As a longtime follower of Brooke Giannetti and all things Velvet and Linen, it has been a pleasure to follow her journey as she and Steve left Patina Farm in Ojai for a meadow in Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee. Lets revisit the loveliness of that unforgettable mountain homestead.

Patina Farm’s Timeless & Tranquil Interiors
Inspiration Tour of Patina Farm
If you haven’t already purchased a copy on their site, it’s time to order their new book! Psst. You are going to be awed by the pages of PATINA HOMES & GARDENS. Prepare your soul for a beauty joyride!

I wonder if newer followers of the Giannettis mistakenly think the farm animals are only there for social media content. We know better!

What a home for a family of creatives and their lovely animals! My favorite thing about this property’s construction? The way natural materials are honored and elevated.

All of that gorgeous stone inside and out!

And of course that California sunshine to bathe in.
If European country rustic elegance floats your boat, you’ll want to invest in the treasury of the Giannettis’ books. This couple’s highest calling is to nurture family, creativity, and dreams.

Modern European Country Kitchen
Which details in Patina Farm’s kitchen were your favorite?

The way the space is oriented with the property’s magnificent tree is pretty hard to beat!

But all of that limestone and the Lacanche range…

How many times was this hearthside moment emulated across the planet?

It’s so good!

A True Farm With Patina
I was fortunate enough to speak with Brooke and Steve on one of their morning walks when the PATINA FARM title was launching.

I asked about their experience working from home where darling pygmy goats gathered on the porch near an office window.

Can you even imagine? Ha!

As they described their deepening relationship and daily connection with the animals on the farm, it was clear how their hearts were centered in it all.

Returning to center feels more important than ever these days.

If we are not intentional about checking in with our souls (noticing where we long to feel more anchored, where we long to feel more free), things may shift into imbalance.

Finding a healthy balance in the 2020s is often quite an undertaking.

After all, much has changed since this little European inspired sunny farm came to be in 2013!

Can you fathom how much has changed in the last dozen years?

The Awe & Beauty of Growth
I can only imagine what joy planting so many seeds at Patina Farm brought. To watch them mature and bear fruit must have been world changing!

While devotion for the timeless and tranquil is rooted in honoring time and rest, it seems more common these days to prize the fast furious rush of progress and productivity.

Is that why a project like Patina Farm feels set apart?

You know a home is special when a hall does not settle for being simply a hall when it can become an orangery…

A FB follower recently commented, “everyone should have an orangery,” and I agree! Hahaha.

You get a sense of how the landscape influenced the architecture and design to celebrate the light!

And I’m always struck by how all of the natural elements chosen for rooms inside harmonize with the outside.

Right?

All that gorgeous light for plants to thrive is such a dreamy prospect as I gaze at dreary grey winter skies.

Home is so much more than a retreat at day’s end and on weekends.

It is where we love, grow, evolve (ever slowly!), and dream.

When our homes become places of connectivity to nature like Patina Farm, there’s no telling how much the experience will deepen us.

Inspiration to Add More Organic Elements to Home
In fact, as I study these interiors and notice the many natural materials in the mix, I find myself seeing my own home with new eyes.

It’s far too easy to accumulate a quantity of belongings made from synthetic or toxic materials.

There’s no quick and easy remedy. But maybe what we can do as we take inventory is take baby steps and make healthy adjustments where possible.

Patina & Textural Beauty at Patina Farm
Noticed how the color story across these interiors is quiet and understated without feeling one note or flat?

That’s the pleasure and beauty so much rich texture affords.

When the texture is from patina developed over centuries from time, use, and the elements?

It doesn’t get much better than that!

Are you admiring the natural white oak flooring too?

In our former home, white oak hardwoods were a priority, and the investment of them added so much beauty and value to the everyday.

As we make improvements to our current home (where the existing carpet had been freshly installed), I have come to realize that while comfortable and functional, carpet limits a room.

Wall to wall carpet may absorb sound and provides softness underfoot, yet it instantly dates a space. That is tricky when you’re seeking a timeless look.

A Lightened Up Look for Old World Style
The absence of baseboard molding and all window and door trim is another significant factor in the ageless quality of Patina Farm.

Old World style typically relies on wood and paneling. But in this property, they are lightened up with a breezy result. Even windows have a seamless look and don’t appear new.

What Inspires You About the Mix of Old & New?
I’d love to hear what inspires you most about this property.

Is it the way the owners combine their treasures in a unique mix within a magical setting?

Is it the pared down elegant simplicity?

Or is it the relationship of the indoors and outdoors?

I have learned so much watching this creative family journey, create, and share even more design harmony in Tennessee.

In fact, the last time I visited Leiper’s, I shopped at Patina Home & Garden and had the opportunity to chat with both Brooke and Steve.

Their hearts are focused on giving to the community there and sharing their passions of gardening, antiques, and homemaking.
