Oh these silly alpacas on the farm! We just returned from a trip to a local alpaca farm and shop specializing in all things wooly wonderful. The sweaters, scarves, socks and mittens were so darling, and I found lovely gifts. Santa was there, an elf cradling a calm chicken brought smiles, and the prettiest Dalmatian with a festive red bow (why didn’t I snap photos!?!) greeted us all. Learning about the alpacas today was rather eye opening, and it turns out my husband is relieved I won’t be opening my own sanctuary. Hahahaha. I’m only half joking. Honoring Our Pets Who Live a Short Time

In the last couple of seasons, pet portraits was my theme for gifts for family, and a favorite is was this one (created by Minted) of Eve:

He was a rescue with special needs and has come such a long way! We adopted Bella when she was a puppy, and her health remained so perfect that I had no experience with vet appointments and the issues our kids address with their animals.

She brought so much goodness, unconditional love, and joy to our home that it changed us forever. Our hearts are forever grateful for that sweet creature who left a mark.

With the stress that seems to go along with modern life, pets offer a soothing presence and companionship to so many.

You may recall how a reader became angry with me in the past about me singing the praises of animals. She believes we somehow devalue the sacredness of human life by honoring them.

But I have a different perspective. What a blessing they are. I am actually deeply grateful for how animals point me to unconditional love and the majesty of the natural world

Favorite Pretty Pup

Here’s the pretty pittie girlie as a pup. She has grown a lot bigger since the photo but still thinks she is little and loves to sit on my lap.

I snapped these in our former backyard, and she is crazy about our new one where she loves to fetch.

She loves helping with everything and anything in the kitchen (if watching cookies baking in the oven counts as “help”).
