Autumn’s cozy quietude picks up where we left off in my personal reflections (with Halloweenie-grinchie grousing about disguises HERE.) May these inspiring images and your remaining days of October transport you to quieter, peaceful autumn living at home wherever you are.

Autumn’s Cozy Quietude
Do the Colors of Autumn Speak to You?
I love how terracotta tones and subtle blush pinks can calm and cozy on down a beautiful autumn-friendly look.

Even very subtle touches of rose in fall are just lovely and straight from nature in autumn!

We usually associate terracotta with the desert and rocky, mountainous places, but it shows up in autumn climbing buildings and underfoot as leaves.

The warmth of gold feels right at home in so many of our kitchens. Here in the Georgian, I decided to be unafraid about mixing metals, and it took no time at all to feel comfortable with the decision.
Cozy Sounds from Nat King Cole
On our hike yesterday, there were so many magical autumn moments with plenty of colorful leaves changing and clusters of bright berries in contrast, ready to nourish busy wildlife.
Did someone say leaves?

In case you thought mushrooms and broccoli were only for your stirfry:

I love that log planter so much.

In every season, don’t skip white roses or their fragrance which transports you to heaven if only for a moment.

The cookbook on my cart is by Drew Smith. SOUPOLOGY (Rizzoli, 2020) helps you master six broths which can then become 60 soups. Fall has just begun, so maybe you could set a goal to make 60 soups through autumn and winter.

Leaves Descending
If home where you live doesn’t come with too many trees, bring them inside.
If you are in a deeply wooded territory and dread raking leaves, maybe have a photo session first before the labor begins…

I love the fact that one of my followers made a corn cob wreath (see the one below) to attract and become a squirrel watcher. Imagine the leaping and the joy of the show.
Remember when being present to such live entertainment was a more natural impulse before internet and smart phones?

Cozy Autumn Tablescapes
An outdoor autumn party sounds amazing and romantic, and it’s not the prep work that deters me as much as the task of getting guests to commit to a date and time.
Modern life has become so busy and anti-social that I usually give up at the stage of locking in the time for the event.

Find me with the trees in every season, and in fall? Our sunset maple in the front yard has begun to turn, and next week will be in its golden glory like this:

If a moody deep olive green is calling, the background of the quotes in this post are Farrow & Ball’s Green Smoke.

By now you have seen plenty of inspiring olive green kitchens and probably don’t need to be convinced it works as a neutral in many homes.

I’d love to hear from you if you have a green kitchen. Does the color get tiring with time? Does it feel natural in every season? Do you pair it with red or terracotta?

Fantasy New Build With Woodsy Warmth
April Tomlin’s reimagining of a barn is not light and airy as a mood I favor. Instead, find dimly lit, moodier warmth in this restful retreat blissfully serene with its shadows. I admire how the space you expect to house a dining table features a conversational area with club chairs. See for yourself:
Peace to you right where you are.
