These interiors are sunny spaces with a breezy quality mirroring the weather outside today. We already started a parade of summer delish HERE, where there wasn’t enough room to share glowing inspiration. “Unfussy” is certainly subjective. What seems too busy for me, may be relaxing and just right for you. A design or three below may not be consistent with the vibe in your opinion. I’ll offer what I believe keeps them from crossing over into fusslandia.

Sunny Spaces & Skipping the Fuss
How can I say I’m not a big yellow person when I’m crazy ’bout summer sunshine and French farmhouses in the South of France? There’s something magical about how it is celebrated in the space above with block-printed drapes and below in an elegant Hamptons bedroom! Here comes the sun, little darlin’, and it’s all right.
Summery Sikes Inspo
So classic and relaxing! Unfussy enough that a sweet Spaniel is welcome.

Here’s a fabric designed by him (Sikes, not the pooch) that fits the sunny summery vibe:

This lovely yellow Hamptons bedroom above is inside the forthcoming book you can pre-order by Mark D. Sikes:

In his third book of the Beautiful trilogy, FOREVER BEAUTIFUL celebrates nature, colors, patterns, and textures, including the designer’s favorite blue and white, rattan, gingham, stripes, and the chinoiserie chic we expect. Inspiration from homes he designed (such as the ooh la la gardens of Versailles–inspired French Chateau-style home in Chicagoland!), signature touches, quotes, and updated tradition glow in light-filled photography by the (oh yeah, I’m just gonna say it) PERFECT LENS of Amy Neunsinger.

Here’s a Sikes-y moment I’d gladly insert myself with a copy in hand…

Less Fuss Doesn’t Mean Rustic or Informal
Would you, could you, imagine consulting design books at a beautiful desk like this with a view?
Isn’t it a clever console/bar/library moment in the sun?
I want to fall in love with the New England style glory of this gorgeous structure above, but that Toyota FJ140 Land Cruiser is stealing my attention. And I don’t even notice cars for the most part! What can I say? I’m a child of the 70s. This classic one just does it for me, and I can imagine it transporting me and my friends for summer shenanigans. Any coastal grannies in the house?

Is your idea of “unfussy” not necessarily spare or neutral? Because I love Rita Konig’s design (I took her course on Create Academy) and approach to making houses feel like home.

Sometimes we can locate resources to create a breezy summer look at home, and sometimes we have to escape to magical places to absorb it first.
Of course virtually traveling works too, and that’s how these images with their effortless layering and timeless arrangements inspire.

Sunny Spaces With Lemons
Suddenly we’ll notice a color combination we may never have considered working. We’ll remember that we love terracotta and blue or…
that a bowl with a vibrant pop of yellow lemons is powerful because lemons…
are surely the happiest!

Can Patterns Feel Less Fussy?
Sometimes it is a bit of fussiness that leads to ultimate unfussy living.

Think about how forgiving patterns on the floor or counters (veining in white marble) or walls (wallpaper can brighten up forlorn and dim spaces) do wonders.
And sometimes what is unfussy about a design is a mood of spaciousness. There’s fuss happening on the fireplace mantel and details in this historic space above, but the DeGournay-graced walls and the luxurious lofty space in this bath? Calgon, take me away. (I never said the inspiring spaces in this post would be at all dupe-able!)

Remember the yellows and oranges in Jane’s house in IT’S COMPLICATED? Who can compete with that California sunshine?

A Pause for Holiday Decor Inspiration to Pin in June
Please, kittens, no hostile emails about how I’m rushing you and wrecking your summer. Let the good people load their Pinterest boards and take their sweet time to dream and scheme about Christmas days comin’.
I have always wanted a pink Christmas…
Isn’t it interesting with red?

Or in place of red? I love how others decorate with citrus during the holidays…

Have you ever seen Rebecca Vizard’s southern home?

Oh my! It’s a feast for the senses. Watch the whole tour and be captivated by the charming textile designer and her stories!!!!
Bet you had no idea I was going to take you through seasons beyond summer! Hahahaha.

Thanks for reading with tenderness and journeying with me in the sun. Make sure to see the first installment of inspo HERE.

Peace to you right where you are.

Fun to see inspo for holidays in the summer…gives ideas ahead of time to think about doing!! Love the two colorful (pink, red) Xmas decor pics by Julie Neill designs. I might try a colorful Xmas tree & mantle for a change this year! With all my white/neutral color scheme as the background, I think it would be a nice change for one Christmas @ least & a little more nostalgic looking…like all the colorful Christmases were when I was growing up before color coordinated trees became popular! And you used all your ornaments even if they weren’t white, neutral, silver or gold! Haha! It would be a fun surprise for all my kids who’ve become used to a neutral/white Christmas tree theme over the last 5 years or more!! And LOL @ the paws under the closed door meowing a prayer for it to be reopened!! Haha! Love it!!

We’re twins – I’m always wanting the pink Christmas but such a white Christmas traditionalist! There’s nothing like seeing those little kitty paws reach under the door, and for me, it’s like lookin in a mirror. hahahaha
