This breathtaking, renovated home in La Jolla, California is home to interior designer Leslie Martin (M+M Interior Design), and I know you’ll be inspired! After viewing the tour on Homeworthy, I just had to know more about the traditional style project. Fortunately, the designer shared them with us! Find the paint colors as well as other resources for this timeless California cottage with Hamptons chic.
Paint Colors: Timeless California Cottage With Hamptons Chic
You are going to be smitten with this oceanview home. First things first…take a tour and learn about how the designer created a decidedly undecorated look with layering magic, collected oil paintings, and antiques:
I feel the need to watch it a second time just to soak in the beauty again!
Benjamin Moore Simply White
While the white walls are a custom shade, Leslie Martin says it is very close to Benjamin Moore Simply White.
Simply White’s slightest hint of warmth makes the clean, crisp white a favorite to use anywhere in the home.
Designer Todd Klein told AD he loves Simply White since
“It’s the perfect white with a touch of umber, which keeps it from becoming too blue of a white or too chalky. It remains a warm white without becoming linen or cream or too yellow. Some of the greatest ways to use Simply White are in a semi-gloss finish on wood trim moldings, in an eggshell finish on the walls, or in a matte finish on the ceiling. There’s a slight change of color due to the different finishes and this provides an ideal background for art, beautiful fabrics, and rugs in a room.”
That Gorgeous Sofa!
In the image above, the sofa was covered in a chambray fabric, but in the video tour, we see it upholstered in this gorgeous Fermoie Shell Grotto:
And this is why it’s so helpful to watch a tour and learn about how to mix prints and patterns. Martin explains how it can be easier to live with a more forgiving print such as this one.
It’s a pricey investment fabric, but if you love it, you could always opt for accent pillows:
What I love about the shell motif throughout the home is how it is repeated in such a sophisticated, subtle manner. There aren’t tabletops massed with shells or in-your-face nautical moments.
The coastal nods feel appropriate to the home’s context, natural, and as if they were added slowly over time.
What a smart dining area with easy to care for faux leather on the banquette!
Farrow and Ball Light Gray No. 17
This sun room is so beautiful, and the khaki color is called Light Gray.
While Light Gray is much darker than Sherwin-Williams Agreeable Gray which we have in our bedroom and family room, it reminds me of Agreeable Gray with all that sunshine washing it out. Keep that in mind if you’re considering this color. You can always have it mixed at a reduced saturation or sample a lighter greige:
Farrow & Ball Jitney 293
I found the kitchen in this renovated timeless California cottage to be an unexpected wonder!
Instead of the typical crisp and cool white with blue (with chinoiserie or coastal elements) cottage kitchen, it has a very luxurious English country feel and luxurious European warmth. Isn’t the over-grouted stone backsplash brilliant? The paint color of the cabinets?
Quite similar to Farrow & Ball Light Gray, Jitney works beautifully with the varying grey tones of the stone.
The island and glass-fronted cabinets flanking the range are a chic black.

The designer shared the source of her favorite candle which she keeps burning in the kitchen:
She also recommends picking up a set of bamboo folding chairs for extra seating (and coastal chic that will never fall from favor).
