We have been touring homes with farmhouse style and modern farmhouse decor like crazy this summer on Hello Lovely, and I see no good reason to stop.
Yesterday, it was farmhouse dining rooms, before that it was a Danish farmhouse, and prior to that it was European inspired farmhouse bedrooms.
Renovated Modern Farmhouse With Industrial Style
Today’s inspiring modern farmhouse is not only lovely in its design and integrity, it’s very close to my heart since it is the home of the some of the best humans on the planet–lifelong friends with fabulous taste who just happen to be collectors of my art and collages.
(I am creating brand new creations to stock my shop after a long art vacation as we renovated two homes…if you are interested in an abstract landscape, quote panel, or discarded book cover collage, give me a holla!).
I have spent many days and evenings within this lovely home with my friends, and it is even more magnificent in person.

My Art in This Home
My friends began collecting my artwork as soon as I began painting and collaging as a result of a creative inferno which hit me in 2010.
There are pieces they commissioned as well as pieces from my inventory, and I especially admire how they display my vintage book cover pieces (they hunt for beautiful vintage wood frames and mount the work on black linen).
History of this Modern Farmhouse Build
This farmhouse is a historic preservation and addition to a 19th-century farmhouse in a charming village in Chicagoland not far from my home.
The front section of the farmhouse is the original part of the house, and my friends hired architect Jamie Simoneit (Z+O) to design and build this dreamy home: a modern farmhouse with industrial and traditional details.
During construction, my friends resided in another beautiful modern farmhouse, never suspecting the process would take nearly four years to complete!
The village’s Architectural Review Committee was deeply committed to scrutinizing every design detail for the historical property.
The finished product is truly an amazing property, and my friends frequently host large gatherings where we hang in the kitchen, give pop-up live concerts, dance, dine, have meaningful conversations in the great room, and sip cocktails in the cozy living room.
Secrets Behind this Modern Farmhouse
It’s no wonder Apartment Therapy wanted to feature our friends’ modern farmhouse last year, and before the shoot, my pals asked me to stop over with style tips before the photographer arrived.
I loaded my car with some rustic vintage accessories and art (in case we wanted to work them into the decor) and headed over to pow wow and share my two cents before the shoot.
Some of my suggestions?
– Infuse real life living and imperfect lovely (my friends are super tidy for realz, and I knew they would get crucified for just being themselves, so I felt protective).
– Add a pedestal or three of cupcakes, bowls of colorful food in the kitchen, and set the table with favorite dishes, and fresh flowers.
When the story ran, a photo of the home’s entry showed a rolled up area rug too heavy to remove quickly for the shoot, and you would have thought there was a dead body visible in the pic since various conspiracy theories about the rug were suggested while the craftsmanship of the original part of the historic home was ignored! Ha!
Stalkers online (who would never have the courage to broadcast their own interiors on the web) can be nuts.
Below are images from the AT shoot and my own photos of my friends’ modern farmhouse…
Welcome home to a lovely haven full of love, grace, vulnerability, bravery, creativity, friendship, nurturance and kindness.

Hi Brittany! This blog is an excellent source for modern farmhouse decor ideas, and I highly recommend using the search box (above the photo of me on the right in the sidebar) and dig for inspiration! In a lot of Leanne’s designs, decor pieces are vintage, and one of her favorite sources is: gardenstyleliving.com. Hope this helps.
