Not that you must ever choose between warm and cool. When they are used together, there’s an interesting tension that I have heard certain designers call ‘clashing.’ The idea of intentionally clashing colors is lost on a lot of folks, but if you look at highly sophisticated interiors, you’ll recognize it.
Is your dream rustic-luxe cottage a place where you experiment with color, or will it reflect your love of calm neutrals? While this is a magnificent home and not a rustic cottage, the color story and beautiful moldings could be just right in my own dream cottage.

I’m always fascinated by how creatives work with limited square footage, aren’t you? Here’s an apartment that has me dreaming about how sweet the floor plan could be for a cottage on the lake or a cottage in the woods! So clever:
So far, the closest we personally came to creating a rustic luxe cottage was the renovation of our former home. So many rustic design elements juxtaposed with elegant ones on that woodsy lot.
The snow is something I’ll miss if ever we leave the heartland!
Truth be told, I couldn’t find too many “warm and cozy” glimpses of our interiors since they are cooler and bright for the most part. But this sideboard moment from a few seasons ago felt cozy to my eyes.
