have a great day Michele!

Thanks for reading, Elizabeth! Wouldn’t that be something if print magazines make a huge comeback and the publishing industry morphs into something wonderfully fresh? Would love to be a part of such a movement. xox
