It is how I imagine grand homes a century ago came to life. Built to last with integrity to serve future generations.
You can’t miss the level of design restraint which creates riches of breathing space, of daydreaming space! Expanses for the soul to rest are repeated. Uncrowded and unadorned allows spaciousness to fill the spirit with calm.
Old World Artful Environments
Is it any wonder a lover of minimal modern European aesthetic would also collect understated, delicate, and subtle art? This framed work by Lauren Collin is a scalpel-carved work on watercolor paper.
Whispers can speak volumes. If you have ever worked with watercolor paper as a medium, then you know. The idea of piercing it just so to unearth textural music within? I imagine even the tree thanks the artist for the honor.
The art awakened pieces of my past and nearly-forgotten images. Of ragtime sheet music from a player piano mesmerizing me in the ’70s. And also handsewn French knots delicately enhancing a white linen curtain. Of mysterious Braille dancing beneath the fingertips of our brilliant elderly neighbor next door. And also white wedding cakes with elegant bas-relief icing.

With a minimal approach to Modern Belgian-French, lighting and texture often play starring roles. Jill Egan’s dining room chandelier is so utterly breathtaking in daylight, I cannot imagine what magic illuminates in the evening!
As a paint color ambassador who posts ad nauseam about options, I would gladly trade all of our painted walls here for these unique, warm, and lustrous plastered ones.
