Can’t wait to get away for some relaxation, escape, sun, and shenanigans with friends in a couple of weeks. Late winter can find many of us in a slump. Anticipation for spring is growing, yet we’re already anxious and skipping ahead, dreaming of long summer days. Should you be fortunate to have a spring break getaway on the calendar, here’s what I would pack with an emphasis on blue since it’s a favorite to wear. Lotsa links to discover ahead! I hesitate to call this over-40 or over-50 fashion since we’re all different. I know women my age who wouldn’t dream of wearing distressed denim or un-ironed linen and much younger women who would wear everything below.

In My Bag For a Laid Back Vacation

Packing for vacation is relatively easy these days. It’s largely about casual hikes on the beach, lounging, casual dining, and minimal formality. This year I’m heading to the ocean which I haven’t seen since our last trip to Oahu’s North Shore. (That’s my happy place hanging loose as much as possible with Honu aka my favorite green sea turtle creatures). What a treat to rest near the waves and recover from the stress of work life. I’m a fan of packing versatile things in a carry-on like this:

Packing less things means everything must be multi-faceted. This blousy swim top can be worn off the beach easily…

and I can’t say enough about Athleta’s swim shorts – here’s the style I wear (and I own probably four colors).

Dress ‘Em Up or Down

I love the versatility of a tiered maxi skirt which works as well with a funky t-shirt as it does with a silk blouse.

And wouldn’t this go with just about everything? Looks like the Tiffany’s one!

Joggers & Sweats

This style can be flattering on so many different body types…think I need every color!

I love anything gauze from J. Crew and have this Gauze Shirt in several colors.

Just One Pair of Sandals

I wear comfy sneakers on the plane and pack just one pair of comfy wedge sandals plus flip flops (which are known as ‘slippers’ to many doncha know).

For a Laid Back Vacay

I can’t live without beachy denim shorts, and I imagine myself at 90 looking very tomboy chic and wearing these!

You can always pair them with a feminine top.

And something like this works as a beach coverup or easy thing to throw on for shopping.

Swim Stuff

Even though I like the look and idea of one-piece swim dresses, I tend to not wear them when it’s hot. There is no law that mandates you wear only granny-designed suits after a certain age, and I’m comfy in bikini tops and boyish swim shorts with breezy long sleeved tops over them if I have had enough sun.
