I first learned of The Little Monastery years back in a treasured book I own called Quiet Living: Unique Country Interiors as well as in Milieu where Belgian designer Greet Lefèvre has contributed as an editor. This magical property in Belgium has a rich history and was restored artfully and thoughtfully by antiques dealers Brigitte and Alain Garnier. Belgian Interior Design: The Little Monastery B&B Near Bruges! may just inspire you to put this destination on your bucket list and someday visit!

The Little Monastery Near Dammes
What makes the property extra special? A gift of Margaretha of Constantinople in 1275, the property became a small monastery in the late 16th century with ten Cistercian monks. The monks did more than practice silence–on a mission to protect the land from flooding, they labored to build dikes.
We feel lucky to have the chance to live in a magnificent place called ‘Vaucelleshof,’ where the light is strong and the Flemish country feeling is present. –Brigitte Garnier

This looks like a truly magical retreat and I love the history of it. It’s beautiful when an old abandoned place is given a new life!

I agree and am so happy that the Garniers were generous enough to welcome their property to guests who can soak up beauty, timeless charm, and tranquility here. I can’t imagine living in a place with such a holy background–truly this is a labor of love!
In a word: Lovely! Purely lovely!
There are elements of French in Belgium but with a much “visually quieter” look. So very relaxing and beautiful.
